  1. I got excited just to see College Football as a thread. Michigan St will not be good. I think they will stop shooting themselves as much and just wont be good for lack of talent.
  2. Dont get me wrong I am all for any fool who would take JJ off our hands. What the heck are the White Sox doing even considering Jones though. They are out, done, finished. They can grab some bench. They are not going to be a good team next season. Jones is not going to be an a big upgrade over the young guys they have playing the OF now. It would just be 1 stupid trade for them no matter what they gave the Cubs.
  3. Its almost like the Cubs feel obligated to explain to fans why certain players are traded. What bothers me is the smear campaign before the trade that helps lower their trade value.
  4. There are a lot worse pitchers in Major league baseball. Coming into this season I think most would have rather had him than Jason Marquis. I would be willing to bet at the end of this season it will probably be the same.
  5. This is why Dusty played him last year in September every game. Like Pierre having a consecitive game streak record should mean anything. The fact that he is so below average as a hitter and not a great defensive CF would only show how stupid several different managers are.
  6. I took him in the first round of a keeper league that we started this year. I went really young and thought I would struggle for a year or 2 then really come around. Anyway I am in 3rd overall close to the top because of Fielder ,Hill, Hardy and I picked up Bonds in a Supplemental draft for nothing.
  7. The hooker thread was Yeti's brainchild I believe. And Leon Durham is my all time favorite Cub too...:D I'm sure Snood won't mind the number of votes that mistake could get him, though. Any vote for me is a mistake on some level, so no, I wouldn't mind. Hey no trying to out self loath me. Though the numbers show my self loathing is more deserved. I knew that yeti was the creater of the hookers thread. I was hoping my enjoyment of the overall thread would help create votes for snood. If this is not the case than I would say that the hooker thread was tacky and untasteful and we should be ashamed.
  8. Reasons to vote for Snoodmonger Introduced Conquer Club Cooler name Big lead dont want to waste vote on me I am not smart enough to get a cool avatar I dont like people who like me I dont hate Barry Bonds as much as I dislike people who hate him and dont talk about other obvious users, especially ones on their favorite teams I have a lot of respect for the Cardinals(dont like but respect) I caint spell I havent got a premium membership yet. I dislike Penn St as much as Michigan, Ohio St and Notre Dame Leon Durham is my all time favorite Cub I am old enough to actually read Bill James Baseball Abstract when they first cam out I dont know how to properly italisize I love Hockey and am a Red Wing fan I am a MSU fan Dont like the NFL or NBA I am an evangelical Christian who would never have a fish on his car or vote Republican just because I am an evangelical Christian I like Bugs Bunny Would rather listen to the Stones than the Beatles(though I really think they are both great) and think Pink Floyd is the most overrated crap in Musical history I am fat(though probably not funny or sad yet but certainly overweight) Hookers cost too much was my favorite thread in a long time.
  9. Last year after Todd Walker was blamed for the bad season and traded I predicted that Barrett would be this seasons scapgoat. I cant find the thread though. My early prediction for next season is Matt Murton. I wonder what San Diego will give us for him.
  10. When is the poll going to open on which picture of Lee's Surrender at Appomattox is better?
  11. Last year about everyteam in baseball could have given the Phillies more for Abreu. Somehow he ended up on the Yankees.
  12. Notre Dame fan vs the man with the Hookers are too expensive rant. Slam Dunk in my book
  13. I had a coach growing up who insisted right foot. Then in HS the coach said you can overthink these things. Just run and hit it with whatever foot was going to have the most comfortable stride. Since my HS coach was more successful of a coach, I am going to give him the benefit of the doubt.
  14. Not to add a whole new angle to this conversation but......... Is there a difference between 5 and v. Both come before 6 or vi or vice versa.
  15. When is Renteria getting Suspended. Oh its better to cheap shot someone trying to steal than it is to stand toe to toe with someone and hit them. MLB is so full of crap its pathetic.
