  1. Usually we limit starters to 1 per day for that week. Since everyone's playing 3 games, that would mean 3 starts, no?
  2. The longer this game goes without a Mexico goal, the funnier it gets.
  3. I guess "3B BRYANT SIGNS FOR SLOT VALUE" doesn't provoke the same froth from the masses as "BRYANT SIGNS RECORD DEAL".
  4. A 27 year old reliever that had a good year in 2008 and hasn't thrown over 30 innings in 3 years? Can't imagine contenders are clamoring for that.
  5. Also... @MixDiskerud I take it I'm now officially cap-tied to @ussoccer Thanks for having me. 1:31 AM - 10 Jul 2013
  6. The game last night reminded me a lot of the Nigeria-Tahiti game three weeks ago in the Confed Cup. Tons of chances, a bit sloppy in execution, and a bad defensive sequence that lead to an embarrassing goal. I suppose that's a good thing, since Nigeria is a quality squad the the USMNT was fielding about 5 world class players last night.
  7. Goodson was easily the worst USMNT player on the pitch last night, and he was AWOL on the embarrassing Belize goal.
  8. You need one of the official Cubs' scorecards. In the scorecard, it lists the other teams' pitchers alphabetically and assigns them numbers (from 1 to, say, 14 max). Those numbers are the ones they put up.
  9. So you're saying it doesn't matter that the scoreboard is functional in that capacity. If you want to argue down that route, they may as well just have a giant blown up picture of the scoreboard up there that provides no function.
  10. I hate to say it, but the scoreboard is functionally pretty useless in its current state. It's incapable of showing three of the games, nobody has any idea of who is pitching, hitting, or what is currently going on in any games until a half inning is over, and even then you need a translation guide to understand what the scoreboard player numbers mean. 90% of the people in the park use their smartphones to acquire information hundreds of times more useful than the scoreboard provides. At this point, the only remotely useful portion of the scoreboard is the Cubs' score line and the divisional flags.
  11. USMNT up to #22 in the latest FIFA rankings, ahead of France, Ghana and Denmark, and just behind basically the entire CONMEBOL confederation. Mexico at 20.
  12. You are almost constantly wrong, and should generally feel bad.

    Rizzo

Perhaps this will make you feel better. It takes a while for power to develop. it would still be nice for him to do it now. Of all players 23 and under, he's second in HR and Iso behind only Trout (would be behind Harper, too, if he qualified). He's easily second in Iso because he also hits a lot of doubles (3rd behind Machado and Trout). As for overall, he is only 3 HR behind Fielder & Votto. Are you doubting their power, too? when Fielder was Rizzo's age he was hitting 50 home runs in a season, so yeah, i'd say he has power. Votto's an on-base machine, he does other things. Rizzo has to hit for power to benefit this team. Did you just selectively ignore all the power numbers for the league, and the drastic difference in the power landscape in the past three years?
  14. Other midseason publications and writers had Almora ahead of Baez, so I'm not surprised to see Almora where he is. I'm more surprised by where Baez is. Not really that surprised where BA has Baez. They looooooveeeee tools and Baez is already at AA. The old regime loved to draft toolsy players as well, they just thought the five tools were bunting for a hit, bunting to advance the runner, legging out a grounder to second, catching the ball, and being left handed.
  15. Man, have the White Sox been bad since the last time the Cubs played them. 24-24 going into the crosstown series, 10-27 since. They're nearing Houston/Miami bad.
  16. It'd be even funnier if they somehow manage to lose to Canada or Martinique.
  17. I think it might currently be the least interesting team we have in the minors now. their offense is incredibly dull. who's the best prospect? devoss, geiger, radenmacher? yuck. ...Soler?
  18. Wow, I stopped paying attention at half. They rolled them in the second.
  19. Four pitch walk to Liriano to lead off the 6th...I don't think Samardzija's got it today, Cubs.
  20. Seeing your previous post, I take it you like Jozy in Sunderland? Most of the critical response I've seen to this is regarding the Hull City disaster, but this should be a completely different situation for at least two reasons: 1) Sunderland specifically wanted Altidore, not just a striker 2) Jozy is much better now than he was 3 years ago
  21. Ha. Someone should give Bruce a compound fracture of the lower leg, it'd be an edifying experience for him. I'm pretty sure it wasn't a compound fracture, either. Compound fracture, stress fracture, same family of ailment.
  22. The Pirates may actually be legitimately good this year.
  23. I'd say Wood and nobody else. I can't imagine the Cubs get more than 1, and like David said, Wood is clearly the most deserving (peripherals or not). I could see Gregg making it depending on who's choosing. If it ends up being a hitter, the only logical choice would be Schierholz.
  24. All-Star selections are tomorrow...who makes it from the Cubs? Samardzija? Wood? Gregg? Schierholz?
  25. That marks the Cubs' first first-inning hit against the Pirates since Rizzo's HR on opening day. This is the 10th game against them.
