  1. TF are they doing? I'd rather see the creamsickle shits than these XFL throwbacks.
  2. I'm in on Kesler. Not really sure the Hawks need him to win another Cup, but it certainly wouldn't hurt. I think it would take a lot less than people think to acquire him. It seems to me that trades for stars aren't taking as much to get as they used to. The Iginla trade wasn't a huge haul from Pittsburgh to Carolina last year.
  3. I never understood the whole, "don't swing at the first pitch" theory. I understand if you've never seen the guy, but it's not like the pitcher doesn't previously exist. You know what you're getting into with most pitchers. You know if a guy throws 88 or 96. I don't agree with taking a strike just for the sake of taking the 1st pitch. If a guy throws some hittable junk up there, Javy should kill it regardless if it is the 1st or 12th pitch. That being said, I think I'm going to tweet Javy and ask him if he would like to get my wife pregnant. I love this man.
  4. This time last year, I would have voted Cabrera a long time ago. What a difference a year makes. He went from dominating starter in AA to 21 2/3 ok innings in the majors with control problems to back in AA as a dominating starter, (much less of a feat when you're there for the 4th season in a row) and still couldn't get over the AAA hump. He also wasn't able to contibute to the ML bullpen. He's in the Jackson, Vitters, Olt realm for me of guys who are done as prospects, IMO. They all still have places in the organization, and may get a shot to compete, but anything you get out of them at this point has to be considered a bonus. I'd have all 4 between 25-40 (Jackson much closer to 40, if at all).
  5. They're pulling me back in. Where has this Sheehey been all year? Beating Ohio state without Vonleh is an accomplishment. But it means nothing unless they beat Nebraska and probably beat Illinois/Purdue and then Wisconsin next weekend.
  6. Welcome to your senior year, Will Sheehey.
  7. Contreras, Torres, Skulina..... for the second time in a row.
  8. Me too. I have a hard time believing that you can't correct a guy's ability to catch a football. It's the easiest thing to do on a football field. He can run, get open, decent blocker. But then again, he has been cut by several times in his career. So, you were in favor of keeping Kellen Davis then? Onubun is a 3rd TE at best. Not a starter like Davis was. Davis was also bad at everything. Completely different situation.
  9. Me too. I have a hard time believing that you can't correct a guy's ability to catch a football. It's the easiest thing to do on a football field. He can run, get open, decent blocker. But then again, he has been cut by several times in his career.
  10. Don't really get Hayden and Rosario coming back. Hopefully, neither got guaranteed money and can be cut if they don't win backup jobs. But I'd rather go with younger backups and try to develop some talent for a change.
  11. I feel like the whole Big Ten has lost close games this year. Not just games that are close down the stretch, but I feel like there have been several losses this year where teams have had either double digit 2nd half leads or 3 possession leads in the final 60-120 seconds and have lost this year. Iowa, Ohio St, IU, Illinois....hell, Penn St would be a bubble team if they could have held on to close games late.
  12. They would have to swap first rounders this year and give up at least a first rounder next year, possibly a 2nd rounder also if they made the playoffs. Absolutely not happening. I know this gets brought up a lot...but I watched SC play 6 or 7 times over the last 2 yrs. I didn't get it. I understand the athleticism, I understand all the double or triple teaming, still whenever I watch he was unproductive. So if the Bears move up and draft him should I just not watch to help the cause? Yeah, don't watch. He was a beast in 2012. He frankly took it easy in 2013. He would have been the #1 pick last year if he was allowed to come out, so I think he coasted this season worrying about staying healthy and not losing a ton of money. I don't really have a problem with that to be honest.
  13. That's a great read. I've read both the CB ones and they were pretty good also.
  14. $1.5 m Have to draft his replacement this May. Naw. I don't think so. They re-signed Boggs too. He'll be the back-up. I think the defensive needs and back-up needs at RB, TE, WR and maybe even QB trump backup C.
