    every team has more than one of these types of games throughout the season. it just happens. hopefully they come out swinging tomorrow when maddux is pitching.

    never known any addicts, huh? it has nothing to do with that. i can understand to a point on where he's coming from, though...when i get my tax return back, buying some crack isn't the first thing that comes to my mind when i think about how i'm going to spend it. even from an athelete's perspective, you'd think they would know better than to use HARD drugs like that before OR after their career is finished. i hope he finds help and is able to kick the addiction.

    ken griffey jr. broke his wrist crashing into a wall back in '95 and he's fine...when he's not pulling his hamstring or messing up his knees. his swing is fine. i believe that lee will be a little cold when he comes back from the DL, but i would be surprised to see any lingering wrist problems for the remainder of his career.

    like another poster said, no team in their right mind would do a trade like this so early in the season. the cubs will use a minor leaguer and use the bench to fill lee's role and see what happens. i'm giving this entire situation about a month before i start worrying. does it suck? yeah, but i'm not going to get all up in arms about it until i see how the entire cubs team handles the situation. now more than ever does aramis ramirez need to step up and take a leadership role for this team. be "the man," so to speak in derrek's absense. he has the offensive skills, that's for sure, and that's what most of us are concerned about. have a 3-4-5 of walker, ramirez and barrett and the cubs should be alright until lee gets back. barring any goofy setbacks like falling out of a bunkbed or getting his hand caught in a toilet, wood should be back in 2-3 weeks and prior not too long after that. the next few weeks should be an good indication on if and how the cubs will respond to this situation. and with that i say GO CUBS.

    the score has been wrong on many occassions. this is the same radio station that said pudge rodriguez was signing a deal with the cubs during the '03 offseason. i feel like i could get a better sports news update from mancow's morning madhouse with al roker jr.

    i was at this game back in '01 and it had the craziest ending i've ever seen, either on tv or in person. i uploaded the espn baseball tonight highlights over at youtube.com so y'all can check it out. enjoy. anyone else remember this game?

    i believe you're talking about "c'mon ride the train" by the quad-city dj's? the song was popular back in '96, i believe. they also play "back in love again" by ltd. a personal favorite of mine, indeed.

    billy martin with the 1980 oakland a's. he pretty much destroyed all 5 starters' careers. they led the majors with 94 complete games (93 were by the starting 5).

    i'm surprised keith hernandez isn't on this list. during the time MLB kept a stat for game-winning RBI, he was the leader in that category. granted, i don't know what crazy math equation the guys at BP used to make their "best clutch hitter ever" statistic, but i would think that hernandez would be on that list somewhere because of the GW RBI stat used way back when.

    for real, though...what a waste of talent. 100 wins by age 25 and by age 41 you're doing a 7 1/2 month prison term for violating your parole.

    sounds like an idiot needed to entertain his/herself by throwing junk on the field. as if the baseball game isn't entertaining enough... people throwing beer cups in the outfield after a bad call (wrigley field bleachers, i'm looking in your direction) is stupid. people throwing ANYTHING on the field that has nothing to do with tradition (throwing the opposing team's home run balls back) is stupid. trying to hit a player with a foriegn object or throwing something in the vicinity of the player is stupid. period. this isn't professional wrestling. a sign or the "boo-urns" chant gets the job done.

    fear isn't stopping scouts from basketball and football teams from going into the inner cities and watching kids play. good article, but i'm not feeling that quote too much. i'm surprised by the cost of playing baseball...i was in a little league team in '94 and it didn't cost THAT much. maybe $250-$300 at the most. all we had to do was show up for practice with a bat, glove, cleats and some flexible clothing. the jerseys and gameday clothing were part of the fee you paid at the begining of the season. how much is it to play baseball on a high school or college team? i'm guessing it'll be in the $1000-$2000 range?

    while reading the verse, i had the instrumental of "ain't no half steppin'" by big daddy kane in my head. then i imagined kane rappin' the verses that professahesse wrote and it sounded glorious.

    i agree. part of me is saying "it's march 6th. don't worry about this..." but why are they being so careful with him if he's only had a "really bad virus" during the off-season? something doesn't add up.

    on the subject of celebrity cub fans, william peterson won't even step foot into u.s. cellular field. he was on the dan patrick show about a year ago and dan was needling him about going to the cell to watch the sox. mr. CSI said that he has "no desire" to watch the sox or go to their ballpark. i dig him.
