  1. The Reds are done IMO. The Cardinals are just going to win the division on being the tallest midget.
  2. Is OU really that bad? Did they lose a bunch of players to graduation last year? They were picked to finish in the mid to low part of the MAC East. The MAC East isn't really good besides Akron this year. The better MAC teams this year are in the West (NIU, Toledo, Ball St, Western/Central Mich). I look for NIU to take out their frustration, from last week, on Ohio. NIU's defense, which was the week point of the team the past couple of years, is supposed to be much improved this year. Obviously when you're facing two Heisman candidates and a team whose O-line is about 100 pounds heavier than each of your members on the D-line, you won't really find out too much on how your defense is going to perform.
  3. If the Cubs lose today, they will have the worst record in the National League. Please lose.
  4. Not good enough: Hahaha. The funny thing is Pie's season mirrored Pierre's in terms of average; was around .240 the first half before pushing his average up to .283 at the end of the season. Baker is very quick to give Pierre his share of praise, but when Felix has a similar season (and when he's learning on the job how to hit AAA pitching at only 21 years old), he's all over him.
  5. Good luck Ron... Hopefully you'll find a job higher up and remain in the Cubs organization. That would be a nice scenario :)
  6. SIU is off this week, ndi. However, the Salukis travel to Bloomington next Saturday to take on the Hoosiers. NIU should beat Ohio by 3 TD's. Hopefully Wolfe can get 200 yards, but the last time Ohio was in DeKalb was in 2003 when NIU was 7-0 at the time. Ohio's defense did a great job of stopping Michael Turner and they made Josh Haldi (NIU's QB at the time) beat them. It almost worked as they almost pulled off the upset, before PJ Fleck took over the game in the 4th quarter and in the OT to give NIU the win. Hopefully the Rutgers-Illini game is as entertaining as last year's game that was at Champaign. I also believe ND should be able to beat Penn State. If the game was in Happy Valley, it would more than likely be a different outcome, but I also agree that ND will pull away late and win by 10 or so.
  7. Are you serious!? I love Cub/Packer fans!! Another Cub/Packer fan here. Yeah, my sports teams are losers. At least one of them won a championship in my lifetime, though. Cub/Packer fans for life. The Thursday night game should be real interesting without Roethlisberger. Miami could have a chance to steal a big win to start the season.
  8. I can see why Najeh was cut. Injuries have plagued him and he has looked pretty miserable in the preseason. We re-signed him to a one year deal in the offseason, but I guess McCarthy and Thompson saw something they didn't like.
  9. Are you kidding? The Packers could be the worst team in the NFL. We may not be good, but worst team in the NFL? If you think this will be a blowout, you're clearly mistaken. The Bears didn't really blow any team out last year and had several close games, including both games against Green Bay. So what makes you think that this game will be a blowout? I'm confident the Pack can keep it close and I think they may be able to pull off the upset if Favre doesn't turn the ball over more than twice. GO PACK GO! What makes me think this game will be a blow out? The Packers are TERRIBLE. I know you're a Packers fan but let's face it, there is no upside to this season. Ahman Green is done, Favre is done, Donald Driver is the only receiver of note and he's no game breaker, the head coach the Pack hired coached the worst offense in the history of football last year, the O-line is studded with rookies, Ahmad Carroll is a bust, the D-line is pedestrian, and the Pack have looked awful in the preseason. Barring some sort of miracle, there is no way the Pack are covering in this game. The tables have turned in this rivalry. The O-line is defintely one of our worse points on the team..our defense isn't as bad as people think though. Our LB corps for the future seems pretty good with Barnett-Hawk-Hodge and I think we'll be alright there. Our D-line could use some work, but Kampman made huge strides last year. KGB gets manhandled by the bigger tackles and sucks at defending the run, and our DT's aren't nothing to brag about. Our secondary is not that bad either. Woodson has sucked a lot in the preseason but i dont think he'll be that bad in the regular season. Marquand Manuel is an improvement over Mark Roman. On defense, I actually feel decent about our chances. Offense is a whole 'nother story and thats why we are the underdog in this one. I'm dedicated though and I believe the Packers are close to a .500 team, so maybe we can pull off the upset. Carroll and Horton will get exploited anytime they see the field. One less concern for us as Horton was finally cut. I remember the game against the Colts two years ago where Horton stepped on the field as one of our CB's (can't remember who right now) got hurt and missed the rest of the game. Horton was burned on every play and he looked like a high schooler defending pros out there. Other "big-name" cuts by the Packers: Najeh Davenport and Rod Gardner. Looks like we're set with Green as the starter, Gado the backup, and Noah Herron as the 3rd string back :? The Gardner cut is interesting as the Pack only have 4 wideouts now. When asked about getting Rogers, Ted Thompson said he wouldn't tell the media if he was looking into it, but he said that they would "probably" sign another WR soon. Definitely wouldn't be surprised to see Rogers wind up in Green Bay now. How has Ahman Green looked so far? He looked ok in the game against Cincy (one of our bright spots)...he looked healthy and ready to go, but he's not going to be able to do much with our makeshift offensive line. Last year he looked slow and his ability to find the open holes seemed like it deteriorated greatly. He's looked much better in that aspect of the game so far...at least he is healthy.

