  1. 6 safeties on the roster. Guessing Conte is out this week at least. Also wonder with the 2 LBs signed to the practice squad if that's not bad news for McClellin and/or Bostic.
  2. Freaked out for a good 2 seconds when I thought that was saying Russell was playing RF today.
  3. Absolutely, but it would never happen. Why not? Too much of an alpha dog for Trestman? Yeah basically. I want Seattle DB coach Kris Richard. But it'll probably be a promotion for Pasqualoni.
  4. The beat writers keep talking about the bottom of the roster churn, so I assume it is actually more than usual. It certainly appears that way to me. Injuries + Incompetence. Multiple players have been hurt at the same position, causing the Bears to have guys ready at the back of the roster and on the practice squad in case a guy can't go. We've seen this with OL (Garza, Slauson), WR (in case Marshall and Jeffery couldn't go in SF), CB (McManis), LB (McClellin). And the bottom 3-5 players on the Bears roster have been so terrible that it's become a revolving door. I actually don't mind this type of juggling. Might as well use spots 50-53 to find a diamond in the rough. Ahmad Dixon looked like he might be a keeper on special teams until he got hurt. I don't mind it either, but it does not speak well to Emery's ability to build a roster, 3 years into his tenure. Yeah, especially since he got rid of some halfway decent bottom feeders like Weems, JT Thomas, Steltz, etc. and Lovie always seemed to do well with these types of guys.

  6. Just coming to post. Also got rid of 2 off the practice squad (Roy Philbon-DL and Rashad Ross) and added 2 LBs that were previously on the PS, Terrell Manning and DeDe Lattimore. And brought 5'6" KR Trindon Holliday in for a tryout. I know he's just strictly a returner, but I'm really surprised that he doesn't have a job. 4 return TDs in basically 2 seasons so far. He had a job up until yesterday.
  7. I wonder if the Bears have the balls to keep playing the young guys. Frankly, Bostic has been the best LB on the team so far (though Briggs has been decent after the opener). Fuller has been the best defensive player period. Ego has been better every game, and was a stud on Sunday. Vereen has done well when he's in there...certainly better than Frey at nickel and McCray at FS, albeit in limited action. Play Louis-Jean in the nickel with Jennings going inside. Play Vereen at FS if Conte is out. Ego should get over 1/2 the snaps at DT. Sutton should continue to play a large role. Slowly take snaps from Allen and give them to Young and/or Washington.

  9. I've never really understood the need to differentiate between kick and punt returners. I think the skill-set is a lot more similar than NFL teams seem to insist on. Completely agree with this. I understand what Banedon is saying regarding the value of cleanly fielding a punt but the actual return shouldn't be that different. Yeah, there are some people that just cannot catch punts. Then to have to do so with people bearing down on you, think fast enough to make a move, and get upfield. I can see someone that returns kickoffs not being able to return punts. But if you can return punts, you can return kickoffs.
  10. IDK. It's not like he's getting very many touches. Not a part of the offensive gameplan. Bears don't force punts, so he never returns them. He might be cut once Wilson comes back. Can't be trusted to take a knee. I actually cheer when the team kicks the ball out of the back of the endzone against the Bears. Hell, I did it with Hester half the time.
  11. I'm guessing Sherrick McManis is healthy. Rough luck though...forced a fumble and then gets released. First turnover he's been involved in (0 INTs, 0 FF, 0 FR going into Sunday) in 19 games playing over 55% of the time.
  12. Haven't they also had a punt blocked? They have been bad on special teams this year. Maybe they aren't awful on coverage, but special teams issues tend to bleed into one another, considering they are coached by the same man. They are going to be punting from deep in their own zone and that is going to be an issue this week. Yes, they have been bad on ST this year. And they are actually good in coverage (far from not awful) when they actually try to cover, though I guess the fact that they just let a ball sit there doesn't really count FOR them. But I don't know that there's any proof to special teams issues "bleeding" into other areas. Nor do I know how you know for a fact the Bears will be punting from deep in their own zone this week.
  13. If you need a laugh... Walter mock picks- 11: Ronald Darby CB 43: Owamagbe Odighizuwa DE (Michael Bennett/Shaq Thompson/McKinney still available) 75: Jordan Richards S BONUS: If you're wondering who Charlie picked for the Bears in his mock- 14: Landon Collins S 46: Shaq Thompson OLB 78: Cedric Reed DE Charlie has a clue. That would be a helluva draft. That would be an amazing draft but if Shaq Thompson is available at 46, something must have gone seriously wrong with him. Agreed. Though with Thompson, McKinney, Striker, Kendricks, and Perryman (maybe even Beasley) all looking like 4-3 LBs at the next level, one of those guys is likely to be there at 46. Thompson is the least likely, unless we count Beasley.
  14. This is the first game I haven't felt confident that the Bears would get a win. I thought the Bears would have too much offense for Buffalo. I was right about the 49ers and Jets games. I thought the Bears were going in the right direction with GB going in the wrong direction and the Bears were at home. I thought the Bears were simply a better team than Carolina. And while I do think the Bears are a better team than the Falcons, Atlanta has a huge homefield advantage. Maybe top 3 along with Seattle and Denver/New Orleans. Atlanta will throw a ton. Julio Jones leads the league in catches. Be interested to see how Fuller does against him. Completely different type of matchup from Benjamin, who Fuller did well against. I'm actually not too worried about Hester on special teams. The Bears have only allowed anything on a play they just sat and watched the ball on. They've been fine covering kicks, when not hitting a guy who calls a fair catch or before he gets the ball. The Bears are 7th best in KOR avg allowed. They would be 6th best in PR avg allowed if they downed the ball on Sunday and you take away that 79 of 129 yards they've allowed this year. The biggest ST issue has been penalties on returns and poor field position.
  15. Heh. Was but still won because Morris did nothing.

