I've actually always considered Dawson pretty close to a statistical slam dunk. He's extremely close to not one, but two definitive milestones: 2774 hits and 438 HR. Then you throw in the 8 Gold Gloves, the MVP, and the 8 All Star appearances and there is no way that a guy like that, at least on paper alone, shouldn't be a slam dunk.

I don't have to pull for the Gators to know they are going to win. I don't feel Alabama has the offense to keep up with them. I'm sure Saban's strategy will just be to run the ball to death and try and keep the ball out of Florida's hands as much as possible.

I actually really like Olbermann's baseball stuff and read his blog all the time. However...he's just dead wrong on so many things in this post. I don't see how you can turn Alomar down. His resume: 2700+ hits lifetime .300/.371/.443 almost 500 steals 12 All Star Appearances 10 Gold Gloves 4 Silver Sluggers No, he's hurt by the fact that he was a DH for 13 seasons. Never crossed your mind when seeing him in 12 All Star Games? It certainly crossed my mind at the time. OK, Joe. I don't care what era you are from, .267/.322/..357, 88 OPS+ vs. .295/.371/.444, 116 OPS+ at the same position is a no-contest, first round knockout. But Harold Baines' ZERO batting titles and ZERO RBI titles are sufficient from mostly the same position? No, he's not in because he had a terrific peak but no longevity. HOF voters usually want both.

I don't know how well Ole Miss travels. Traditionally the SEC East team goes to the Outback, so that's why I'm assuming it for UT. There's one report speculating that a swap might be possible. I've read that too, but I don't think they have to worry about us playing there back-to-back and not drawing a crowd because of it. It'll be played in Jerry World this year, so a new venue and a new city (Arlington) makes a big difference. That said, I wouldn't mind playing in the Outback. I'm tired of beating up on Big 12 teams. Five of our last six bowl games have been against Big 12 teams and we've won all those games. It'd be a nice change of pace to play an ACC team, and I was really hoping for Cap One so we could play the Big 10.
