1. That's not news. McGwire isn't saying anything. He diddn't say anything from the time he retired until the hearings, and he hasn't said anything since. He's a private guy. If that means that he lacks character, then so be it. It's a pretty harsh way to judge a guy, though. Again, I think you HATE the fact that he's not saying anything, because it means that you can't criticize him for what he has to say. So, you choose to criticize him for not saying anything at all. He can't win, and he knows it. Haters will hate him, regardless of what he says or doesn't say. Frankly, I don't think he gives two shakes what folks like you believe. No, I just don't respect people that promise things and then don't come through. But if you want to keep your blinders on, go ahead. And who says that he won't be? Just the people that don't believe in Santa Claus, the Easter bunny and that OJ is out looking for the "real" killer.

3. All you need to know about Mark McGwire and his "character" can be derived from reading the attached article. http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/columnists.nsf/berniemiklasz/story/21900CE8FE5264838625708B001C1F88?OpenDocument
4. The Dude wrote: Going into the season, analysts never said anything like, "The Cardinals can't get to playoffs unless they have Rolen everyday." But they sure said, "The Cubs are sunk without Prior or Wood for 200 innings." "The Cardinals never would have given a high priced, long-term contract to Kerry Wood - a pitcher with bad mechanics and a history of arm trouble." - Steve Stone on WSCR
5. Personally, I think Pamela Anderson should have been named as honorary manager of the All-Bust team.
6. Writer believes injuries are no excuse - a bust is a bust. http://www.fanball.com/bb/article.cfm/ID.4644
7. The glowing comments about the cookie-cutter stadiums when they opened seem comical with the benefit of hindsight. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/nl/cardinals/2005-09-20-busch-stadium_x.htm
8. I wish IDOT had this luck with their construction jobs. Ahead of schedule? On budget? Wow, what a concept. Any chance we can arrange for the Cardinals and their fans to be in the stadium when the wrecking ball hits?
9. Yes, choking away a 15 game lead in August would be the greatest choke in baseball history. To quote Flounder from Animal House "Oh boy is this Great!."
10. quote="CubfaninCA"] Wow. This suprises me. I would rather hace Hendry then either of these 2. DePo has run the Dodgers into the ground and although their minor leagues have been upgraded, I am unsure of how much credit goes to DePo for that since he has only been around for 2 drafts. DePo's trades have been highly questionable, and his FA acquistions have been overpaid and questionable. JP has been unspectacular yet solid. He did give Koskie a longer term deal then I would have wanted if I were a Toronto fan considering he already had options there. I am firmly on the Hendry bandwgn. He has made smart baseball moves, most of his trades have worked out and he has given the modern Cub fans more to hope and believe about both in the Majors and the minors in a long time. To me the biggest glaring issue with his reign is the Sisco loss. If all we are questioning is the loss of a middle reliever then I think he has done well in his years, especially considering some of the controversial moves he has had to make (Sosa). How so?? Is it his fault nearly the entire team's been hurt?? He signed two guys who would look really good in Cubbie Blue (Kent and Drew). He made a good trade to get Penny, and he didn't overpay Beltre and let Finley walk. Yes it is. When you sign guys like Drew who are always hurt and expect them to be a big part of your team, it should be no suprise when they get hurt.
Do you apply the same logic to Hendry's signing of the often injured Nomar?
11. BY PAUL SULLIVAN Published September 18, 2005 The Cubs plan to keep a close eye on Aramis Ramirez and Carlos Zambrano this winter, with trips to their native countries by trainer Mark O'Neal and strength coach Tim Buss. The Cubs apparently are worried about them reporting to spring training out of shape. Evidently, the Cubs are finally listening to the posters at NSBB. I see this as a very positive step for the organization.
12. I think you really have to live in the Chicago area to understand the true obnoxiousness that is the average Sox fan. you're probably right, and maybe my hometown is an outlier or something, but i don't think many people from chicago understand the true obnoxiousness that is the average Cardinal fan. OR MAYBE all fans are obnoxious to fans of rival teams. i read an a's website, and boy do they ever hate giants fans. I think we do. A lot of us Cubs fans from Chicago went to colleges downstate and were subjected to the "World's greatest fans." Hating obnoxious Red Birds fans is different than hating insecure, bitter Sox fans - but equally justifiable.
