  1. What is a gamer? My 8 year old son plays a lot of Lego Star Wars 2 on the ps2 - I consider him a "gamer"?? Why would we not want Loretta?? My guess is that we have come to the conclusion that trying to corner the market on average to below average middle infielders as a strategy to win the World Series has some serious flaws
  2. Any chance Oakland wants to unload Kotsay? Not that I want him, but the Cubs were once after him, and I could see Beane unloading him and the remaining $15m owed. Kotsay's #'s last year are not as good as Jones. I don't care if Jones wants to be traded - he should be our centerfielder unless we can get an obvious upgrade. I don't think I mind having Floyd on the team - we need to remember that Lou is managing this year and not the Dustman so my guess if Floyd is stinking it up in his ab's Lou is not going to continue to run him out there. If he has a good year we have a much deeper team.
  3. Maybe they are trying to convince people he is major leauge ready so they can trade him?
  4. You, sir, have inspired me. As far as on topic, I'm excited to see Matz pitch! This is gonna be cool. 8-) Very nice! :)
  5. Off topic: I love your sig! If the 2007 Cubs are as bad as the 2006 Cubs, I'm counting on Sweet Lou to make it entertaining, at least. Thanks! I did a search for Piniella quotes the first day he got hired and put it up. It's actually longer than that but wouldn't all fit.
  6. ESPN reporting a done deal 6 years/52 million. I'm kind of suprised they got it done for 8.67 mil a year. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2696321
  7. What are the Mariners going to with Lopez? He had a slightly worse season than Vidro but is making about 20 times less than Vidro who appears to be on his last legs.
  8. Jose Mesa is worth more or less one Henry Blanco??
  9. The Cubs will get a fair offer for him. There's no reason not to. He's making reasonable money for decent production, even if all of his production comes against RHP. I would think so also but the Newhan rumours made me kind of skitish.
  10. No way do I trade Jones just because his whiny butt wants out. If we don't get decent value in return he is my CF at least until we can make a deal at midseason. Just because he wants to be traded is no reason to accomodate him if it hurts the team.
  11. I'll bet you Dusty starts him over Murton!!!!
  12. To assume GM's are that intelligent is a risky proposition. Have you met Ned Coletti? I haven't but I would be interested in hearing about the times you have met him.
  13. I wonder if Barry thinks he'd look good in blue pinstripes. Of course, we also have a somewhat dilapidated stadium, but it's a fixer-upper, with charm! And on the historical register fer cryin' out loud. C'mon Barry, you know you want to stay in the NL. And his Dad came to the Cubs to finish his career, so it would provide some real nice historic resonance. Let's hope he plays better with us than his Dad did when he came here. I have no interest in Barry but if we get him we also get Pedro Gomez..............
  14. He kills left handed pitching. 323/377/584 in 2006
  15. Wuertz is out of options as well, isn't he? I doubt Hendry goes into the season with the bullpen constructed as-is. Dempster Wood Howry Eyre Ohman Cotts Wuertz Even if Wood starts the season on the DL, there's not much flexibility because no one in that group has options. The Cubs have a few young candidates for the seventh spot in the pen. I'd put significant money on at least one of these guys being dealt. Isn't Cotts going to be tried as a starter?
  16. Because he's Barry Bonds? Because he's a jackass.
  17. Aww man I hate it when people say that!
  18. I can't see you getting a 2 year deal - maybe 1/5 with some incentives?
  19. I'm glad someone agrees. I don't understand the infatuation with Lugo in a position that he's played a total of 1 time in his Major League career, especially when it's more vital that we upgrade at SS than it is in OF. I agree, Jones has at least played 159 games in CF. Not to mention the fact that Jones had a better year than Lugo last year.
  20. Ned Colletti says: I don't know what everyone around here was bitching about all he time - right there you got yourself a highly paid major leauge baseball executive saying that the Frenchman had a good OBP......................duh
  21. Not happening with the Cubs. He's played for three big-league managers and none of the three has been fond of him. His most recent manager was in the Cubs system as a coach. I'm sure they still talk. So no, he's not coming here. Quite a contrast with the kind words said about Soriano by some in the Nats organization. I heard today that Soriano is the first one to the park everyday on the Nats........ that must be how batting order is determined??
  22. adieu That's what I'm talking about ^^^^^ 8) 8)
  23. Hendry is the man. The chickens will all be running around until they find out who is the man..............or something like that. Man I've had a long day.
