  1. why would the current baseball players care one iota about that? They won't care much, but they don't really control who plays and who doesn't either. The Reds haven't had anyone of value start for them for 3 months now, and they'll likely give their better veterans some "rest days" and get their version of Lake/Szczur into the games to "see what they've got". After all the complaining you did about the Cubs losing on purpose, you don't see the Reds doing the same?
  2. I don't see the point in the Reds even trying to win one game. They're within reach of the #1 pick right now and there's no reason to screw that up.
  3. Cubs need them to take 2 I hope the Reds at least take 1 of the first 2 and the Cubs take care of business so there is something to play for on the last day at least. I'm pretty sure the Pirates will have Cole, Liriano and Burnett going so it will be a tall order. Cole pitched Wednesday, so I'm fairly sure they won't have him going on short rest over the weekend and then again on the WC game. The Reds, though, have a decent shot yet at the #1 overall pick next year, so there's no benefit to them winning even one game this weekend.
  4. Today's game thread isn't up yet, so I'll put the stat here. With today's starter being a rookie, that marks a record 60 straight games that the Reds have started a rookie, going back to the day they traded away Mike Leake.
  5. The rebuildi already peaked, and now the fall begins. That's how far ahead of schedule they are.
  6. You still don't even understand what was horribly bad about the system after being told 20 times, so why start now, I suppose.
  7. Thanks to the Cubs, the Blue Jays now have the best record in the AL.
  8. F pitchers. But the dude was 90 IP past his career high IP. It's not really a surprise, is it? wasnt it a leg injury? He's out with a strained shoulder according to what I read. weird i thought it was a knee you think everything is a nee
  9. But you had a very specific set of skills!
  10. Also, blaming Strop for the loss because of a strikeout is about the stupidest thing I ever heard.
  11. Who cares? Just win games and stay healthy.
  12. The team leads the majors in walks. They always get their fair share of baserunners.
  13. Then you're a [expletive] unfathomable moron Herrera has a K% of 17%. Soler's is around 30%. We don't care about power in that situation. Tying the game was all that mattered. Popup to anywhere does nothing either. The only situation that Herrera is preferred to Soler is fielding second.
  14. And Lester was 20th when I made the comment.
  15. Nats lose, lowing Cubs Nat magic number to 1.
  16. Oddly enough, no one is arguing that he should be left off.
  17. How is Schwarber not a lock? Hell, Castro and LaStella are probably pretty close to locks too. Jackson, Wood and Cahill are probably next Schwarber has been bad the past three weeks and is not a good defender. His value is entirely as a LH bat and there may be other value that takes priority if he can't get it going. Castro is a bit redundant with Baez to the point where both may not be needed and Joe takes one. I have 14 hitters and 11 pitchers, but Joe may have 12 or even 13 pitchers on the roster if he thinks he'll need them.
  18. Rosscup is not a pitcher lock by any definition. Neither is Soler a hitting lock. Actual locks: - Hitters: Rizzo, Bryant, Fowler, Russell, Montero, Coghlan and Ross. - Pitchers: Arrieta, Lester, Rondon, Strop and Grimm. Other positions guaranteed: - 2B: One of Castro/Baez/La Stella - Corner OF: One of Schwarber/Jackson/Soler/Denorfia - 3 starter: One of Hammel/Haren/Hendricks That's just 15 with 6 pitchers and a backup C. No lefties in the pen yet so at least one spot goes to Wood/Richard/Rosscup. So how do you fill out the rest? Here are my choices for the 13 spots up for grabs: Castro 2B Soler OF Hendricks SP Hammel SP Wood LHP La Stella LH bench IF Schwarber LH bench OF Jackson RH bench OF Richard LHP Rodney RHP Cahill RHP Baez RH bench IF Berry PR
  19. I don't think it counts as conceding the game to take Arrieta out here.
  20. No need to overdo things on Arrieta. Just win the game.
  21. Washington loses to Baltimore 4-1. Cubs Nat magic number down to 3.
  22. Shame, that 19 pitch inning probably rules out a Maddux for Arrieta.
  23. Two of the three Brewers hits were grounders to short, also.
  24. This might be a new record for you, calling a game when it's 1-0 2 outs into the game in Coors Field.
