  1. The pitching staff is severely underachieving. More had to be expected out of Wood, Maddux, Rusch (since move to pen), Wuertz and even the guys that aren't up anymore, Wellemeyer, Leicester, Bartosh, etc. This is a not a 4.37 ERA pitching staff, talent-wise. The offense, just isn't that good. Burnitz was an average at best corner OF, if all went right. Patterson and Holla/Dubois was destined to be below average. Barrett has flaws, and the bench is just inexpicably bad. Overall, I would say that this team is more "not that good" than underachieving. The fact is every post, every publication and prognostication read, "......if the Cubs can stay healthy". When you build a team full of injury questions and guys who are below average, you can't be surprised when they get injured.
  2. I'm sorry, but that's a pair of blatantly racist statements. Are the Giants' American hitters not brain-dead?
  3. Man, I was thinking with this lineup, Seo must have really bad L/R splits. Well, he does! Righties hit .301 against him with an .840 OPS, while LHs only hit .242 with a .700 OPS. Absolutely no reason for this lineup to be on the field today.
  4. I actually think Edmonds gets in with a few more years of healthy good baseball. Like it or not, the defense matters. No way Edmonds doesn't get in if he has 2000+ hits and 400+ HRs. He is widely considered (rightfully or not) the best defensive CF ever to play the game. The best defenders are in the Hall at nearly every position. I think Chipper has a better resume, but Edmonds has a better chance to get in.
  5. 5 2/3. Jason Michaels ends it. My fantasy team thanks you JM. Now get some runs off Sheets.
  6. You don't need him anyway, Girlfriend! Where's the snapping fingers/neck rolling icon, when you need one?
  7. Well, that was a positive inning. The Cubs got 3, Mets just 2. IF the Cubs score 1 more than the Mets in each inning for the rest of the game, it will at least go into extras. How's that for optimism?
  8. And this would matter in this game, how?
  9. Man, give me a team of my favorite players, and I have a cheap and productive team. Wright would be on there. He's everything I thought David Kelton could be in 2000.

  11. If you notice.....the people saying the game and season were over aren't here anymore. There are 2 sides to everything. The people in this thread now are the people who don't make reactionary posts.
  12. Too bad we didn't get a Glavine/Maddux matchup. 2 former great pitchers who stink now. Boy, if Rusch coulda laid down a bunt. If Derrek had come through as he has so many times this year.
  13. Yeah, Prior gave up 6 last time too, he's not worth anything. It's one thing to be upset at the occurences in this game...it's another to say something outlandish. He's a defense away from still having a 1-1 tie game.
  14. Cubs could be behind Milwaukee.....Mil-freakin-waukee
  15. We'll always have team chemistry, though!
  16. http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?searchtype=address&country=US&addtohistory=&location=kzGH7ENuAI2Oo7A7usaFRnQF2AKpn6NRqaX82gydBqaxR4jYFvyF%2fz%2bkfmC0Df93XS6n%2bQlEsJywz2BOBs4is5zYLHiPwNzkYABf9Trb67c%3d The man's so good, they named in my area after him!
  17. The moves are probably done. We probably won't hear about them til gametime though.
  18. What convinces you that Speier wouldn't be any good? I haven't heard anything about him, good or bad. I don't think he's the brightest of men. I've heard him talk, and there's something I just don't trust about the guy.
  19. I don't think you can be motivated to be selective at the plate. Either you have it or you don't....the Cubs don't.
  20. I'm guessing Brenly wouldn't be an "interim" being that he's a broadcaster and the Cubs would have to find another color man to finish out the season. I'm convinced Chris Speier would not be a good manager. I'd probably go with Gary Matthews or Dick Pole as a lame duck manager.
  21. You're right - it's time for me to get off that topic now. It's water under the bridge. It just upsets me that the Cubs had a chance to get this guy twice - after the 2002 season, and again after the 2004 season, and both times couldn't (or wouldn't) close the deal. I don't know how much of a shot this had of happening, but the only non-move that I keep wishing would have happened is signing Tejada a couple years ago. Alex Gonzalez's presence shouldn't have been a determining factor in getting one of the game's best SS. Of course, no Tejada may have meant no Derrek Lee/Choi trade.
  22. It's getting to the point where I think the Braves have some sort of magic potion where every player they touch turns to greatness. The Braves scouting and development people are so excellent, that I would hesitate to pick up anyone that they feel they can do without.
  23. I think he has Hall of Fame talent and numbers, but I don't know about the longevity. He's starting to become oft-injured. At 33 years old, I don't see it getting much better. He will finish with few than 110 games this year, after going on the DL for the first time ever last year. I think if he can stay healthy enough to get to 450 HRs (130 or so away), then he will be in. As 1908 said, being back at 3B helps. Being a switch hitter helps also.
  24. Thanks for fielding (pun intended) our questions, Mr. Sisk. I notice an improved BB/SO rate from you this season. Would you say that has been the biggest reason for the success you've had this year? You have played all over the US (from Texas, went to U of New Mexico, Edinburg, Peoria, Tennessee, Florida, West VA.....what was your favorite place to play from a scenic point of view? Lastly, how happy are you that Nomar is out of town, and you get to get back on the field everyday? :D
  25. If Seattle gets Nomar, I'd rather set my sights on a Lugo trade or simply hand Cedeno the job. The Cubs would probably give the position to Neifi though. :pukel:
