  1. Link. Thanks for the plugs, Vance. Overall, this camp is the most businesslike one I've seen in a few years. I know it's very early, but there is a quiet confidence building here. Now, as Soul says, they have to go out and do it when it counts. Just speculating, but I think everyone finally knows their roles. No more trying to make someone that's not capable be a top of the order hitter. No more primadonna star players taking all the headlines. Dusty has basically kept his mouth closed and has given in to playing the kids. I think with the uncertainty surrounding this team after October (Baker, Wood, Maddux, Lee, Ramirez, Pierre, Walker, could all be gone)....they know that it's now or never for this current group of guys.
  2. I think the Yanks were afraid to risk Jeter's health with runners bearing down on him from behind when turning the doubleplay. It's a long shot that something would happen to Jeter, but I wouldn't risk $19M if I didn't have to. ARod is an immensely better defensive SS than Jeter, but I have no problem with them leaving Jeter at SS. I probably would have done the same in that situation.
  3. C- Piazza 1B- D Lee 2B- Utley SS- Tejada 3B- Ensberg OF- V Wells OF- C Floyd OF- Pierre U- J Kent SP- Colon SP- Haren RP- Hoffman RP- Cordero P- Jenks P- Capuano P- Bonderman
  4. Has Prior had any prolonged stretch (like more than a month) where he pitched like he did in 03? 7 of 8 quality starts to begin 2005 (month and a half). On his way to another before the line drive. This after a great final month in 04. Yeah what TT said.
  5. With all apologies to Gonzalez, Gates, Ditka, and Winslow.....Davis is possibly the best athlete in the history of the TE position with those numbers. WOW!
  6. I'd rather be a 10 seed than an 8-9. A 7-seed shouldn't be too much tougher (if at all) than an 8 or 9, plus you get a 2nd seed in round 2 rather than one of the dominant #1's. As much parity as there has been this year, I think this is gonna be the toughest crop of #1s in some time. Duke, UConn, Nova and Memphis are tough.
  7. I agree - I want to keep Delmon as long as possible. However - in our league we can only keep players in our minors for one year - or until they make the major league club. I'm REALLY hoping Delmon makes it, but I know as of right now its 50/50. he SHOULD make it at some point to the majors this season, barring injury or total stupidity on the Rays' part. Problem is he's blocked pretty badly. The D'Rays have Travis Lee and Aubrey Huff at 1b. In the outfield, they have Baldelli, Crawford, Gomes, Danny Bautista, Damon Hollins and Joey Gathright. I suppose they could still stick Young in RF and go with Gomes and Huff as a DH platoon, but why start Young's option clock with all the blockage unless he's playing everyday? Huff has been moved to 3B. So, that should put Lee at 1B (I don't know if Gomes can play there), Gomes at DH, and Delmon in RF. So, everyone should be able to play. I'm guessing Gathright gets traded before the season.
  8. I don't see him going anywhere. I wouldn't pay big money for a kicker either. Vinateri is gonna cost big money. I'd rather spend it on someone who can score or prevent TDs. Are you advocating spending big on John Shoop? He can prevent touchdowns with the best of them. Good point. I think he and Gary Crowton would get huge dollars for their ability to prevent TDs.

  10. If Paul Davis shows up, they can win it. Ager was awesome yesterday. Brown is probably the toughest matchup in the Big Ten with his shooting and athletic ability. Davis showed up for parts of the 2nd half, when MSU was down 16. But he was nowhere to be found (somewhat due to weak foul calls :D ) most of the game. It would help MSU if Neitzel would at least look in the direction of the basket too.
  11. My bad. You did say that. But you also said Pujols is "no slouch" in the field, when he is in fact, quite slouchy. I've seen defensive metrics all over the map in regards to Pujols defense. I consider him around average. I'll accept "around" average. If you take the 30 starting 1B in baseball, my guess is Pujols would be around the 13-17th best defensively. Probably not quite a slouch, but he's nowhere near a great fielder.
  12. I just came in to see if anyone posted this yet. Fortunately, we have depth? :? We had three guys battling for the #5 spot. Now. they're battling for 4 & 5. Not a good sign. And Sean Burnett seems to be inserting himself into the battle. So, he wins the 4th spot, and Tom Gorrezelany (sp?) comes out of nowhere and wins the fifth spot!! And all left Starting rotation! :-: That would make Jacque Jones completely useless vs. the Pirates. I'd go Perez, Duke, Maholm, Burnett, Snell. But Santos will win one of the spots. Probably looking at a rotation of Perez, Duke, Maholm, Santos, and Snell. I'm guessing Burnett and Gorrezelany start in AAA, mainly because they have plenty of options. I think Burnett will start at AAA cause the team wants to make sure he's healthy. And, I think Gorz has a total of 20 innings above AA. He needs a bit more expiereince against better hitters first. He got rocked in the majors last September. But, both will be here by the end of the July, I think. We actually have some pretty damn good young pitching. If you guys get healthy, you'll have some tradeable commodities to add the offense you need to go with Bay.
  13. My bad. You did say that. But you also said Pujols is "no slouch" in the field, when he is in fact, quite slouchy.
  14. Do the Reds and Pirates really each have three lefties in their rotation? That's not exactly common. Who are they? 5 different lefties will start for Pitt this year. Duke, Maholm, O. Perez, Gorezellany, and Burnett. Although, probably only 3 will be there opening day. Cincy has Milton, Dave Williams, and Claussen. A who's who of LH pitching......or not.
  15. You can when he's being compared to Arod. Pujols had an .008 advantage in OPS. ARod was the best defensive SS in the game, now is one of the better defensive 3B in the game. The difference between their defense is much greater than the difference in their offense.
  16. Yeah he is. I heard a ton about how Pujols was a potential gold glover at 1B. He's not nearly that good defensively. I would rate him slightly below average just based on watching him play.
  17. Again, usually the case is wait on a TE, because it's not necessarily an impact position. But there are a few this year that are potential pro-bowlers at their positions. There will be TE's available in the 2nd or 3rd that are servicable, and should be decent, but guys like Marcedes Lewis can be great. That being said, I really like those CBs. Either one would be a nice pickup, but I don't think there's much dropoff if any from those guys and a guy like Blackwell from BC who may be there at the end of Rd. 2.
  18. The bubble? That's madness. Uh, yeah, I'm pretty sure a Top 25 ranking means you are safely off the bubble. If they lose the last 2, I'm sure they won't be ranked. Of course, they'll still have a top 30 RPI and 19 wins going into the tourney, and a top 5 SOS.

  20. Good for Blasko and Connolly, possibly the best slider and changeup, respectively, in the entire organization. As has been mentioned, Blasko had the arm before going down to be a pretty good ML reliever. As for Veal, I don't know about him in Daytona. I'm sure he'll do well in a pitcher's league. But I think he could have absolutely dominated the MWL. A great year in the FSL and Veal will vault onto most top 100 lists next year.
  21. Kip Wells likely done for the season with a blood clot in his arm. Rough start for the Pirates.
  22. Hidalgo just signed a minor league deal with the Orioles.
  23. That sucks. He was one of my sleepers in that park. Of course, he wasn't very good in Petco, so.............
  24. I wouldn't count on winning one of those - not saying they can't or won't - just that losing both is a possibility. They better win the Purdue game because Michigan will be tough. Agreed. Purdue has been playing better since IU saw them last. And that will be tough on their senior (do they have any?) day. But that's a must win. Can't afford another bad loss. I'm actually not too stressed about the Michigan game. Davis owns Amaker.
