the red wings are the best team in the west only if you've been living in a cave for a year. jimmy howard is average at best. their top defense pairing is a combined 76 years old and neither guy is as good as he once was. their third D pairing is pretty weak, cleary and bertizzi on a second line isn't going to scare anyone and their third and fourth lines are pretty meh. they're a good team but the sharks, wings and canucks are more talented IMO. (as well as the pens and caps) Lidstrom is still one of the top 5 dmen in the league, Rafalski has been much better since the Olympics. Lilja missed over a year and is still getting better, Ericsson has tailed off quite a bit since his rookie season but is still a quality puck mover...I guess I am saying that the Wings 3rd pairing is far from weak. Cleary has been playing mostly on the 3rd line, which has been pretty good so far in the playoffs. Howard is not great but honestly how much worse is he than any of the remaining goalies? There 3rd and 4th lines have not scored a lot, but they are very defensive responsible and get a lot of ice time which will be good for the team as the playoffs move along. Can't argue with you about Bertuzzi.
