  1. Why would you think that? I think he's their #3-4 starter next year. Approaching arbitration and selling high? Yes. I guess so. But I don't see the Cubs being interested.

  3. Hermida is no slouch. Dude had a .398 career OBP in the minors. He's shown flashes of what his power could become. Last year he hit .296/.369/.501. A .205 ISOP is pretty solid. And as has been mentioned, he plays in a huge home park. He had a .584 OPS in Florida this year. For his career, his OPS is over 100 points lower at home.
  4. Yeah, I go OL in the 09 draft, unless there is a real good pass rushing DE (which there are a lot of in this draft), DT, or safety (again a lot of talent in this area of the draft). I'd be pretty tempted to go OL again in the 2nd, but more inclined to get the best defensive player available. The Bears could really use help at all positions on the D at this point. QB would be my 3rd round pick. Like Goony said, Orton/Hanie/Rookie isn't bad. I don't see the need for a veteran backup unless you have the talent of a team like Dallas. And I don't see the point in paying a lot of money for a backup when you have cheap production there as it is.
  5. Orton definitely could be a legit NFL QB. Heck, he probably already is. I think Grossman is a legit NFL QB too, though. The key with Orton will be eliminating the bad games when defenses put a lot of heat on him and good designed coverage schemes. I still think the Bears need to draft a QB in the 1st half of the 09 draft, though. Maybe not 1st or 2nd round like we all suspected, but definitely by the 3rd. Grossman will likely be gone, and Hanie isn't a legit #2.
  6. Most likely Cubs/Red Sox trade would involve Derek Lee. Lee probably wouldn't waive his NTC to go there though. Red Sox could go hard after a 1B this year, unless they think JD can play there, then they can get an OF.
  7. I would love to see what Hermida could do in Wrigley for 81 games. The Cubs haven't had a legit LH power threat since.....Billy Williams? Unless you count the 1 good year each from Henry Rodriguez, Mark Bellhorn (switch), and Rick Wilkins. Hermida has 30-40 HR potential. Shawn Green jumped from 16 to 35 HRs at 25, this should be the time Hermida makes a similar jump.
  8. My undefeated team crapped the bed this week. I was 6-0, but my team of Campbell (McNabb on Bye), Gore, Forte, Jennings, Wayne, Colston (Desean Jackson on Bye, McGahee on bench), and Cooley all stunk.
  9. HA! I had 5 starters on Byes this week and outscored the league by 35 points going into the Monday night game! On my bench were starters Donovan McNabb, Michael Turner, Roddy White, Anquan Boldin, and Steve Breaston. Also benched was Kellen Winslow Jr. who played, but is nursing his gonorrhea. Replacing them were Kyle Orton, D'Angelo Williams, Chad Johnson, Greg Camarillo, and Owen Daniels. 3 of those 5 were undrafted (start a flex WR/TE, so no TE is necessary). My only regulars were Steven Jackson, Robbie Gould, and Chargers defense.
  10. So yeah, I was wrong. Happily. I counted on Vasher and Tillman missing the game. I counted on the defense not being able to stop Peterson and Berrian having a real good game. I counted on special teams making a good showing. What I didn't count on though was another excellent offensive performance. I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop on the O-line and Orton to drop along with it. Defense has to get better, though. With a bye week and 2 weak offensive teams (Lions, Titans) following, the Bears should have their chance to turn it around in a hurry. Goal for next 2 weeks is to get everybody healthy. I think if Harris, Tillman and Vasher are near 100%, this defense can get back to what the talent dictates it should be.
  11. Hermida's #1 comparable on baseballreference.com, thru age 23 is Shawn Green. He was 24 this season. If Shawn Green is a good comparison (and I think he is due to size/skill level), then Hermida is due for a huge breakout next year at 25. If it takes Ceda and an arm for him, I'd do it 10 times out of 10. This is exactly the type of move the Cubs should make. Hermida would provide young, cheap production. For a team that has high priced players throughout the roster, cheap production is a welcomed addition.
  12. Yes, end the game now.
  13. Rookies kick ass!
  14. Yeah, for having Bears D/ST in fantasy!
  15. What year is this? Bears offense is good enough to take advantage of the short field. Bears special teams has been near the bottom in return yardage.
  16. Uh, sweet!
  17. Only Drew Brees (on a record pace) and Kurt Warner (with a 450+ yard game) have more passing yards than Orton since Week 3.
  18. I'm so glad Pittsburgh is holding onto a perceived rivalry from the 1970s and every single Dallas Cowboys game is televised here.
  19. Wonderful start.
  20. And in a kick to the groin of all the questionable players that will be involved in the Vikings pass game. Berrian and Sidney Rice will play. Vasher, Tillman, and D. Manning will all watch.
  21. So, I offered the following trades. Michael Turner and D'Angelo Williams for Frank Gore Michael Turner, D'Angelo Williams, and Anquan Boldin for Frank Gore, Colston, and Roy Williams (before the trade to Dallas) These to a guy that was starting Cedric Benson at RB. He declines both trades, and proceeds to accept Willis McGahee for Roy Williams, after the trade of Williams to Dallas. Another team who has Barber, A Peterson (keeper), and Forte as his RBs, he can only start 2. His QBs are Kitna and Jeff Garcia. He offered Barber to anyone in the league for a good QB. I offer him McNabb and Chargers D for Barber. He turns it down to accept Rivers, Ernest Graham and Titans D for Barber, Garcia and Derrick Mason. I offered the other guy in that trade Michael Turner and Steve Breaston for Rivers and Ernest Graham (I was going to turn around and trade Rivers or McNabb for Barber), before he turned it down to accept that trade. Another team traded Reggie Bush, Torry Holt and Brandon Stokely for Ronnie Brown and Laverneus Coles. I offer him the Chargers D for Devin Hester. He declines and counters with Hester and Randle El for Anquan Boldin. Edit: this is a PPR league. Bush is the league's top scorer.
  22. Manning and Roethlisberger have had their bye weeks already. I'd go after their backups. Aaron Rodgers has been one of the best fantasy QBs in the league this year. If you can get him, you'll be in great shape.
  23. He was joking, playing off my last post in this thread. I don't think he was joking. And he did say that he didn't think Santana was "A LOT" better than Peavy. And he's right.
  24. Seems pointless from the Padres point of view. 1 year of Harden. They'd be better off getting a couple young pitchers that can be in their rotation for 4-5 years. And it's not like Harden would be necessary to include for salary purposes. Peavy's contract is very affordable for what he gives you, which is a top 3 pitcher in the game today.
  25. No, I couldn't trade Tulo for better than the 9th pick. But the guy who wants to trade me has an amazing team. He has Arod, Teixeira, M. Cabrera, J Reyes, and Holliday. He also has Webb and Lincecum. He can only keep 5 of those guys, so he wants the #1 pick so he can essentially keep 6 players. I declined the trade because I figured I could just draft whoever he drops from Cabrera and Lincecum, who are both better roto style players than Webb. Plus, by getting Webb now, I would have to cut one of my keepers right now which would be either Matt Kemp or Carlos Quentin, who also both finished ahead of Webb in the roto rankings even w/ Quentin missing the final month.
