  1. They should have put in something that would get a lot use - like a square dance arena.
  2. oh, are they in the tournament? i seem to recall someone predicting that they would be. They won't be for long, I hope. I'm rooting for all Big Ten teams (even Michigan) so that Digger will choke on his highlighter and die a painful death. For your sake, I hope "rooting" doesn't mean betting on.
  3. Well, if you actually look actually look at his numbers, he was pretty consistent throughout his career. which is the problem, as most power hitters don't stay "consistent" into their late 30's. He didn't really drop off power-wise until his 40's His numbers didn't significantly increase late in his career like Sammy, McGwire, Bonds, etc. I think hitting 40 homers late in your career when you have done it previously is a little different than hitting 60+ homers late in your career when you pretty much averaged 40 home runs most of your career.
  4. Regulars??? Regulars??? ROFL. What is this Cheers staring Southside Ryan as Norm the Accountant, Mojo as Clever Cliff Clevan the Postman and Roast as the Handsome Bartender Sam Mayday Malone? Making your way in the world today Takes everything you've got; Taking a break from all your worries Sure would help a lot. Wouldn't you like to get away? All those night when you've got no lights, The check is in the mail; And your little angel Hung the cat up by it's tail; And your third fiance didn't show; Sometimes you want to go Where everybody knows your name, And they're always glad you came; You want to be where you can see, Our troubles are all the same; You want to be where everybody knows your name. Roll out of bed, Mr. Coffee's dead; The morning's looking bright; And your shrink ran off to Europe, And didn't even write; And your husband wants to be a girl; Be glad there's one place in the world Where everybody knows your name, And they're always glad you came; You want to go where people know, People are all the same; You want to go where everybody knows your name. It's NSBB and his name is South Side Ryan.
  5. Crankier than usual today SSR. Did the Illini lose or is it just that time of the month?
  6. Well, if you actually look actually look at his numbers, he was pretty consistent throughout his career.
  7. That was just one example of many. The greatest legitimate home run hitter of all time, Hank Aaron, never hit 50 home runs in a season but Brady Anderson did. I guess you're right, the steroid era didn't skew the stats at all. I realize it's tough to admit that the baseball you have watched most of your life has been tainted by steroids but it is what it is. And Hank Aaron took greenies, so was he really legit? Jaywalking and armed robbery are both violations of the law. Are they both equally bad? Evidently greenies don't help you hit home runs or maybe Hank Aaron would have had as many 50 home runs seasons as the great Brady Anderson. Brady Anderson had one amazing year in a career of mediocrity. Boo-hoo. and McGwire "saved baseball" by hitting 70 home runs while juiced up to look like the Incredible Hulk which caused a jealous Barry Bonds to illegally bulk up. Not to be outdone by other "heroes" of the game like ARod, Pudge, Juan Gone, Tejada, Palmeiro, Clemens, etc., etc. And...? What was lost? What was damaged? The integrity of the game. A fair evaluation of the non-juicers during that era who are guilty by association.

  11. What complete nonsense. Why? The steroid era was a joke and make a mockey of the game and it's records. Well, first of all, no it didn't. Secondly, "it's nuances and subtleties blasted away by the naked obsession with power" is what I said before, complete nonsense. What nuances and subtleties were ruined? It's romantical tripe yearning for something to return that never went away, or even worse, never existed. Well, first of all, it did. Take Brady Anderson as just one example. The graphs speak for themselves. His stats are a joke. http://simononsports.blogspot.com/2009/02/numbers-on-steroids-brady-anderson.html Brady Anderson looked like a player who was 180 pounds soaking wet. He was a runt leadoff-esque centerfielder for the Orioles who couldn't get the ball out of the ball park and then... 50 home runs? That seems a bit questionable so let's take a look at his numbers to see how much the rates mightily changed in his career. Averages Say: His prime didn't start until 28 and it ended at 36? Hmm, that seems odd. At Bats Per Home Run Says: At 27 it was 1 home run per 130 at bats and then at 28 it was 1 home run per 30 at bats. Hmm... Explaining It Away Sometimes players are just late bloomers right? Maybe he never hit the gym ever in his life before 1992? Also, 1992 was the first season he got consistent at bats and was a day to day starter, perhaps that boosted his confidence and helped him get in a home run groove? And then some years you just have career years that can't be matched. So in 96 when he hit 50 home runs, it was more fluke than having any true cause. The Verdict In Brady Anderson's first 4 years he finished with a total of 10 home runs then all of a sudden he hit 21 home runs. And to further that even more he hit Hell he only had 53 steals in those first 4 years, the same total he had in his breakout 1992 campaign. And can anyone really believe that in a 15 year career when he finished with 210 total home runs that 50 came in one season, and that was just a complete fluke? So... If it Walks Like a Duck and Quacks Like a Duck... Than It's Probably a Duck
  12. What complete nonsense. Why? The steroid era was a joke and make a mockey of the game and it's records.
  13. Was the Ronnie Woo Woo mention necessary? He is an embarassment.
  14. Hot chicks dressed only in Cubs hats.
  15. When you think of the Netherlands, isn't Randall Simon the first thing that pops into your mind?
  16. It will only confirm the ones that were on steroids and stupid enough to get caught with advance notice of the testing provided to the players. I'm sure many players who were smart enough to realize the names would be eventually leaked stopped prior to the testing. That is why union claims of only 104 out of 1,200 players doing steroids are silly.
  17. Gee, I wonder why the players were so much smaller in the 80s. greenies were an appetite suppressant Evidently the continued greenie use by players in the 1990s and 2000s didn't offset the massive amount of steroid use.
  18. Gee, I wonder why the players were so much smaller in the 80s.
  19. You never know as long as Peace, Big Bird, Belkast and all the other "Oriole insiders" at Orioles Hangout are around.
  20. This isn't the first time you've brought up the magical 50-homer mark. Do you really think steroids are the sole reason there have been more 50-homer seasons since Aaron's playing days? You don't think that smaller parks, better off-season and in-season training, use of video, better bats, etc. play a very big role in this? I asked this in a similar thread and never got a response. Furthermore, why all the emphasis on homers? Where is the outrage over pitchers that used? If steroids wasn't a major reason for the dramatic increase in home runs during the steroid era why has there been such a dramatic drop off in home runs since drug testing was implemented? Did the parks all of a sudden start getting bigger again? Did the bats and training all of sudden get worse? Of course not, the reason for the drop is because there was a drop off in steroid use by players. Come on stat guys, look at the numbers.
  21. Based on what? The numbers that were put up.
  22. That's the same thing as being on steroids and HGH for years. Greenies, spit balls, sandpaper, blah, blah, blah - not close to having the same effect on the game as steroids and HGH. Okay, so let me get this straight: It's okay to use illegal, performance-enhancing drugs, as long as you don't use the really good stuff? I never said that but you're fooling yourself if you think greenies had the same effect on the game as steroids and HGH did during the steroid era.

  24. That's a myth. Baseball fans had come back before after strikes and they would have eventually come back again. no, it's definitely not a myth. sosa and mcgwire brought back plenty of fans. myself being one of them. to say that they didnt means that you just werent paying attention. Of course I was paying attention. I had McGwire in my home run pool. It was an exciting year and brought in a some casual fans "who only dug the long ball" but do you really think baseball would have filed bankruptcy if the McGwire/Sosa home run race hadn't occured?
