  1. I hate to overanalyze a simple statement like this, but does anyone else interpret this to mean that perhaps Jim doesn't know other teams' systems as well as he should? I heard the interview and the statement came in the context of evaluating Nolasco and Pinto, where the Cubs and Marlins had pretty much the same opinion/rating of the two. i think he was just trying to be complementary. You've been defending Hendry a lot lately...............are you sure you're feeling ok? :)
  2. Wow the Tribe made Wicky sit around and wait for Hoffman's decision and then resigned him in about 2 hours
  3. What are they going to do about Javy Lopez? Who's their DH?
  4. One of the yahoo's on Baseball Tonight thought Soriano would end up as the Dodgers 2nd baseman.
  5. If US presidents lost wars as frequently as Cubs GM lose games, I'd be pretty upset. But by and large, US politicians have been far more successful running this country, its states and cities than any Cubs GM I've ever met. Seems like we're having a little trouble with the one we're in now and their was that scuffle over in Vietnam?
  6. I heard Murph spouting off today about how it is ok to trade prospects - paraphrasing " Hey sure we traded Dontrelle Willis but we got D Lee for him so it worked out great!" Now THAT is a moran!
  7. I don't know that hot is a good word but she is kind of cute.
  8. I don't watch espnews that much but I saw her briefly on there today - did she get demoted? I haven't seen her on the big network in a while - that's a good thing I think.
  9. Abreu + Utley wouldn't do it for you? :D I'd even throw in Neifi and Jose to make that deal happen :)
  10. Yes. If he gets enough ab's he might hit some homers but i would be suprised if he ever hits over 250 again.
  11. Came across this looking at the Burnett thread. Wonder who?? http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5138082
  12. Found it - he had a forearm injury. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2065987
  13. I like Wilkerson also - if my memory serves me didn't he play all year with some kind of injury that caused his #'s to be down a little?
  14. Worst Case Scenario: Hendry goes into the season with Cedeno at SS and Neifi at 2b. Cedeno struggles out of the gate so Dusty decides to move Neifi over to SS and start Macias everyday at 2b. With Dusty this is very possible. I won't stand for either of the two being starters. What would you do burn down Wrigley or something of that nature?? No, I will boycott the Cubs. Do you think they'll notice?

  16. I doubt the Dodgers impressed him with their plans as much as they did with their checkbook.
  17. So my wife saw me laughing at this thread, and wanted to know what Pierre looked like. I did a google image search, and I found this: http://www.heritagekonpa.com/images/Juan%20Pierre%20of%20Florida%20Marlin.jpg Very nice porn star stache!!
  18. Wow you gave up on a year that hasn't even started a long time ago? You must be a sad puppy!
  19. You're right - it was up about 10 minutes ago too :?
  20. Pretty sure he just said it to get that moran Murph to shut his pie hole.
  21. We have a $100 million payroll - you can't wave a white flag with that kind of payroll. I don't see the squad as shot in the foot for 2006 - it's the 2nd of December 2005 :?
  22. Sorry.............read the entire post..........that's the only source you sited..........never mentioned anything about living and dying.
  23. Honestly, how do we know Hendry showed no interest in Giles? If this was reported, or Hendry commented I apologize, this is an honest question. Just because it was written about doesn't mean he wasn't interested. Hendry could have called Giles and Giles could have simply said, "Hey, I appreciate the offer but I'm not interested in moving to Chicago." I don't know. But, since we hear just about every little tidbit of this or that, I don't know why we wouldn't have at least heard that Hendry would be slightly interested. Maybe I'm way off base. Rumor Central on ESPN never listed the Cubs next to Brian Giles name as an interested party. If I was Brian Giles, would I want to come to the Cubs? Maybe not. They've already got their token playoff appearance this decade. But at the same time, Giles will be hurting his own lifetime stats playing at Petco, and I'm not sure San Diego will see a pennant again this decade. We hear that Hendry is interested in Mench, Soriano, Bradley, Pierre, Furcal, Eyre, Howry and just about every other free agent, but nary a word about Brian Giles. We know Brian Giles is a base clogger. We know he can't catch the ball as good as Neifi or Bradley or Furcal. We also heard Hendry say that he didn't want to get into a bidding war for Giles, yet he's in the middle of a bidding war for Furcal for more years and now possibly more money. Giles has always killed the ball in Wrigley. He'd get to do that 81 times a year, and when he isn't home, he's spending most of his time hitting in GAP, PNC, Minute Maid, Miller and the new Busch. Offense city. And he would have gotten to hit right between Lee and Aramis. Maybe he didn't have fond memories of playing with Aramis. I'm not against a Furcal signing by any means. I would have loved to have both, but money probably wasn't there for both. In that case, make offers for both players. Go as high as you can for each one and the one who signs first is who you get. I don't know that Giles didn't want to come here and I don't know that Hendry didn't want him here. I do know that when a team wants a guy, you usually hear about it somewhere. The Cubs may be getting played in this whole Furcal fiasco. He may end up driving up Atlanta's price so he can go back home. All that time and effort for a guy who had no intentions of coming here. All I was asking was for the same attention to Giles. If neither came, so be it. At least we knew he tried. Please tell me we aren't really basing this whole debate on Rumour Central from ESPN.com. Also an honest question.
  24. Mike North - one of the few guys that can make Dusty sound smart by comparison
