  1. I'd prefer to build a time machine and bring back 1998 Kerry Wood. But that's just me.
  2. Two interesting quotes from Maddon, for different reasons. “He looks like he’s in really good shape,” Maddon said. “I told him to be ready for the latter part of the game.” “He smelled really good,” the manager added. “I have to ask him about his aftershave.”
  3. With 3 games in the next 2 days I don't have an issue with leaving Richard in. Just have somebody ready in a hurry.
  4. When did Chip start to look like Fire Marshall Bill.
  5. My soul would die a little if Schwarber became a star for the Brewers.
  6. I'd rather go with Arrieta, especially if Lester would still require a David Ross start in an elimination game. If the scheduling requires Hammel to get the nod, that wouldn't be bad, either. I'm still holding out hope on the offense heating up in the 2nd half and making a run at the division. I am too. Why do I always do this? :banghead: If you were doing that the past few years, you are a better man than I. Well, definitely not for the Cubs making a run. Even then I would convince myself that Mike Olt's new contacts would solve everything for him, Pie would become an All-Star, Prior would throw more than towels, Dunston would develop...wash, rinse, repeat.

  8. No, no, no and no.
  9. Jim Bullinger still lives here in NOLA and is really involved in youth baseball in the area. He's an acquaintance of mine and a really good guy. I haven't seen him in about a year but I'd pick his brain about the 90's Cubs sometimes.
  10. I always rooted for Geremi Gonzalez for some reason. He was that guy I always hope was just about to put it all together.
  11. It was a different time, when home runs were really just rally killers and bloop hits were all laser shots.
  12. Law tries to temper expectations but gushes a bit on a 2-3-4 of Rizzo-Bryant-Schwarber on buster Olnley's latest podcast. On my phone or I'd post the link.
  13. AND, in New Orleans we're stuck with watching the [expletive] Yankees/Orioles, because there are so many AL East fans down here. [expletive]!!!!!!!
  14. i might try this Do it! Definitely my favorite drink that I make at home. Kraken is easily the best dark spiced rum I've ever had and it mixes really well. At the risk of sounding really weird I can't stress how great whole foods ginger ale is for mixed drinks. It's just way more gingery than the usual Schwepps/Canada Dry type stuff. Makes a huge difference. 1-1/2 ounces finely grated fresh ginger 6 ounces sugar 7-1/2 cups filtered water 1/8 tsp active dry yeast 2 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice -Bring ginger, sugar and 1/2 c of the water to a med simmer., whisking to dissolve sugar. Turn off heat immediately and steep for 1-1/2 hrs. -Pour the syrup through a fine mesh strainer into a bowl, pressing as much as you can through the filter. Chill quickly in an ice bath. -Pour the syrup into a clean 2-liter plastic bottle and add the yeast, lemon juice and remaining 7 cups of water. Place the cap on the bottle, gently shake to combine and leave the bottle at room temperature for 48 hours. Open and check for desired amount of carbonation. When it is carbonated enough, refrigerate. You will need to burp the bottle for a few days. Been using this recipe for years. Once you get it down you can start playing with adding orange peel, basil, whatever. So good.
  15. I was wondering if Ivan de Jesus is that common a name or if he is the junior to the former Cub. His Wiki page offered this interesting nugget.

    Olives

Olive oil and olive salad are delicious. I've never had a muffuletta with actual olives on it, though. Chopped olives, garlic, olive oil, salami, ham, mortadella and provolone on fresh sesame seed bread. That is all. The ones I've had have the olives mixed in with a giardiniera-style relish. So good. Boscolis and Ruffinos ship from NOLA. It's worth it.

Olives are like scotch. Horrible if you go cheap, but worth spending a little. Muffulettas alone make olives fantastic.
  19. Yeah, but about what we thought they would be right now, the doom and gloom of some aside. Three games over, Bryant and Russell looking as we hoped they would, Rizzo being Rizzo, winning streaks, losing streaks...sounds about right. Castro and Strop are the only real letdowns to this point. We are what we thought we'd be.
  20. This post atop page 4 makes a solid case for why it is good to read a thread from the beginning for context.
  21. This x 1000. Everybody (including Dutchie) is happy. Well, maybe not.
  22. Agree. Payton and Loomis don't exactly have the best track record in the early rounds. They've been living off the glory of Colston, Evans and Pierre Thomas a long time.
  23. Puzzling 1st Rd by the Saints. The OT isn't a bad pick at 13 at all and fills a need, but damn they needed an impact pash rusher. I guess they may gamble on Gregory at 44 tonight, or else they're hoping Cam Jordan and Junior Gallette bounce back. The WR depth is good enough for them to find one later in the draft.