  15. IU is probably finishing this season with a .500 or worse record. 15-12. Remaining schedule of home vs. Iowa, Ohio St, and Nebraska, and @ Michigan. Even if they manage to win 1 of those home games, at most it will only be 1, meaning 16-15 regular season and then there will be a likely 1-and done B1G tourney. Maybe my expectations were too high. I know they lost 4 1,000 point scorers, but they returned a guy who would also get to 1,000 points, a McDonald's All American PG, who is among the conferences leading scorers, and had a top 5-10 recruiting class, that includes a lottery pick and possible top 7 pick. I knew shooting would be bad, but it hasn't been completely debilitating. I guess I expected better, maybe its just me though.
  16. Forget the 40, the 10-yard split is even more insane (and more valuable for a DE). 1.58!? Clowney probably wouldn't get embarassed in press coverage vs. Sammy Watkins.
  17. Keep an eye on RaShede Hageman. He'll have a huge combine. Former basketball player, 6'6", 318 and supposedly has over a 30" vertical and runs well under 5.0 in the 40. Also, there's a rumor the Bears really like Aaron Donald. But with the rumors the Bears and Melton have been constantly talking and have mutual interest, I'd imagine a 3-tech DT won't be a priority if Melton signs. That'd eliminate Donald and Jernigan. I'd say it'll come down to Ealy, Hageman, or Calvin Pryor. Eliminated Mosley because they had 2 rookies fail as starters last year...do they want to do that again? That'd be 3 of the top 4 picks in 2 years on LBs. Gilbert is possible, but I don't see Emery valuing CB enough to take one at 14. I think Clinton-Dix is out as they want Conte to be able to compete. Both Conte and HCD are FS only. Conte can't compete with a 1st round pick that talented.
  18. Damn. That's scary. Hope he resumes his baseball career, but more hopeful for a normal/full life.
  19. No, basically my point is. No team with good players would give them legitimate chances to be everyday or probably even platoon players. Which I believe would prevent people from thinking they are the 10th and 15th best prospect in a good minor league system. They both would be written off as 4A players in an organization with a good ML team. Those are not top 15 type talents.
  20. Can't dismiss anyone with the ML team being so bad. But that might be Vitters (and Olt's) saving grace at this point. They're on a bad team with a chance to get some ML ABs and they used to be able to hit at one point. But yeah, if the Cubs had anyone else more sure of providing league average production at LF and 3B, then they should be dismissed completely. I think people are boosting both based on the fact they have a chance in this organization when they wouldn't for most other teams.
  21. You'd think something would get thru at some point. If Latvia scores the next goal, it would be a miracle considering they can't even get a SOG.
  22. Signed as a UDFA with someone, but never went to camp.
  23. I think we're overplaying the strength of that depth if we're just going to say somebody like Jimenez can't crack the top 20. All of these guys are either unproven or what they have proven isn't all that impressive. Exactly. This system is more top-heavy than "deep", IMO. The top 10 has guys who all could conceivably be above average regulars or better, who have produced at high A or above. But the rest of the system is like everyone else's. Low upside guys close to the majors (Hendricks). Recent draft picks with talent that haven't put it together. Injured arms with talent. Raw guys without much experience.
  24. I think the hybrid defense the Bears are going to is basically going to allow Emery (a scout turned GM) to use his ability to scout players of all types and then find a way to fit them in the defense. Basically, the need to draft a 6'2", 295lb 3-technique, or a DE that has to be 6'5", 270, or a MLB that has to be Brian Urlacher or fail. Instead of drafting a 3-4 OLB and making him a DE (McClellin), the team can stand him up like a 3-4 OLB, give him the same responsibilities he's used to, but play a typical 4-3 elsewhere on the DL and behind him. In this draft especially, after Clowney and Ealy, there's not much that would "fit" in the Lovie Smith 4-3 at DE. After those 2 you have a bunch of undersized DEs. So, if the Bears want to improve the edge rush, they better get Ealy or find a way to fit one of those other guys. Basically this philosophy opens up the full draft pool as a "fit" for the defense.
  25. Vitters was 25 on my post season list. I don't see any reason for me personally to move him up. Haven't heard a compelling reason why I should. Pineyro, Contreras, and my 3rd vote is up for sell. Someone sell me on my 3rd, Vitters included.
