  1. 104 days before the end of the season comes out to June 22, the day after IL play ends. That's an extremely convenient coincidence.
  2. Mexico scores again to go up 2-1 in El Salvador, and that could just about do it for El Salvador's chances for the hex (since they already lost at Costa Rica).
  3. Both teams got hosed, and the Cubs ended up on top!
  4. El Salvador just equalized with Mexico midway through the 2nd half. Hex could be more difficult than usual this cycle, especially with Panama looking good.
  5. Looks like Poland is bunkering the rest of this game and taking their chances they'll beat the Czech Republic.
  6. I wonder how Seattle feels about this whole NBA Finals business...
  7. Poland really doesn't care for Russia.
  8. Jorge Soler: http://cdn.bleacherreport.net/images_root/slides/photos/002/293/075/JorgeSoler_display_image.png?1338910190 Young Wesley Snipes: http://guymanningham.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/Willie-Mays-Hayes-Major-League.jpg
  9. What gets me is the number of people who think the only two sides to this argument are a 100 loss team or a playoff contender, and anyone who doesn't think one must think the other.
  10. Rizzo is bored with your minor league pitching. http://www.milb.com/images/2012/06/11/mQ7YDSXj.jpg
  11. Jim Hendry says hi. It remains one of the things that irritated me the most about his reign. More so than his change in organizational philosophy every 6 months, or the system's complete inability to develop positional players and keep pitchers healthy?
  12. Yeah, it's wise to not get too caught up in results, especially at lower levels of development. There are always adjustment periods and specific developments.
  13. What? Ethier is one of the premier outfielders in the league, and the Dodgers are wise to lock him up long term and pay him like the premier outfielder that he is...
  14. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
  15. Everyone's a critic.
  16. So, when none of that worked out, should the first response have been to question the organizational development strategy (of which there apparently was none)?
  17. Very true. And that's pretty much what Goldstein said a little bit ago. He said he could see the Cubs getting a top 10 organizational guy for Dempster, which would obviously be great. Top 10 organizational guy? As in top 10 in the organization. Can't tell whether that would mean our organization or the trading one, but I'd guess the latter. Which would be good, unless they're trading him to the White Sox.
  18. Here's what my thoughts are, at this time (assuming the top 10 picks all sign with the Cubs): 1. Rizzo 2. Baez 3. Soler 4. Almora 5. Jackson 6. Szczur 7. Castillo 8. Lake 9. Hernandez 10. Vitters 11. Johnson/Underwood/Blackburn/McNutt
  19. An interesting question at this point is whether there is a single pitcher in the Cubs' top 10 right now.
  20. Translated, "Soler" means "to do frequently", and "Jorge" means "Earth-worker". So...not near as fun as Charlie Marbles.
  21. If you look at what some teams will be graduating, it makes it a bit easier to project. The Blue Jays, Pads, Rangers, and Cards are probably the top 4 at the end of the season. Other teams with good systems are Red Sox, Rays, Braves, A's, DBacks, Pirates, Royals, and Mariners. Without going through each one, the returns we could get for those 3 guys could vault us past each one, factoring in graduations and the seasons some of the players involved are having. As I said, I figure Rizzo is our only big prospect I expect to lose eligibility for us. Brett Jackson, possibly, as well.
  22. I'd probably rate Almora over Jackson just because the potential ceiling is a good deal higher, despite Almora being the prospect furthest from the majors in the system. I'd expect Baez and Soler to have similar timetables to the majors, with Almora probably a year to 18 months behind them on the development curve.
  23. Right...was that what he thought was sarcasm? I misunderstood then. Anyway, lol Mets.
  24. lol Mets. This is sarcasm, right? Why would it be sarcasm? I don't want to live in a world where I can't laugh at the Mets money management. And no, it's not sarcasm. The Mets are paying Bonilla through 2035 (and Saberhagen through 2029). They structured their contracts that way so they could afford to sign Mike Hampton to his ridiculous contract in 1999 (and later pay him to play decently for other teams).
  25. http://a.espncdn.com/photo/2011/1101/mlb_a_hoyer_gb1_576.jpg I am still nowhere near used to that.