13. 1Wizard - Whining about an official scorer? You must have been one of those drunk Cardinals fans harrassing Nomar and Mia when they were collecting money for the hurricane victims? Very classy. Chicago Suntimes: TOUCH OF CLASS: It would have been nice to see Nomar Garciaparra succeed to the point this season that the Cubs had to bring him back next year. But with two straight years of health problems Garciaparra is probably too much of a risk to re-sign. It's unfortunate because Garciaparra and his wife, Mia Hamm, showed again Thursday why they are considered class acts. While collecting for hurricane relief with other players and wives at entrance gates before the game, Garciaparra and Hamm were subjected to having a picture taken with three St. Louis fans who were yelling, "Go Cardinals,'' the entire time and appeared to have gotten an early start at a nearby saloon. What could have been an ugly situation never got close to it because Garciaparra and Hamm handled the three alpha males with grace and sent them on their way.
14. If they continue to choke like they have been, the White Sox might not even make the playoffs as division winner or wild card.
15. Link DJ - Does Fredbird sport a mullet?
16. Who cares about the bathrooms? Are you going to NOT go to a baseball game because the area that you take a whiz doesn't have a butler in it? People don't go to baseball games to take in the asthetic (I know that's spelled wrong) beauty of the crapper. I hate it when people badmouth Wrigley by saying their bathrooms are nasty. WHO CARES! EDIT: In other words... what Vance and DJAXXFAN said. I don't think it's any more or less of an issue than cigarette butts on the sidewalk outside of Busch Stadium. I wish he would've mentioned that there are way too many mullets at Busch Stadium.
Rumor has it that in an effort to keep the new Busch Stadium clean, Cardinal management will be enforcing a "no mullet policy." This should open up plenty of room for Cardinal fans currently on the season ticket waiting list. :D
17. Sorry, I aspire to someday be as smart as you and not read Paul Sullivan. BTW, no one put a gun to your head to read or respond.
18. Is it insulting to Cubs fans for "outsiders" like Gordon, Burwell, Miklasz and Hummel to constantly bash the Cubs? No, "outsiders" are entitled to their opinions, especially when they are right - like Sullivan is and the Cards writers have been lately. Next year, the Cards move into a new stadium (with greater revenue potential), the best GM is baseball and the best team in the NL - now that's something that Cubs fans should be concerned about. But who cares what I think, what does Vaball think?
19. Couldn't agree with him more. http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/stories.nsf/cardinals/story/3E413B973B1E5CDD862570770050F3BF?OpenDocument
20. Do you also believe in Santa Claus, the Easter bunny, the tooth fairy and that Barry Bonds didn't know "the clear" was steroids?
21. I'm not a big Buck fan on national broadcasts, but he's tolerable. Last night, however, I was reminded just how terrible he is. The other guy actually seemed alright. But Buck is just awful. He's a homer, much like Santo, but unlike Santo, he tries to portray himself as some sort of all knowing god of baseball knowledge. At least Ronny (who I do not like listening to) is brutally honest with his work. You're joking, right? Brutally honest? Here's one little tidbit from Santo (from another thread): "Neifi has had a stellar, stellar season. I haven't seen anyone play a better shortstop. He'll be back next year." Hrabosky is horrible. I can hardly stand to listen to him. Buck is one of the best, easily (heck, the guy has won for Emmy's). He's smooth, unbiased, and informed, whether he's doing football, baseball, whatever.........
Too often Buck comes off like the spoiled St. Louis County Day Prep Schooler that he is. Daddy was great, he's a medicore know-it-all.
22. Haha, I was thinking the exact same thing, but I didn't want to say anything. sosa's 2001 season is probably one of the 10-15 greatest single seasons ever. sosa's 2001 season is probably one of the 10-15 greatest single seasons during the steroid era. Looking at relative numbers and eras, it's a long way from when Babe Ruth hit more homers than all the other AL teams combined.
23. quote from "vaball" Well this game came down to a Pujols dropped double play ball. Can we officially put those contentions coming from Red Bird fans that Pujols is as good a fielder as Lee to bed now :?:
24. 18K a game. If he plays 140 games, he makes $2.5 million.
25. The problem with Nomar is that he has only been healthy 2 out of the last five years.
