  1. The A's are becoming my favorite non-Cubs team to watch. I love the moneyball philosophy. They've been an amazing team over the last 2 months.
  2. It's a possibility, but don't get your hopes up.
  3. When you say "this way" what do you mean? The way they have been playing all season has been up and down. Right now they are down. What makes some people think that they will never go up again? And what makes some people convinced that only the Astros can perform poorly at one point in the season and then turn it around? I look at the Astros and say if they can do it, so can the Cubs. Why do some people look at the Astros and say, "See the Astros are better than the Cubs and will never come back to earth"? Its pessimism, pure and simple. Is that wrong? No. Should people not be allowed to be pessimistic? Of course, they should be allowed to be what ever way they want. All I'm saying is, let's call black, black and white, white. Its not optimistic to say that the Cubs are playing crappy right now, but the season isn't over yet since they have already shown the ability to follow up a losing streak with an equally good winning streak and have just added Lawton and Nomar to their line-up and Williamson and Wood to their pen. It is reasonable to think that those four additions to the team could cause different results over time. Thus, lets sit back and see what happens, and, right now, they are playing like crap. However, by definition, it is pessimistic to say that the season is over. No, they've been playing around .500 ball all year long. Even when they were playing well, they'd get to around 6 games over .500 and then go on a losing streak and fall back to the .500 mark. I'm not being pessimistic...I'm just being realistic. They just don't play consistently enough to make the playoffs. They'll look really good for a stretch of games, kinda like how we were playing well after the ASB ended, going 9-4 against PIT, CIN, STL, SF, and then look terrible, like when we lost 3 of 4 to Arizona and now we've lost the first 2 to NY. I just don't see this team making the playoffs and I don't see what makes people believe it is a playoff team. Thats what I said. They have been playing around .500 all year. They go up 5 games and then down 5 games. When you said they have been playing this way all year, what did you mean by "this way"? Did you mean how they played today? The last 4 or 5 games? What... I meant how up and down they have been all season long.

  5. I think anybody that believes the Cubs are going to make the playoffs is gonna be dissapointed by the end of the season. It's not just one game or one week. They've been playing this way all season.
  6. There's obviously a lot of potential in him. He's got a lot of power. Just needs to develop some patience at the plate and he'll become a dangerous hitter, IMO.
  7. Apparently, the Score reported that Hairston's MRI shows he has a torn tendon in his elbow.
  8. Well, it'll be nice to have those guys back, but I don't see it helping much. Let's just try not to embarrass ourselves too much.
  9. I don't look at it as catching up with any team. I look at it as playing some good baseball and things will take care of themselves. Now I admit they are not playing well but once Wood, Nomar and CPatt are back it should get interesting. Well, I don't even see them playing better anyways. We're counting on some of these guys helping us when they come back, but there isn't much to make me think that Wood is going to help us much in the 'pen, considering he struggles in the 1st inning. CPatt is hitting .219 in Iowa, so has he really improved since he was sent down? And it sounds like Neifi is still going to play when Nomar comes back, so the SS position might not be looking so good for us after all.
  10. I'm usually pretty optimistic, but in IMO, this team just won't catch Houston. We'll likely fall 6 games behind them today and I don't see us making up that kind of ground. This team is just too inconsistent...they can look real good for a stretch of games and then fall flat on their face. Seriously, it seems like we keep getting 2 or 3 games above .500 and then lose 2 or 3 in a row and fall right back down to that mark. MAYBE things will turn around with the return of Nomar, Williamson and Wood tomorrow but, I don't see Wood doing much for us out of the pen, Baker has said he wants to play Neifi even with Nomar back, and Williamson isn't going to be at 100%. Hopefully they prove me wrong, but I doubt it.
  11. Dunn is a beast
  12. He's hitting .342 with RISP, so I don't see your point there. Seriously, he made a bad mistake, but you're overreacting. Overreacting? I've been saying this for almost two years. Yeah, he has a .342 avg. with RISP. I'd like a break down on that, because he's 1 for his last 4, I believe (the one being the hit against AZ). Were his hits when the game was on the line or to bring the game closer? All I know is from here on out, watch his at-bats with RISP. And see how many times he gets himself down in the count when it's the pitcher who should have the pressure on him. I'm not one who goes off on guys unnecessarily after a loss, we all know it's too many on here for that, but I've been consistent in my dislike for Barrett and his $3 million/year contract. Maybe he gets down in the count once in awhile, but I still don't see how that really matters, because he still has a .342 BA and a .391 OBP with RISP. Perhaps he looks bad with RISP sometimes, including tonight, but that doesn't change the fact that overall he succeeds in that situation.

  14. Today's win was way too close. Win by more tomorrow.
  15. Luis flies out to end the inning. To DEEP left, according to Yahoo.
  16. Hahaha Dempster had as little command as possible right there and still found a way to close it out. they need to stop making me so nervous
  17. I can be happy with the runs and hate Neifi at the same time
  18. Actually there is some history between ARam and Urbina, Bob. He faced him in the 2003 NLCS. Guess they haven't faced each other in regular season play though.
  19. Alright Matt...got the first hit out of the way
