It's what happens when you lead the league in OBP. Get used to it. 16 baserunners in 7 innings should lead to more than 4 runs being scored. Some bad breaks in the second inning cost the Cubs at least a couple runs, and in the 5th inning, 6 baserunners led to 4 runs. Beyond that, only the 7th inning was really disappointing, and even then Cedeno missed clearing the bases by a few feet.
Fortunately, the Cub offense has been good enough all around so that an overall disappointing first day for Edmonds has been overcome by this point. Remember, Hendry needed an extra LH bat in the lineup in CF.
88 through 7 for Dempster. He'll probably come out to pitch the 8th, but if I were Lou, I'd have, say, Wuertz warming up. If the 8th goes quick and easy, Wuertz can start the 9th. Otherwise, Wuertz in the 8th, Wood in the 9th.
In his small sample size, Edmonds is hitting .333/.333/.333/.667 . Not sure how that's necessarily proving anything about being better or worse than Reed Johnson or Felix Pie.
There were cheers. He's ruined everything today, though, by somehow making a wild pitch bounce off the wall while he was batting to kill one rally, then GIDP to kill a second.
