  1. It'd be even funnier if they somehow manage to lose to Canada or Martinique.
  2. I think it might currently be the least interesting team we have in the minors now. their offense is incredibly dull. who's the best prospect? devoss, geiger, radenmacher? yuck. ...Soler?
  3. Wow, I stopped paying attention at half. They rolled them in the second.
  4. Four pitch walk to Liriano to lead off the 6th...I don't think Samardzija's got it today, Cubs.
  5. Seeing your previous post, I take it you like Jozy in Sunderland? Most of the critical response I've seen to this is regarding the Hull City disaster, but this should be a completely different situation for at least two reasons: 1) Sunderland specifically wanted Altidore, not just a striker 2) Jozy is much better now than he was 3 years ago
  6. Ha. Someone should give Bruce a compound fracture of the lower leg, it'd be an edifying experience for him. I'm pretty sure it wasn't a compound fracture, either. Compound fracture, stress fracture, same family of ailment.
  7. The Pirates may actually be legitimately good this year.
  8. I'd say Wood and nobody else. I can't imagine the Cubs get more than 1, and like David said, Wood is clearly the most deserving (peripherals or not). I could see Gregg making it depending on who's choosing. If it ends up being a hitter, the only logical choice would be Schierholz.
  9. All-Star selections are tomorrow...who makes it from the Cubs? Samardzija? Wood? Gregg? Schierholz?
  10. That marks the Cubs' first first-inning hit against the Pirates since Rizzo's HR on opening day. This is the 10th game against them.
  11. The Cubs' hitting has been just miserable against the Pirates this season.
  12. Flyers sign Ray Emery for 1 year, $1.65 million, which...puts them over the projected salary cap by 1 million even after all the salary dumping they did.
  13. Late afternoon start against the best team in the majors.
  14. Well, that I was not expecting.
  15. But the Dodgers didn't sign him "out of nowhere;" other teams were interested and were willing to spend big money. The only "out of nowhere" part were people on the outside looking in with relatively minimal information who were just wrong. The teams involved apparently had a much better idea of who he was/is. That is an argument framed around hindsight, though. It worked out, so the Dodgers knew what they were doing, obviously.
  16. No, because that's a stupid thing to do in a high-offense game in the 6th inning?
  17. Assuming 5% overages: Standard 5% Over --------------------------------------------------- Cubs bonus pool $4,557,000 $4,784,850 Cubs add from Astros +$ 784,000 +$ 823,200 Cubs add from Orioles +$ 388,000 +$ 407,400 =================================================== $5,729,000 $6,015,450 Cubs give Dodgers -$ 209,000 -$ 219,450 =================================================== $5,520,000 $5,796,000 Cubs sign Torres -$1,700,000 -$1,700,000 Cubs sign Mejia -$ 850,000 -$ 850,000 Cubs sign Moreno -$ 800,000 -$ 800,000 =================================================== Remaining IFA Budget: $2,170,000 $2,446,000

    Week 14

    Because it's week 14 now.
  19. So to this point... Cubs bonus pool $4,557,000 Cubs add from Astros +$ 784,000 Cubs add from Orioles +$ 388,000 ================================== $5,729,000 Cubs give Dodgers -$ 209,000 ================================== $5,520,000 Cubs sign Torres -$1,700,000 Cubs sign Mejia -$ 850,000 ================================== Remaining IFA Budget: $2,970,000
  20. That's a rhetorical question, right?
  21. One thing I didn't notice (because who notices doubles tennis?), but the Bryan brothers have now won the 2012 Olympic gold, the 2012 US Open, the 2013 Australian Open, and the 2013 French Open, so are just a Wimbledon victory shy of the Golden Slam, and if they can win Wimbledon and the US open this year, they'll be the first doubles team to win the Grand Slam in the Slam era.
  22. Damn it, twitter. Four then, and the fourth is also mind boggling.
