  1. Nice knowing you Matt Murton. Otherwise, it's not that bad of a lineup, but I'd rather see Walker hitting 2nd and Hairston batting 7th with Barrett 6th.
  2. Big series. Philly is right ahead of us in the WC race. Padilla is very hittable this year. Win, cobs.
  3. I think their playoff chances were gone when he first announced it before the season began
  4. Vance owns and so does jon
  5. I don't really understand this. He's hitting .224 in Iowa. Why not just keep him down there for awhile and let him work out his problems? Judging from the numbers, it looks like he hasn't improved much from when we sent him down. I have a hard time believing he'll be any better than he was before he was demoted.
  6. FWIW the "reject" Borowski they signed when the Cubs released him since then has pitched better than anyone in the Cubs bullpen except possibly Dempster. Borowski has not given up a run yet in 10 appearances. The walls will probably come crashing in on him soon, but at this point it looks like the Cubs should have released Remlinger instead of Borowski. Borowski's velocity wasn't where it needed to be and he was leaving the ball up in the zone. He was getting hammered. DFA'ing him was the right thing to do. It's nice to see him doing well in TB, but I'm not sure he would be real successful pitching in any meaningful games. But the thing is... how come whatever he found in Tampa almost immediately after he got there, he couldn't find here? I'd say it's probably because there is a lot less pressure on him in TB. Some will disagree on this, but he was just getting hammered and people were fed up with it. I'd say part of the blame goes on Dusty IMO, he used him in some tough situations (like with the bases loaded against Jeter in NY) when he should have eased him in more. I really don't expect him to keep pitching this well, anyways.

  8. Link First the Mariners dump him, now Minnesota. I doubt anyone else signs him this year.
  9. So, you lost 3 of 4 to the D'Backs, eh? Way to go morons. Win, idiots.
  10. What did he say about the trade? If Lawton isn't there, then he better be batting 2nd behind Walker.
  11. Uh....Dusty? What the #@$ else are you going to do with him? I'm hoping Dusty wants to lead him off and is just making sure that's where Lawton wants to be. My fear is that he wants to bat him 5th or something, to completely ruin the value of his impressive OBP. I don't see how he can't figure out that the best place to put him is leadoff.
  12. Why would the Braves want to do that trade? Well, looking at the numbers, Soriano has been a more productive second baseman, although Giles has quite a lead over him in OBP. Mench has been very productive at a VERY cheap price and Johnson/Langerhans haven't been that good in LF for Atlanta.
  13. don't want to toot my own horn....ok, I do want to toot my own horn a little bit. wish you could have made it happen back on June 27 when I suggested it, Jim. Heh, way to go. I'm still impressed Hendry didn't have to give up a reliever with decent upside like Wellemeyer or anyone like that for Lawton. Just an average backup OF that we really didn't need. Nice job JH
  14. Agreed. Around the deadline, Griffey wasn't in the Reds lineup and Rotoworld had said that the Cubs were interested. I wonder if JH would still be interested in getting him and moving Lawton to maybe LF.
  15. Haha, so you've determined Murton isn't good and is a one-tool player after 32 major league at bats? Is it the .469 BA, .526 OBP or .594 SLG you don't like about him?
  16. I'd go with: 1. Lawton - CF 2. Nomar - SS 3. Lee - 1B 4. Ramirez - 3B 5. Burnitz - RF 6. Walker - 2B 7. Barrett - C 8. Murton - LF
  17. Thanks for the post. After reading that, it makes me think we could see some big deals in August, even though we normally don't.
  18. .380 OBP is above mediocre. Lawton gets on base (he even had a year with over .400 OBP), that will help a little. He's not great by any means, but may be the first legitimate leadoff hitter we have had since Lofton. Hairston was not a true leadoff hitter. So, he does change the dynamic a little bit. He doesn't put us over the top alone like a Manny or anything, but it's a good move for the team. Lawton is the Cubs best lead-off hitter since Lofton. Granted, he alone doesn't put the Cubs into the playoffs, but when you shore up the bullpen with Williamson and Wood, swap Neifi for Nomar and add a legitimate lead-off hitter, then maybe.... I still don't really understand why people think Wood is going to be a boost to this team. He's injury prone and will have to pitch with less rest out of the 'pen, not to mention he gets hit hard in his first inning of work. I just don't think he's going to help us out a whole lot.
  19. I gotta agree, he's struggling in Iowa and hasn't shown signs of improvement since being sent there. There's no reason to bring him up right now.
  20. Griffey is a guy who would make it through waivers, because of his large contract. I sure would love to see the Cubs get him, however, I think the Cubs are done with deals for the season.
  21. I'd like to see this lineup, when Nomar returns: CF - Lawton 2B - Walker 1B - Lee 3B - Ramirez RF - Burnitz SS - Nomar C - Barrett LF - Murton
  22. I don't think any deals can be announced this late after the deadline.
  23. I also thought it was odd that they'd give him a routine day off on a day when there's a pitcher on the mound that he's hit so well in his career. Guess it was nothing, though.
