  1. I think 300 wins/3000 Ks probably is going to get you in no matter what. Not agreeing just saying. Without looking my guess is Don Sutton's career does not look very Hall of Famish except for 300 wins
  2. Why isn't Bollig still in the press box? Regin and Morin should be playing instead of Bollig and Nordstrom. But I will trust Q. Yesterday's game pissed me off, but the Hawks took the Wild's best punch and if not for a couple of bad bounces the Hawks could have been up 2-0 after two. Keith on the powerplay in period one nearly missed. I still think the Hawks close it out in 5. Even if they lose Friday I wont get too worried. Goes both ways...Wild could have easily had a penalty shot in the first that was not even called a penalty. I think it will probably be 5 or 6, depends on Fridays outcome
  3. I think the Wild are better than you are giving them credit for. They really outplayed Colorado for a lot of their first series and were very strong down the stretch. In the end the Hawks have too much talent for them, but if the breaks go the wrong way for the Hawks this series could be lost. On a side note, I understand getting Brookbank a game and it is not like Leddy is tearing it up. But how is Versteeg still getting ice time?
  4. I think a lot of Steve Stone's genius was that when he first started he was way ahead of the curve for your ordinary color man, and he worked with Harry Caray. I don't mean this as a criticism of Harry, but making insightful observations, that are somewhat sane, while working with Harry will make you look like a genius of some sort. He is still miles ahead of Hawk with actual baseball insight, but the quality of color men has improved a lot in 30 yrs. Shows you how sad it was to be my age watching baseball.
  5. I like the idea of the pitcher batting 8th. It probably makes little difference in the long run, but IIRC there are statistics that show it can be to a team's benefit. Cardinals did it for a full season not that long ago. Or it seemed like a full season, not sure if there was any great work done to show if it had benefits or not.
  6. Yeah he's a classic stay-at-home defenseman. Many have great careers doing it but will never win awards because they don't score. Scott Stevens and Scott Neidermeyer have both won the Conn Smythe award in the last 15 yrs or so. I don't think neither was a classic stay at home dman, but they were not offensive minded dmen either. I think both were considered the best dmen on their teams though, not the case with Hjalmarsson
  7. If Hjalmarsson would get a few more points he would be my Hawks MVP so far. His play in the defensive zone has been great, especially on the PK. I think the Blues forecheck was somewhat contained by his play
  8. Put me down as someone who thinks he is a great player. He gets screwed when it comes to selke conversation, probably because he doesn't take many face-offs. Been a consistent scorer on some very good teams the last 5 yrs. I think some of the things that may make him underrated are: 1. Began career on Ottawa, good team playoff flopper. 2. Prime years were played in Atlanta. 3. late prime years he has been very good but on teams that had Crosby, Malkin, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Toews, and Kane. Not that he is not at their level or close, he just has never had the star appeal that those 6 have. He also has a reputation as being a good player whose teams won cups after he left. And there are a handful of fanbases that stupidly boo him aggressively based on old grudges. The only place that happened was Pittsburgh and I would suggest that Pittsburgh would not have won the Cup the next year if Hossa wasn't playing hurt for the Wings. If he was closer to 100% Wings would have won that series easily. Fans booing former players for leaving for more money is stupid, but yeah. edit: I think missing 10-20 games a yr that last few probably have hurt him some also
  9. Isn't Boston/Montreal on before? Are they switching to NBCSN after that game?

  11. yeah this seems like the perfect sell very high situation
  12. Glenallen Hillish He wishes. I wishes. true....I got a little flush just thinking about Hills rooftop shot. Lake has never done that for me
  13. cant believe I overlooked that one
  14. stupid non-playoff related Hawks question. Did the Hawks use both of their compliance buy outs last off season? I remember Montador, but a friend said they bought out someone else also and I cannot think of who it would have been
  15. You feel this way because you live in the 2010's. If you lived in the 1920's you would be pining for really cool uniforms from the 1870's.
  16. I used to follow horse racing quite a bit and have been to several of the major events in my life. Now I have no idea what horses are even racing today or how any of them did in the pre-derby races.
  17. All 4 teams have several Hall of Fame caliber players in their primes. All 4 teams have made some savvy trades that have allowed them to stay under the cap. And like all teams in every major sport that have staying power, these teams keep developing players that produce at the NHL level.
  18. Canadiens, Pens, Hawks, Ducks. I was 6 of 8 in the first round. Picked Blues and Sharks. I have liked how the Canadiens have played since Price has come back. But Boston is very good. I think the other 3 series are not going to be that compelling.
  19. your optimistic quotes make me nervous
  20. I have often wondered if coaches pulled their goalie on PPs, would the numbers work out in the long run.
  21. Already have heard carping about "east coast bias" for Doughty and Vlasic not making the list, though nobody is saying Keith shouldn't have been there. I honestly think Chara should not be a finalist, unless diving is somehow considered important for the Norris
  22. 4 pages!! I thought Javy had a 4 homer game in a surprise Tuesday afternoon game. This thread really turned out to be a doom boner or some other term you youngsters use. edit: dang it, it's only Monday aaaarrrrrgggghhhh
  23. this is BS. It says were I live it is 45% Cubs 35% White Sox and some Cards. In reality it is about 50/50 Cards and Cubs. I dont know any White Sox fans
