1. Just picked up Friday and Saturday Cards tickets for the August series. I hate, hate, hate paying the premium, but coming in from Arkansas, it's nice to have the tickets in hand ahead of time.
2.
3. And now Matt Adams - who has been hurt for weeks - has passed Rizzo. :banghead: :banghead:
4. From @DannyEcker: Finally - let's get to work.
5. I'll be driving up from AR for the Fri/Sat games. Looking forward to it. The last time I saw a game in KC, George Brett was the 3B. I'm old....
6. Ha ha alright tough guy. So i guess you work for the cubs front office and knew it was an option in their thinking. We dont work for the cubs smart guy, and it was obvious they didn't consider it an option but yet you continue to beat this idea that somehow, keeping bradley was an option the cubs were still considering. The whole point is that it should have been an option they were considering and that they're stupid and short-sighted for not considering it.
7. I love that wins is his justification. That and he's been an excellent guy. I'd forgotten about the Joe-chats. I miss http://www.firejoemorgan.com. edited to add: or what daske17 said...
8. Hah. That was a fun read. Anyway, it's a Cards board, what do you expect... Oh I know, and it was fun. I live around Stl fans here in Central IL and I hear the same [expletive] all the time I live in Arkansas, big-time Cards fan-base. I think we've got the market cornered on obnoxious Cards fan. Of course my Cards fan friends are pretty lame - all they've got is '100 years'....
9. Hah. That was a fun read. Anyway, it's a Cards board, what do you expect...
10. Gameday had pitches 1,2, and 4 in the strike zone.
11. Grand Slam actually - http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHN/CHN200808280.shtml
12. I know its just spring training, but its nice to see the goose-eggs in the BB column.
13. THANK YOU! I was looking for this and couldn't find it anywhere. I forgot about that game. That game was awesome. Wasn't that Z vs. Good Zito? Prior versus Mulder. I was right in the sense that Z was a pitcher for the Cubs and Zito was a pitcher for the A's in the same way the Prior was a pitcher for the Cubs and Mulder was a pitcher for the A's. Close, that was the next day. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHN/CHN200406200.shtml
14. Well, here in Arkansas, people have been treating me like my dog just died. Polite inquiries asking how I'm doing, offers of condolences. Pretty funny actually. I've got a few Cardinals fans who think they're funny. I usually just respond by sending them the picture of Lilly running over Molina.
15. I thought it was pretty darn funny myself. There was a bit on The Daily Show the night before on the Cubs that was pretty rough, too. It starts around the 6 minute mark. http://www.thedailyshow.com/full-episodes/index.jhtml?episodeId=187567 At least the Cubs are relevant enough to get a few jabs.
16. I totally agree. They'll sell out the season again. What I do think we'll see is a heightened sense of... not sure what the word is, maybe fickleness or impatience or intolerance for non-success. I think the boo's are going to come out much quicker and the team, especially certain player (Soriano) are going to have very short leashes in the fans' minds.
17. Where's the damn earthquake? Can't count out this week... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Madrid_Seismic_Zone
18. Makes no sense to me either. I look at it like this (seems like a no-brainer..): How many times out of 10 will he successfully get the sac bunt down and GIVE UP AN OUT vs how many times will he get a hit? Open and shut case - stupid call. ps - I'm sure there's some metrics at Baseball Prospectus on this, but I'm too lazy to look it up.
19. 3 outs from hitting the 2006 World Champs' win total.
20. Yes, Marquis vs. the Phillies' lineup sounds like a scary proposition...
21. Does the team with Home Field Advantage actually get to choose their dates? I figured they were pre-set and picked by the league (TV).
22. I don't have a link to a particular article, but a full chapter or good portion of a chapter in Baseball Between the Numbers addressed this. Edited to add link. Here's an interesting article: http://www.sabernomics.com/sabernomics/index.php/2004/09/the-protection-externality-it-doesnt-exist/
23. Aside from the Scully comment (and it came across to me like he was joking), Kent's got a point about small sample sizes and the notion of 'protection'.
