  1. The surprising thing about this is that NBC/Versus are trying to create a sports network that can compete with ABC/ESPN. You would think if they were that committed they would make sure that the big Wimbledon matches were televised live.
  2. as a Red Wing fan living in Blackhawk territory I have used this video numerous times for taunting purposes. I had never noticed that the linesman appears to come out of nowhere. I am sure if there was a wider shot it would be easily explained.
  3. I think the Sharks are taking a good risk here. Havlat if healthy will do a lot to put the Sharks over the top. It was obviously not working for them with their current team so something had to be done. Of course I still think the biggest issue is Joe Thorton. He has figured out how to win playoff hockey against Detroit but then has folded like a tent in the WC finals two years in a row. Heatley is the type of player I just don't like(similar to Kane but Kane is a much better player). He has value but it is one dimensional. If he is not scoring he is not doing anything else to help the team win.
  4. I have always believed that if you intend of firing someone, do it now. There is no reason to keep a lame duck in place
  5. by contrast the Wings just signed a possible top 4 dman(Ian White) for 2.75M for 2 years. Ericsson is not the only dman who has gotten way overpaid in the last couple of days, but the rest of the guys who have been overpaid will probably not be a healthy scratch 10+ times this season. 2days later and I am still just perplexed by the overpayment for Ericsson
  6. I am not sure the Hawks are better right now, but it would appear that they will have a lot of flexibility come trade deadline time. This is the time that a team can go out and get a good deal if they have cap space. The Hawks also have some good young chips to offer in a trade.
  7. I have the feeling the Wings will miss the playoffs for the first time in forever next year. I think the Wings should have let Ericsson test the open market and then resigned him for 2million
  8. There is a lot of available money from some big name teams with a shortage of good UFAs to get that money. Should be an interesting day
  9. yes he was, in Vancouver if I remember correctly. I think it was dropped pending civil action.
  10. I think what really is frustrating about Kopecky is how coaches have used him(Babcock and Q both). For some reason he will show flashes of offensive potential so they both tried to move him up to the 2nd/3rd lines, where he does not belong. If he would just be played on the 4th line he would be a positive player.
  11. I think one more year at $5.6M. God Tallon is/was an idiot. Will they be able to rent him out again like they did last year and save on the cap hit? yes and I think both Huet and Campbells contracts had more to do with a certain ex Cub PR man then they did Tallon, or at least that is what is widely speculated among a lot of hockey fans. Tallon trading for the Campbell contract has to make one wonder.
  12. don't confuse making an occasional diving catch for being good defensively. I like Johnson but could go either way on him coming back as a back up. I think he is the type of player that the wrong manager would way over use and always scares me.
  13. Are the Hawks clearing space to make a run at Richards?
  14. they need another guy who should be in the AHL? ben eager has more than enough ability to play in the nhl. Definitely. I'm not saying I want him back, but a guy like him whose motor never stops, will throw down if need be, and can score a little. Eager had 7 goals and 16 points last year and was a +9. Sure that was a +9 on a very good team, but still. managed to be a healthy scratch for a lot of the playoffs. Honestly he is good enough to be in the NHL, but often is out of position because he is skating around the ice trying to hit someone needlessly. To me he is basically a poor mans Raffi Torres. The worst thing about these types of players is the fans get turned on by the needless hits but often overlook the cost. I think the Hawks need an Andrew Ladd or John Madden type way more then a Ben Eager type. Not only can guys like that score some, they can play on the PK. If I was a Hawks fan I would be frustrated with how much time Toews and Hossa need to play on the PK. Get me some 3/4th liners who could do that would be much more valuable then the "motor that never stops"
  15. they need another guy who should be in the AHL?
  16. Boston fans are not just the 35,000 who showed up to Fenway the day you were there. Their numbers have grown exponentially the past decade, and with the Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics, and now potentially the Bruins, they have grown into the most insufferable bunch of crap talking douchebags. I was not only at Fenway for a couple of games, but I was all over the city for several days before the series started. Maybe I just got lucky with my experience in the city for a week. I don't care about their fans. The idea of the names "Burrows" and "Sedin" going on the cup next to Toews and Ben Eager just ain't right. Ben Eager? The player who would rather make a meaningless hit then be in good position because he feels like some teammate was looked at funny? Of all the Hawks players you could of picked you lost me with that one. At least the Sedins and Burrows are good hockey players.
  17. Most SCChampions survive some early round scares. Nashville played the Hawks better then anyone last year and should have at least had that series to game 7. I think that is part of what makes playoff hockey so good. I know I am probably alone here but I am cheering for Vancouver. Mainly because they are the WC team but I also have found that I cannot stand Boston teams in the same way I cannot tolerate NY teams. The Canucks are a hard team to cheer for though.
  18. I like the 'if' since no one knows if one actually exists. I used to work at a place where everyone in my dept took an extra 5-10 minute lunch. We were mostly subtle about it and no one seemed to notice or care. Eventually we got this young kid who started taking 15-30 mins extra time at lunch and pretty much flaunted it. Well we can probably guess how that ended. I am under no delusions that there are a large amount of clean OSU players, but probably most of them understood that they should keep up a certain amount of appearances. If I was one of them I would probably be unhappy with Pryor even though I was not innocent. I mean how ignorant is it to get paid in checks. I think this is also the type of thing that separates most "dirty" players from other schools, the wisdom to not overdo it. Pryor like Bush before took it too far.
  19. How has Ned Colleti merited any kind of credibility as a good GM?
  20. I think at this point OSU would be wise to go ahead and impose some penalties on themselves.
  21. This I wish their was some innocent party that could sue Bush, however I am not sure who that would really be.
  22. On the second point, you're exactly right. I stand corrected. But Lopez? On the first point, this is why I say that you stand the catcher up, put up four fingers and walk him. He was itching for anything he could put his bat on and he found something a little too close. He made a great play, but that's why you intentionally walk Albert Pujols. I am not that great at looking up stats and all, but I am all but sure that walking Pujols to lead off the 10th is a bad percentage play. The problem is that for 2 days in a row the Cubs did not have major league quality pitchers pitching.
  23. I think if you would read your post you would get your answer. No one gives a rip about North Carolina and their issues, but OSU, USC and the SEC conference get a lot of attention. Why? Because they are really successful. it couldn't possibly be the sustained pattern of abuse in the SEC, USC, and OSU. I am not saying anyone is innocent. Its just that no one is going to care if Conference USA and their schools were doing practices similar to the SEC. Just like almost no one cares about North Carolina's issues while OSU and USC were/are top stories.
  24. I think if you would read your post you would get your answer. No one gives a rip about North Carolina and their issues, but OSU, USC and the SEC conference get a lot of attention. Why? Because they are really successful.
  25. I think looking at the poor trade value or just being unable to trade some of them speaks volumes of Jim Hendry's tenure. It is one thing to have some things not work or go wrong. But to completely paint this team into the depressing corner that we are in is sad.
