  1. I just went out to Expedia to check on hotel rates for the WS weekend, because, you know, it wouldn't hurt to have a reservation just in case. WOW - they've already got them jacked up. Everything in the Loop/MagMile area is in the $300 - $500 a night range.
  2. Most fans? Maybe not. Fans that care about winning and the future direction of the team - I'd sure think so.
  3. If you're staying in the loop or Mag Mile and are a runner/jogger -- an early (or not so early) morning run on the lakefront is pretty cool. It's a nice way to sweat yesterday's beer out.
  4. And a big +1 on the troughs and efficiency. If they replaced those with urinals, every beer drinker in Wrigley would miss most of the game.
  5. re: Sears Tower... Skip the Sears Tower and do the Hancock building. It's right on the lake and in my opinion the views are much better. A tip on that is don't go to the observatory there, go to the Signature Lounge. It's one floor higher and there's no admission charge, you just have to buy a drink. So basically, you get the same view and a drink for the price you'd pay for the observatory.
  6. I've been surfing around a bit, and it looks like EI folks are out of luck, but the game will be on mlb.tv.
  7. I've got Extra Innings and every 12:05 start this year has been blacked out. I don't know why this one would be any different. I believe one of the 12:05 games was on WGN so I was able to watch that, but all CSN aired 12:05 games have been blacked out.
  8. Funny stuff from the Rays board: NC_Rays_Fan wrote: Let that irony sink in a minute...good stuff. Edited to add - Crap, I'm too slow. Classic, stuff, though.
  9. Just a couple of weeks ago a SF writer argued that Sabean was the better Bay Area GM. Here's the FireJoeMorgan response. Good stuff. http://www.firejoemorgan.com/2008/04/movie-trailer-guy-voice-from-mind-that.html
  10. I've been looking at the weather for tonight and tomorrow. Winds between 25 and 30 mph from the south and southwest? Gusting up to 40 mph? Sounds fun.
  11. Has anybody heard how they're going to handle the HD games this year? Last year it was an extra $20 for Superfan. I didn't mind paying it, but they only offered one or two games a night. If I understand correctly, most games will be available in HD this year, so I hope they offer the HD versions... Edit: Or was it $40 for Superfan? I can't remember now.
  12. From Will Carroll's chat at Baseball Prospectus yesterday: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/chat/chat.php?chatId=289&mode=print&nocache=1178043605 That's more promising than anything I'd heard previously. To me it's a no-brainer to hold on to him. I don't buy the whole 'he just needs a change of scenery' bs.
  13. For anyone with the Extra Innings Superfan, the game will be in HD on channel 731, according to the DirecTV website.
  14. MLB EI is free this week, and the game is on somewhere between Channel 735 and 749 thanks for the info! Channel 741 according to this: http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/global/contentPageIF.jsp?assetId=P1700157
  15. Has anybody heard what the long-term plan for Wood is? It almost sounds from some of the things I'm hearing is that he might be on the 'Smoltz' plan -- going to the bullpen for a year or two as 'rehab' with the potential to return to the rotation.
  16. Does anybody know if the blackout restrictions have been relaxed this year. I'm in one of those areas (Arkansas) where it seems like half the league is blacked out. We can't get Astros, Rangers, Cardinals or Royals games here -- and we're at least 300 miles away from all of these places. Ridiculous. So...whenever the Cubs played the 'stros or Cards, we were usually out of luck. I know Selig came out and said they were going to try and do something about it, but I never heard if anything happened.
  17. The difference? I'm thinking about $4 million a year....
  18. I just saw this: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/news/e3irjxs41AWkRd9HNFr2C9weA%3D%3D No details and not a single mention of the Cubs... (Edited to fix link)
  19. FYI for everybody with DirecTV and MLB EI -- the game will be broadcast in high def on channel 95.
  20. I just got my note saying no tickets for me.... From Cubs.com:
  21. I can only speak for those I've been to, but my rankings would be: 1) Wrigley - of course 2) Turner Field - maybe I'm biased...The only game I've seen there was Game 1 of the 2003 NLDS 3) SBC - Comfortable seats, beautiful park, great sightlines, nice food/beer options. 4) Kaufman - An oldie but a goodie
  22. Nice quote from Dusty: Dusty: Not saying the guy's had an epiphany or anything, but it beats most of the things that come out of his mouth. Between that and him saying that Walk's the front runner for 2B, I don't mind what I'm hearing from him so far this spring.
  23. How he gets paid to write for a living is beyond me.....
  24. Slow day at work so I decided to look at next year's schedule. A couple of interesting (at least to me) tidbits: Longest road trip: 10 games, June 2-11 at StL, Hou, Cin Longest home stand: 11 games, July 27-August 6 vs. StL, AZ, Pitt Longest stretch of games with no off day: 20, September 1 - 20 No games vs. StL or Houston after August 27. Month home vs. away April: 12/11 May: 14/15 June: 11/16 July: 13/13 August: 13/15 September: 17/11 October: 1/0
