  1. Q coached playoff teams have pretty much the same track record as San Jose, so be careful what you say.
  2. U mean Grand Rapids Griffens....Wings will be missing Zetterburg, Franzen, Fillpula, Cleary, Williams and Kronvall.
  3. I think most fans of college FB realize that stats usually have little to do with who wins the Heisman. It is clearly a function of media driven hype...so let it go.
  4. Nihilism-the belief that life is just a series of Jason Kendall abs. Possibly the funniest thing I have read this year
  5. A couple of years ago I heard some discussion about Kentucky being a school they may target. Just throwing it out there, dont think it would happen.
  6. Cleary is now out for the Wings. That is 3 of the top 6 forwards, a top defensemen and Jason Williams who plays the point on the PP. The salary cap and injuries are really starting to take their toll.
  7. The news here said he would not coach the Sugar Bowl, i'm not a fan of that but goes along with a hire in this time of the month. Yeah, I'd say ND was pretty insistent that whoever they hire come aboard immediately. It's unfortunate for Cincy, to say the least, but it's an absolute necessity. You simply can't go 6 weeks in December and January without a coach and hope to retain any of your recruits. He needs to spend that time getting his staff together and then visiting as many of those wavering recruits (whether currently committed or not) as he possibly can. Have both Clausen and Tate hired agents, I guess I am asking are they gone for sure or could Kelly still talk them into staying?
  8. Honestly it is probably the best ND could do.
  9. So is ND persuing Edsell to drive down the cost of Kelly or is this legit? I think Edsell would be a solid hire, not sure that is what the ND faithful are looking for though.
  10. I think right now they are pretty good, but the salary cap is going to bite them hard in the next several years. Also, I wouldnt put that much stock in Melrose.
  11. does this thread just keep changing names and resurfacing? seems like I have read all of this before
  12. W/E. All I know this constant complaining and whinning about the lack of a playoff system is beyong annoying. Until the viewership drops, and the BCS/NCAA, etc, etc,etc begins to lose money, then the playoff system will never be given anything more then a token topic to talk about it. And I am fine with it. So all this debate is pretty much moot. OK...just scrap the whole thing then. Go back to what they did before the BCS. Honestly, I think that would be better than what they do now. The NCAA should not endorse a system that gives someone a "National Title" and then not have in place a system that is equal and fair to everyone. The only equal and fair solution would be a playoff.
  13. My guess is Red Flash would be singing a different tune if Alabama lost to Tennessee and had to watch a Cincinnati/Texas title game.
  14. Could be lingering effects of that nasty concussion he had, or could also be that he didn't handle the ravenous dimensions of Safeco well. Oh yeah, he had that wicked collision with Beltran. I forgot about that. I remember you could almost hear the thud when they played it on sports center. How would you know if you could almost hear the thud?
  15. If I was a fan of either school I would want to play Florida first and then any other BCS conference school next. They winner of a TCU/Boise St game will not get any great respect for their accomplishment
  16. http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news?slug=rivals-342192&prov=rivals&type=lgns&print=1 did you read any of the rest of the article? It was vindictive of him to say this but the interviewer basically brought it up. Also, there is a large amount of truth to what he said.
  17. That first PI call directly led to three points. But it got Nebraska out of having Texas downing the pooch punt inside the 5 also.
  18. I dont think the refs screwed Nebraska...the only real bad call was the first PI. They also had the kickoff that was downed at the one that was a bad call that went Nebraska's way.
  19. If Texas losses tonight I would be willing to bet a large sum of money it happens anyway.
  20. I could vote for a player who was predominately a DH during his career. He would need to have better overall numbers then Martinez though
  21. Does the MAC play any games on Saturdays?
  22. the streak, playing for his dad, full career with one team, plus 3000+ hits is what got him in I think he was considered one of the best players ever when he was playing. Which is probably why Tim may be thinking he was overrated.
  23. I think he has a great perception among the media, therefore he is probably one of the most beloved players of all-time. I agree he was overrated as an actual player. I also think that he had a reputation of being selfless, yet he is widely known for a personal record that has little to do with winning a team game. I am not questioning Ripken as a HOFer. I think he is a great example of how the media can really help or hurt a players HOF credentials though. Wasnt Ripken almost a unanamous pick? Ripken was an underrated defensive SS in his prime though.
  24. No, it's criminal how little support he gets while honks like Gossage and Morris just keep bitching until people let them in despite the fact that their woefully underqualified. I agree, I think both Trammell and Larkin are HOF worthy. I just wonder if some more recent SS's offensive numbers have hindered them getting into the Hall. I think one thing that will help Larkin over Trammell is that Larkin was considered the best SS in the NL for much of his career. Trammell was never considered to be nearly as good as Ripken.
  25. I think the case for Larkin is not much stronger than the case for Trammell. Has Trammell even come close?
