  1. This thread really doesnt even deserve our attention. The Phillies made good plays this weekend. In retrospect, when guys get thrown out it is a mistake, but Quade has "stolen" several runs this year by being aggressive. This is just one of my pet peeves--I just cannot stand getting on him for the 3 he lost this weekend, and just ignoring the other that were good aggressive decsions. If this trend continues over the next 4 months, then maybe it is worth discussing. But until then, this is just a ridiculous thread.
  2. Just to clarify what I was trying to say. I didnt want to jump Murton for dropping one ball today--I was saying that I have noticed, or maybe perceived is a better word, a rather lethargic and uninterested approach to catching flyballs by Murton through the start of this season. If nobody else notices this, that is what I want to know--I am not saying I can prove it or anything, it is just a feeling I get and I wanted to see if anyone else noticed this same thing...that's all
  3. I just dont buy the lack of playing time being an excuse. I would think that would increase his attention to detail not lead to this casualness. And yes, I know he dropped the ball today, but it seems to me that this is not the first casual grab he has attempted
  4. Just curious to know if anyone else has seen a very large chip growing on Matt Murton's shoulder? I have always liked him but his overall appearance and approach seem different to me this year. I just wonder if he feels "cheated" in some way. He looks lacksidasical in the field and just almost looked pissed all the time when he is at the plate. I know he is a favorite around here and I dont want to kill the kid, but he is either hurting or he is displaying a different attitude than I saw last year
  5. Give me someone who makes comparable money to Jones that would be a better option for us? Why can I not be serious? I am not saying he is the greatest signing ever, I just dont think he is as bad as some on here think. Just give me names of others we could have and then maybe I will "se the light"
  6. Soapy--read the thread. I agree he should sit against lefties. I wanted other reasons--basically against right handed pitching why he should not play. Soriano--what baserunning blunders has he made this year?? --he has made some great plays in center. --how do you know what he is considering? I remember just last week he grounded out to second advancing a runner to third. I still go back to--who should we have gotten?
  7. I was in the bleachers the night that Mongo got the boot and Ricky scored on Girardi's hit Best childhood memory game was Cubs beating mets3-2 on a Keith Moreland walk-off. One of my first games and I swear the enitre crowd chanted "mets suck" as we all excited. I was little so I dont remember too many details--anyone else remember that one?
  8. So he is just bad because you say so???? Who should have Hendry got instead of JJ?? Could you give some examples of people you would have rather had hendry get?
  9. i know he has had a bad couple of games, but besides that what has he done so wrong that so many people on here just hate him. I didnt really understand it last year and I still dont understand it. As of Sunday he was over.300 and like I said he led the team in RBI with 2-outs. He is versitle................other than the fact that he cannot hit lefties--what is it that he does that makes him public enemy #1. He always seems to hustle and he seems like a good team guy. I just want someone to explain to me what he has done that is so bad and keep the fact that he cannot hit lefties out of it--we all agree on that. I think even Lou does, but as of now--there are not many options
  10. Good heavens people......JJ has been very good this year. I just heard this weekend he leads the cubs in 2 out RBI. He had a bad game. He does not hit lefties--we all know that. I am sure Pie will soon be back to Iowa and a Right-handed option for CF will be found(maybe Angel Pagan?). But those of you who simply say just DFA him are not being very rational.
  11. I am glad there is so much feedback. I thought there was much more support on here for hendry as I read the first couple of pages, then he kind of lost with the later pages. I am not sure what some people around here are looking for--I think some of you are fairly narrow -minded in some of your responses, but I understand the frustration and do agree you have to win. I have enjoyed reading this--thanks
  12. I was just thinking about this the last couple of days. I heard on a radio show how Hendry should not be given credit for getting Lee and ARAM because both the Marlins and the Pirates were in sell mode and people made it sound like basically they were there for the taking. My thouhgts are he got em...........period. And they are the cornerstones to our team for many years. I know several people were upset to give up Choi and Hill yet look at where they are at now. On the flip side. Hendry has made Hill an "untouchable" for the last several years and many people scoffed at him for this. Now that he is looking like the ace that He projected him to be, it seems like people just take for granted the fact that Hendry stuck with him when it would have been very easy to sell. People sit in here and debate whether he is a good GM based on people like Perez and Izturis, and I fel too often miss the big obvious points. I just like what he has done and really feel lik he has done a ood job and just wanted to point out a couple of the good things he has done. Now, go ahad and everyone start ripping me :?
