  1. Not true. if LA beats Vancouver and Wings beat Coyotes then the sharks will play the Kings and the Hawks would play the Wings in round 2
  2. funny game...detroit was probably a little better in teh first and the Hawks scored. Chicago was a lot better in the 2nd and the Wings scored
  3. Satisfied yet? I had honestly forgotten the Cubs were playing, and now I wish I had never flipped over. I am glad they are not on where I live
  4. I kind of got the sense that neither team is really putting their foot on the gas...hitting has been rather soft for both teams
  5. being a midwestern team in the western conference is difficult. It isnt so much the effect of traveling for one series, it is the effect of traveling for 2 or more series. Probably the last thing the Hawks would want is to play LA then Vancouver then San Jose. No one in the East will even play a playoff series outside the eastern time zone until the SCF. I am not saying this will allow the eastern team to win, but I think teams like Chicago would prefer to at least get 1 or 2 not so dramatic travel series. This is also why being #1 seed is important(especially in the western conference), one less travel day per series.
  6. I think Wings fans would take pleasure in this, the Wings themselves probably don't care that much. I have a feeling the Wings will play some balanced minutes with Osgood in goal. I also wouldnt be surprised if Lidstrom or Rafalski are healthy scratches
  7. Evander Kane was actually named after Evander Holyfield.
  8. I think a Dusty managed team would probably have all kinds of issues with Marmol.
  9. I am concerned that Lou thinks Grabow is good against lefties
  10. I may be giving Theriot too much benefit of the doubt (actually, I definitely am), but it seemed like he might've known Cabrera was there and decided to try to get a free base. I agree with this. My guess is that is how the umpire saw it also.
  11. One of the main reasons I hope the Hawks and Wings don't meet in the playoffs is because I think it would probably be a toss up if all things were equal. Since Hawks would have home ice advantage I would think they would be favorites to win the series. To me there would be nothing more annoying then hearing a bunch of "changing of the guard" crap that would follow a Hawks victory. In reality there is no reason to believe that the Hawks will be better than the Wings next year with how both teams are positioned with contracts and current players on roster.
  12. Not sure what is more silly...the after 4 game panic or comparing the Cubs to the Phillies
  13. Really? How often does the "1" seed lose now? I think another factor that leads to early round upsets in hockey is that for a round a team may be able to get away with shortening their team. Often 4th liners and the 6th d-man get limited time in an attempt to pull off an upset. Probably will only work against team as playoffs progress though.
  14. Lets be honest, how often do you think an 8th seed would beat a 1 seed in a 7 game series in baseball? A lot of baseballs coinflippery is that they basically are 2nd round matchups already. I think there are 2 aspects of Hockey that make the playoffs very different than the regular season. 1st is they allow more physical play and the players know it. NHL will defend its officiating by claiming that there are just as many penalties in the playoffs as the regular season. I think you would be hard pressed to find 2 hockey fans who believe the game is called the same in the playoffs as the regular season, its just that the players have learned that they can press the envelope more in the playoffs so they do so. This of course will favor teams that really understand how far to push. 2nd, I think in hockey the "grit" factor is real. In the playoffs certain players are just better players when they have to play with the "sense of urgency"
  15. Damn 95% of your fans want to face the Hawks? Only 31% on this scientifically accurate online poll. One of the reasons that I never thought of was early round travel.
  16. I'm sad for his family and friends and for the fact he was so young and thus likely would have learned later what to do and not do when drinking. If I'm mad about something it's his parents and the parents that went on the trip. I would never allow my kid to go to Panama City Beach until they are out of my house and making their own decisions. My thoughts exactly. It is unbelievable parents of high school kids, even seniors, would allow, and even promote (from the looks of it), a trip to a drunkfest; amongst other things. I know I am late to this but......YES!!
  17. Nothing like only scoring 2 runs to make the bullpen look like a big problem.
  18. The Hawks are the team that I would least like to face in the first round. I think I would prefer in this order...Coyotes/Sharks/Canucks/Hawks. I think most reasonable thinking Wings fans feel this way. The meatball crowd wants the Hawks.
  19. Uh, remember that we play Detroit the last game of the season. Given how tight things are from 5-7, that game is key. If the Hawks can't win the Conference and take the 1 seed, then I have no doubt that they will lose that game to give Detroit two points and avoid them in the first round. http://zorak.best.vwh.net/nhl/ currently the Wings/Hawks are projected 1st round opponents
  20. my guess is someone will offer him a contract 3 mill+...I think that the Hawks would have a tough decision matching that. They would receive 1,2 and 3rd round picks though. That's probably more than another team will offer, I'd guess. There are a lot of good defensemen who can be had for $3M or less without losing draft picks. You never know in free agency, but that's a very, very high price to pay. Looking at the numbers, finding a way to jettison Huet (even if you have to pay $1.9M) and Sopel saves this team a ton of money. Likewise, I expect to see Madden gone as well. The only way he stays is if he takes a steep pay cut. With Madden, Huet and Sopel gone they can pretty much keep the rest of the team. IDK...Hjalmarrson has shown 1st pairing potential and is a certain 2nd pairing dman. 3-4mill plus 3 draft picks may be a good deal for a team that expects to draft late.
  21. Is that not a bloated record given the change in points system making it so much easier to get points post restructuring? probably. I will have to look. My guess is until this year they were never that close to not making 100 points though. edit: I havent looked at the OT game details but in the current streak, but they have only been below 110 twice. Those were a 108 and 109 and they both were before the lockout. The current scheduling and being in a weaker division is probably more responsible for the bloated record.
  22. I agree about the Horizon being the 2nd best conference but question the rest of this
  23. Their current streak of 100 points+ seasons is a NHL record(and they still may make it this year) I think the Hawks could easily fall from where they are this year because of salary cap issues. I wouldn't bet on it though. They will need to have young players producing in key roles in the next few years to improve.
  24. my guess is someone will offer him a contract 3 mill+...I think that the Hawks would have a tough decision matching that. They would receive 1,2 and 3rd round picks though. Really? That much? 1, 2 and a 3? Are all of those from the signing team or are some compensatory from the league? I would have no problem if another team signed him to such a deal and they got that sort of compensation. I think its the signing team. Its a sliding scale. If he gets more than 4 million the Hawks would get even more picks
