  1. I was having a drink last week at my neighborhood haunt and bumped into a few SF Giants fans right after the 4 game sweep. They saw my Cubs hat and immediately starting talking [expletive] about 1908 rabble rabble. They do it because it is the laziest form of insult, an ESPN graphic regurgitated by drunks. It's the trash talking equivalent of junk food.
  2. Pitchers are fickle is working out in our favor for once. Our top 4 starting pitchers are all having good to great years (even by Lester's established standards) and have only missed one start between them. True, but the SP has been there almost all season, 1-4 anyway. The difference now is that they're winning the 8-6,5-4 games. Obviously they are playing well, but I wouldn't say the're playing at a peak level yet. This may have been posted in the game thread already, but this quote from Arrieta after the game is pure badass:
  3. What's crazy about this team right now is that they're still not hitting on all cylinders. They've won 10 of 11 in a stretch when they've benched their former All-Star SS, the bullpen is shaky, the 5th starter job looks anything but settled and Bryant is scuffling. There is so much talent on this team that they can absorb problems that would hurt most teams this young. A key to me is one of Bryant or Soler driving in runs and picking up Rizzo. If only Bryant got hot to go along with Russell, Fowler, Schwarber, Soler and Rizzo...holy crap. We're talking mid 90's Indians offense.
  4. You are actually going to beat your chest and bump your thread where you suggested Addison Russell be benched? OK.
  5. Vogelsong last seen giving up that walk-off HR in extra innings at Atlanta.
  6. I've heard others say this, but why? He's already basically leading off a cluster of good hitters, and he seems to finally be comfortable where he is. Maybe flip his and Fowler's spots, I guess.
  7. I'm no fan of Castro, but saying [expletive] like how we'll cry when he boots a grounder in game 7 of the WS (after a great win) is why i hope he is just a dumb teen with poor punctuation skills and not a troll. I'm trying to give him the benefit of the doubt here.
  8. There is no way you are not 17. Not believing otherwise.
  9. #wearegoodyetinconsistentandprobablyayearaheadofschedulebutwhocaresi'mexcited
  10. I actually considered earhole to be fast, humane and painless. If Adam Dunn is what KB will be then we will have 2 guys who need a position. He will be a RH Rizzo part deaux at the plate. No way he is rizzo pt 2 at the plate unless he changes his stance with 2 strikes. His swing is like roulette. You mean like Rizzo did?

  12. Leal will always, always be the answer to "Who was traded to the Cubs for Campana?" if he does nothing else.
  13. Probably mentioned, but the Pirates upcoming stretch (and the Giants' too) is brutal.
  14. bryant is adam dunn with less pop I will stab you in your earhole. Repeatedly.
  15. That swing and miss 3rd strike by Castro was so far outside it didn't even show on the TV broadcast's K Zone. Like off the screen.
  16. Preach it. The Cubs should be in a better position next season at the deadline unless something has gone really wrong, and then they'd better make a big move. That realistic hope is a stronger bet to me than going deep into the playoffs this year. Before the last couple of weeks of suck I would have felt differently, maybe.
  17. Haren 2015=Sutcliffe 1984. Suck it haters.
  18. You sure about this? Really, really thinking he's in his teens.
  19. To be fair, they are only ranked 25th. The Vols have the skill position guys and are in the much weaker East. I could see 8-4 or so.
  20. Mission Impossible?!? Talk about taking one for the team.
  21. I just don't see Auburn or FSU being top 10. USC, TN and Georgia will surprise this year IMO.
  22. NOLA

    Baez

definitive no, i think Hamels was the only shot at that the talk that the padres want him had me a bit worried i love javy i hope they take castro I defer because I honestly don't know at this point, but who has more trade value-Castro or Baez?
  23. Exactly my feeling this year. At the same time, this doesn't seem like a FO that would sell low, especially chasing the 2nd WC. Also torn, but I see little happening with castro at the lowest value of his career.
  24. And this team will trend upward and downward again as the next 2 months play out. If this bad play continues and they're not buyers by the deadline then we'll all know it's time to think 2016. It's 162 games. They have plenty of time to play better ball, especially with a good move or two.