  16. Actually that explains that Texas was stupid for trading a guy who hit like that in the minors after only 200 ML at bats. Especially because he was only 22 and 23 those years. I know this is foreign thinking for most but young players do take some time to adjust to major league pitching. It is the last level of development. Too many think they are done once they have arrived from AAA. Im confused, as that is basically what I was saying by stating it was stupid for Texas to trade him after 200 ML at bats. Yeah I was basically agreeing. Just pointing out that not only fans but some baseball people treat young talent. An example would be the Cubs. He would probably been gone with us after 200 ML ABs with that kind of production.

  18. All I am going to say is that I like DeRossa. He is a solid player and brings a lot to the bench. More of players like this and less of the toolsey guys would make us a much better team. That being said if we are still floundering 6 games behind Milwaukee at the end of July and can get good value for him, I wouldnt mind moving him.
  19. Gonzalez and C. Young for Otsuka and Eaton I believe. Edit: So yes, quite the steal. Wow that is Cub like in its badness.
  20. Probably spelled wrong. What did San Diego give Texas for this guy. He was pretty solid last year in his first full year. This year he has an OPS over 9, looks good defesively and is 25 yrs old. Also seems to kill the Cubs. Maybe one of baseballs more underrated up and comers.
  21. What is Griffeys contract status? If he is signed past this season it would be a major mistake for the Cubs to take on his contract edit: sorry I went back and read page 1. bad mistake to take on his salary and give up a young pitcher making the minimum. Unless we are going to have a $150 million payroll
  22. Nor is anyone going to take on their large parts of their salaries. This is why they are staying.
  23. We should come up with an all-grindy team. Maybe even an all-time grindy team. Maybe Pete Rose can get into the Hall of Grind.
  24. Nope, the best thing to do is trade Jones and pay as much of his deal as you have to to get it done. My logic is as follows: 1.) Right now Jones is of very little, if any, value to this team over the long or short term 2.) The value of players is not absolute and fixed, but rather relative to the needs of the team and the other personnel in the organization, therefore teams place differing amounts of value on players. 3.) The money in Jones's contract will be paid by the Cubs organization if he is not traded, whether he plays or not, therefore his salary is incidental to the question. The question the Cubs ought to be asking is this. Can I trade Jones to a team and have them pick up any amount of his contract, and if so, is the value of having Jones on the team greater or less than the value of the money I will have saved? If the value of the money is greater than Jones value to the team, then he should be traded. Jones long-term value to the team is very low considering that we can move Soriano to right or teach Murton over the long term. His short term value is even less because of Floyd, and the fact Theriot and Fontenot have played well enough to allow DeRosa to play RF fairly often. So, if a team takes even 2M of Jones's 6M next year, then the Cubs are better off, because they've turned something that was worth less than 2M to them, and gotten something more valuable, 2M, in return. Somebody would pay Jones 2M as a fourth outfielder, particularly if they think, as they well might, a change of scenery could bring him back to his .750ish OPS form. I believe ultimately he will be traded, if only to save some small amount of cash, because his value to the Cubs organization right now is probably close to zero. I dont disagree with you. I just think that Hendry does. I really think to him he would rather keep Jones and pay his salary and gamble that he returns to last years form. As opposed to trade him and pay most of his salary and rely on Murton or someone else from the system to play right. I think the only way that Jones is moved is if someone takes most of his salary which isnt going to happen.
  25. I have come to a sad reality on Jacque Jones. He will be a Cub through next season. Noone is going to take on his salary. We would have to eat most of it to just get someone to take him, let alone give us something in return. If we just release or trade him we still have to pay his salary. The Cubs are already committed to 81 million next season. Hendry will gamble that Jones turns around and starts to perform like he did last year. To him this will be a better gamble than someone else in our system who will be paid the minimum since we wont be able to afford a Free Agent. What is really sad is that Hendry has run the team into this sandbar. It probably is a better gamble to go with Jones than his other options.