  17. 6/120 for Maeada would probably mean no Lester. I'd probably pay him that rather than 6/150 for Lester (both highest of ends for each).
  18. What I saw was the Bears finding success with Forte over and over again in the first half, then Carolina making adjustments to stop Forte from having that success, and then the Bears just throwing their hands up when the Forte gameplan stopped working. Carolina lost one of their best defenders in the first half, and Trestman didn't seem interested in exposing that weakness at all. Every time Jeffery was fed the ball, he made things happen. I'm speechless that the Bears didn't open up the field more against this team, especially in the second half when it was clear that Carolina changed their game plan to stop Forte. Yep, 2 pro bowl WRs and the best TE in the league thru the first 4 weeks and they combined to catch fewer balls than Forte? Carolina blitzed all day too, so it was single coverage on the outside for the most part. For the first time, I'm listening to the #fireTrestman people. Not giving up on him just yet, but if the defense isn't going to be any good, and the special teams aren't going to be any good, and his only value comes on offense where the team is underachieving....then what's he doing for this team?
  19. Its always been interesting to me to see what gets more value. Do u knock a team for losing head to head to a good team OR give them credit for losing to a better team than the team that beat them lost to?
  20. Also was it me or were Slauson and DelaPuente terrible yesterday? And Danny McCray is the worst player on the roster. Vereen needs to get some snaps at FS, especially if Conte is out.
  21. I don't see how anyone can think Cutler will change his play at this point in his career. I don't think he necessarily needs to change. He just needs to stop being so unlucky. He makes 98% good throws. But the 2% seem to come at the worst possible time. I don't know if he needs to focus more ir what, but its time to stop pretending he's not a huge factor in losing games. And yeah UK the playcalling has been terrible the 2nd half of really the last 3 games (and the first half of the first 2 games). I feel Trestman doesn't play to win rather plays to not lose. No reason this team should have a 3 point half of football. .....yet they've had 1 in every game so far.
  22. Yeah that's a throw that every QB in the league makes. That was blatant PI and it wasn't called maybe because it hit the defender in the head. But blown call. Not a bad throw or bad decision. That being said, it seems like the "Cutler apologists" are just as bad as the Cutler haters. Hell I'm one of the former. You can say Cutler made 1-2 bad throws/decisions but he needs to make 0. Maybe not 0. But his mistakes need to not end up in the other team's hands. He can miss low to an open man in zone. He can miss on an open deep pass. He can miss high on the sidelines. But he can't keep missing and making poor decions in the middle of the field. Those always get picked. Five of 6 INTs have been bad throws or decisions between the hashes.
  23. So how good is Iowa. Only B1G team I haven't seen. Assuming IU will lose either way on the road. But they are going to have to win at Iowa, Michigan or Rutgers to get top a bowl game.
  24. Cutler threw that 1 bad pass with favorable field position and a chance to ice the game. The Bears would have overcome the special teams play, missed FG, and Forte's fumble would probably have not happened in a protect the lead situation rather than trying to win the game with a score. This loss isn't on Jay completely, but his mistakes are very untimely.
  25. You'd think one of the 2 top 7 WRs in the league or the best TE thru the first 4 weeks would be open at least 50% of the time