  13. Ok, I am not sure about this one, but I cannot mess with Karma right now. I really think the train is starting to role. This line-up is starting to come together and I really think the pitching is going to stay good. A couple of comment from being at the games this weekend: 1) Derek Lee is worth every cent of my $42 ticket--he plays with such grace and elegance for a man his size and just seems like even a better leader than a player. I really like him 2) I think Lou is really starting to get a feel how to use his team and more importantly the players are starting to understand they must stay involved. 3) JJ is a better ball player than anyon here gives him credit for and is much better in CF. 4) This goes without saying, but I just remeind myself every summer how there is no better place on earth than the corner Clark and Addison! What an absolute treasure Wrigley field is!!
  14. I am just taking a bow  What a fun weekend at the park and it seems as though things are heading in the right direction. I dont want to say I told you so................BUT I TOLD YOU SO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. Before I leave for Chicago to go see Friday and Saturdays games, I just wanted to make sure that everyone remembered my original post. They are in position to do exactly what I said......I guess we will see when I return......
  16. Thanks--sorry if I got anyones hopes up.....they must be good at over-dramatizing headlines! Thanks
  17. I saw on ESPN.com that on their insider page they say the Izturis might be done on the north side? Does anyone get insider that cn read that? Just thought that would be an awfully interesting transaction. Thanks in advance for the info
  18. Like I said only time will tell, but there are a few of you who are going to eat crow if I am correct. I just dont think we are playing bad baseball--we are losing yes, but not playing that poorly--I think there are better days ahead. I dont know--maybe I am wrong, but I just feel like we are moving in the right direction. I will be happy to admit I am wrong in a week if I am. that is the fun of making a prediction--might be right, but might be wrong--we will see
  19. Ok, here is the way I see it. We get some time on the road to ge tback on track this next week. I see a 4-2 road trip. If we can pull that off, then we come home to play the Nationals (which I will be at on Fri and Sat 8-) ). So we come home and sweep them and we are now right back to .500. I know this may sound overly optimistic, but I am really just growing to trust Lou--he is not afraid to do things as he showed by putting Theriot at SS yesterday.....I just feel like we have had a lot of misfortune and it is about to turn around. Only time will tell I guess Thoughts?
  20. I agree about the line-up..I would sure like them to settle on this line-up for a bit Soiano LF Theriot SS Lee 1B ARAM #B Barrett C Jones CF Murton RF Derosa 2B I would like to see what it could do for a week. Also, let's not everyone forget that we were what 6 games above .500 about this time last year and we all know how quickly it can turn around. it is still possible for it to turn around the other way--lot of ball left people!
  21. Well, who is that guy going to be..................... By your logic Theriot had two chances to produce runs and he came up with nothing last night--so is he your guy???. I agree we want clutch hitting and good defense, but tha game is not easy to play and it is hard to get everything you want on a team so you have to try and maintain balence on both offense and defense
  22. I just posted this in another thread about Izzy defense. It has been very smooth and very good other than 1 game. Last night that play he made up the middle was terrific and turned into a DP that saved lord knows how many runs. You can argue him not being a good enough hitter to justify starting, but he is very good defensively and dont let just one game diminesh that. That is like saying Zambrano is not a good pitcher just because he blew up in one game and has not gotten off to the best start
  23. I think you want to be careful when you are talking about shortstop. I agree Izzy has been less than stellar so far, but I would hang with him. Let's not forget the DP he started with the bases loaded last night--who knows how many runs that saved. I just think with the line-up we have right now it is more than justified to try and keep SS a defensive--oriented position
  24. I love it to be honest with you. You know what--if they do by some chance tie the game and he has to go in it would be the most entertaining thing I have seen in a long time. I just like that Lou has the nuts to try it. If there was a well hit ball right at an outfielder and Marquis scores when Ward could not have--we would all be praising him. Good for Lou--have guts and fun and have the confidence to take a risk at the expence of being second guessed. Just the perspective of me!
  25. Listen, i like Murton too, but Lou job is to try and win TODAY. That being said, he should not consider who is what in the future, blah blah, blah--try and win today and I think over the last few days he feels that Floyd gives us a better chance to win and to be honest I think Floyd does. Give it some time before everyone goes nuts