  11. Iowa keeps their playoff hopes alive with a 7-4 win! Wells earned the win. Here's his final line: 6 IP, 5 hits, 1 ER, 2 BB's, 5 K's. Rapada pitched a scoreless 7th. Marmol struggled as he gave up 3 runs and 4 hits in the 8th. Ligtenberg earned the save as he had a perfect 9th. Felix went 2/3 with a homer and a triple, 1 RBI, 2 walks, and 2 runs scored. EPatt was 1/4 with 2 RBI's. Scott Moore went 1/4 with a run scored. Deardorff also homered. Jaxx win 4-1. Brownlie pitched 4 scoreless, allowing 3 hits, 4 walks, and struck out 3. Atlee got the win as he pitched 3 innings, allowing 2 hits, 1 run, walked none, and struck out one. Blevins got the save as he pitched the 8th and 9th, allowing only 2 hits and struck out 2. Lewis was 3/4 with two doubles, an RBI, a SB, and 2 runs scored. Carlos Rojas was 2/4; Miguel Negron, and Albenis Machado were 1/4. Chris Walker, Brandon Sing, and Aron Weston were each 1/3. Daytona scored 2 in the top half of the 7th in game 2 of the doubleheader, but lost 4-3 in the bottom of the 7th. Carlos Perez took the loss. Matt Craig went 2/3 with a double, an RBI, and a walk.
  12. Wolfe had a good game as usual, but the defense looked like crap once again and Horvath sucked too. That INT when NIU was already down 21-0 really hurt as we were inside the OSU 15 before that turnover. Game should've been closer than what it was, but OSU looked pretty good today.
  13. I would hope Green Bay would be interested in Rogers.
  14. I don't bet much, so I wouldn't know. That description you gave for Packers fans is the same with my friends, who are Bears fans. It's that way for every team. And seriously, any team can win any game in this age in the NFL. Just look at the Dolphins over the Pats a couple of years ago.

  17. Supposedly Toledo's wideout dropped a wide open pass in the end zone, which would've tied it. Tough break for the Rockets.
  18. As expected, SIU rolled over Lock Haven, 49-0 :D Next up: Indiana in 2 weeks. A win over a Big 10 school would be pretty damn cool, no matter if it's Indiana.
  19. I realize that Baker is a lame duck manager as well, but why hire an interim manager for 29 games when Girardi is likely to be available after this season? Baker hasn't been fired yet. I highly doubt he'd be fired now.
  20. Peoria won 8-7 in 11! The Chiefs sent it to extras in the bottom of the 9th on an RBI single by Kyle Reynolds. YUSUF won the game with a walkoff single in the bottom of the 11th :) Boise won 9-0. Ceda, Papelbon, Kopach, and Roquet combined to throw a 5-hit shutout. As mentioned earlier, Canzler hit his 16th homer of the season, a 2-run shot, and Colvin hit his 8th homer of the year, a grand slam.
  21. And Nashville is losing 6-4 right now...hopefully it will be a great night for Iowa in terms of the standings.
  22. It's not going to happen. Why hire a lame duck manager for 29 games? That doesn't make too much sense to me.
  23. Think it's safe to say that Dempster had a fluke year last year. He has been god awful all season long this year. Blowing two leads in a row against the freaking Pirates is a JOKE. Nice to see Theriot have 1/4 of the team's hits. Too bad he'll be right back on the bench on Friday :x
