  1. He will not opt out he can't a better contract than he has now.
  2. The yankees are only paying 15 a year of his 25 mill the other ten is paid by Texas.
  3. Abreu is under contract next year he will get 15 mill the club has option for 2008 of 16 mill. So the only way you can get him is trade for him.
  4. It's not that I'm adamantly opposed to Carlos Lee. I just disagree strongly with people who insinaute he's a no brainer. My baseball related attention span has shrunk a lot this year, so I'm not sure what is available. But I wouldn't have a problem trading assets to fill a corner OF spot. While it's nice to only spend cash, and keep players, when signing a free agent, you have to look at the other costs. Are you trading for a guy with only a couple years left on a deal who won't kill you financially down the road? Are you trading for a guy from a team that would be willing to take back some garbage like Rusch or Neifi that is already killing you? There's a lot more to look at than just, he's the biggest name corner OF free agent, let's get him. I just look at CLee as a good option then you can use the players you would trade to fill left to fill some other hole and there plenty of holes to fill.
  5. It's not a matter of whether the trib can afford it. It's a matter of whether or not the Cubs can field a good enough team with that big of a chunk given to somebody who isn't all that special. The White Sox didn't win much with a very cheap Carlos Lee. The Brewers haven't won anything despite having an affordable Lee and possibly more talent than the Cubs have had. Hendry has not shown any ability to efficiently manage his funds, which tells me he wouldn't be able to fill out the roster properly if he spends $12m on Lee. If Jim dedicated 5 or 6 roster spots to young guys who make nothing but can give you the same thing that Neifi, Rusch and others give you (if not more), then overpaying for a solid but far from spectaculiar Carlos Lee may not be a bad idea. But I don't see that happening. What are the options besides CLee for left that cost you nothing in the way of players. I am not saying he is a great option but may the best available. I do not believe 10 mill is to much the five years is a little bit long though.
  6. From the article. I believe a saw it in the Milwaukee Journal/Sentinel not too long ago. Even at 10 -11 million a year, that is a bit high for a guy with a career .284 BA, Sub .340 OBP, and a career OPS of .831. He is not an elite player. He is consistently good, but not a great player. I am not saying I wouldn't want the Cubs to get him. But we wouldn't even pay Moises 9 million a year and he put up comparable numbers to CLee. I would love to have him for about 8 million or so for 3 years. I would not let a couple million a year stop me from signing C Lee. The Trib has the money that should not be a big issue in this. Who else can you get to play left that is a s good an option and costs you nothing in the way of trading other players?

  8. These tickets are gone. Sold to mul21 enjoy the game.
  9. I have four tickets for the 4/9 Cardinals game. I had a last minute thing come up and can't make it. These are bleacher seats print at home tickets. I am located in Goshen Indiana. If your intersted pm me and we will see if we can work something out. Willing to let them go at face value $185.
  10. How good do Ruth and Aaron look now. They should have own wing in the hall if this what guys have to do hit as many homeruns as they did.
  11. Truthiness
  12. Sic bleacher tickets to the American doll game my daughter gonna be happy.
  13. Yep, that's exactly it. I'm guessing you have very little idea as to what actually happened and Steve's role in the entire situation. Well reguardless of what really happened, that is what people outside of Iowa think of him. Well I don't know all the details with the Pierce stiuation. But many people around Hawkeye basketball don't think much of Alford it seems. But I do know he had somthing to do with 38 and 55 Big Ten record coming into this year.
  14. Coming into this year Alford was 38 and 55 in the Big Ten. He has a good year but his overall work has been disapointing. I hope IU stays away besides his bad record he has supported players like Pierre Pierce. He preachs he is a christian and he is just a hypocrite.
  15. Forget Cuban if thats the case.
  16. Some interesting things form Garwilly's Forbes link: Five million in revenue for a sign! So according to Forbes the Cubs made 11.4 million This compares the number of wins per player payroll relative to the rest of the MLB. Postseason wins count twice as much as regular season wins. So 100 would be average so 77 not good but better than the Yankees 52. These are 2004 numbers.
  17. I will look but there is stack of about 100 tapes at my parents house it will take a while chances are it got lost or recorded over just like every thing else I ever wanted to keep.
  18. Does anyone remember in I believe it was 1987 when Hayy Caray had a stroke and WGN had celeberties fill in for him. Bill Murray announced one the games at Wrigley. He had Stone laughing so hard at times he could'nt even announce the game. If I remember right Stone did the play by play and the celeb took his spot. I use to have this game on tape I might still have it need to go to my parents house search through there stack of old vhs tapes. Does anyone else remember this. It was three hours of great stand up.
  19. Huff may not be happy in Tampa but he would be even unhappier with the Cubs in a platoon role. He makes 7.5 mill how many players making that are in a platoon situation. If the Cubs would get him he would be in left every day. So unless you don't want to see Murton I wouldn't want to see Huff.
  20. So do you think U of I will finish worse then second ever again? Or so you believe that from now until the end of time the finish first or second in the Big Ten?
  21. Clark Kellog: Wish I could get disrespected like that.
  22. Didn't he recently lose a son to drug overdose. I am not excusing his actions but there nothing more tramatic than losing a child I feel sorry for him.
  23. Did Stone talk about Bedard?
  24. Has anyone heard what Steve Stone has had to say about this possible trade. I caught just the end of his segment on Murphs show and they were talking about it but didn't really catch any of Stone's opinion of the possibly dealing Prior.
  25. Heard Levine this morning say he thought there was a 50 50 chance still that Miggy would end up a Cub. He also talked about Guzman pitching well in the fall league and thought he would compete for a starters spot this spring.
