  1. i think you should look at vazquez's numbers And Haren's, for that matter. And I think you guys need to look at Carpenters numbers, for that matter. If you read up, you may notice neither of us whining that Carpenter didn't deserve to be on anyone's ballot. Carpenter had a higher pitching VORP than Haren/Vazquez, Haren/Vazquez had better K rates, better PRC, and didn't benefit as much from his defense as Carpenter. Carpenter did have a better HR rate, though. Nobody's saying Carp didn't deserve support, but Vazquez and Haren had just as much business being on a Cy Young ballot as Carp/Wainwright. This could just be the first year when some BBWAA voters looked beyond wins and ERA to determine their votes.

  3. C'mon AFC and NZ When is the draw again? Dec 5th? 4th? Draw is the 4th, but I think they'll announce the pod setup before then. At least, that's what I remember from 2006. Maybe they changed the rules again.
  4. If I were Jonathan Bornstein, I probably wouldn't be booking any Costa Rican vacations anytime soon.
  5. Uruguay gets the last spot after a 1-1 home draw with Costa Rica. That leaves 5 CAF, 4 AFC, 3 CONMEBOL, 3 CONCACAF and 1 OFC to make 2 pods.
  6. And yes, France gets the last seed.
  7. Freeze frame of the Henry handball: http://s3.amazonaws.com/twitpic/photos/full/43725701.jpg?AWSAccessKeyId=0ZRYP5X5F6FSMBCCSE82&Expires=1258589541&Signature=6VDcislyNsOIbWEa30tg5uGzHNA%3D
  8. Algeria, Greece, Slovenia, Portugal, France and ...
  9. No, it's even at this point.
  10. Here's a decent feed: http://atdhe.net/10488/watch-france-vs-ireland
  11. I wonder if Russia will be upset enough to get rid of Guus.
  12. Final whistle blows in Bosnia, making it official. Portugal through, eligible for that last seed (and eliminating Holland from having a chance at it). Two spots left.
  13. Two ten minute overtime periods, and if still no goals, then a shootout.
  14. Slovenia through to the World Cup, with Russia out. Russia currently the highest ranked team to miss the World Cup, but they may only hold that distinction for a half hour or so.
  15. Wow, another Russian just got sent off. Russia 2 men down and needing a goal in injury time.
  16. Bosnian player just got sent off. They've given up. Slovenia-Russia in injury time in the 2nd with Russia down a player and needing a goal.
  17. Portugal scores in Bosnia, meaning Bosnia now needs 3 goals (meaning it's basically over).
  18. Ireland leads 1-0 in France to tie up the aggregate. Slovenia leads Russia 1-0 at halftime and would advance if the score holds due to away goals.
  19. Miscounted UEFA by one. But yeah, dominated by UEFA and CONMEBOL.
  20. Gotta be CAF Yeah, CONCACAF has one (USA 1930), AFC has one (South Korea in 2002), CONMEBOL has 19 (Brazil 10 times, Argentina 4, Uruguay 4, Chile 1), and UEFA 51 (Germany/West Germany 11, Italy 8, France 5, Sweden 4, Holland 3, Yugoslavia/Croatia 3, England 2, Portugal 2, Poland 2, Austria 2, Hungary 2, Czechoslovakia 2, Spain 1, USSR 1, Turkey 1, Belgium 1, Bulgaria 1)
  21. USA leads 1-0 at Denmark in the first. Also, Greece is in after winning 1-0 in Ukraine.
  22. Pop quiz: Which is the only federation (other than Oceania, which finally actually sent a qualifier the last 2 WCs) to never have a WC semifinalist?
  23. Algeria leads Egypt 1-0 at halftime, and Ukraine and Greece are underway and scoreless in the 1st.
  24. It's practically Funk-King unwatchable.
  25. Well, they finally won a game impressively. Plus, they got the one winnable game on the nightmare trip. Now, a four game stretch of Lakers, Nuggets, Blazers and Jazz before the early schedule from hell finally ends.
