  1. Just got back from the ND game. Quinn broke ND's all time records for passing yards, and pass completions. Also first ND QB to go over 3k yards. Really upset I missed the UM/OSU game. Was it as good as the scoring updates sounded. Also sucks that Tenn. lost to Vanderbilt. Anyway looks like ND is Tempe bound, barring any major setbacks against Stanford. However if ND comes out like they did today they will not win come January. Also pretty awesome that Mooney(sp?) got a completion to O'Hare. Congrats to Penn State. :D
  2. I highly, highly doubt that. I can't imagine a team coming out in the middle of the season and announcing that they're releasing their starting quarterback once the season is over. I will try to find the quote. It was from someone in the org...I think EDIT: He is due an 8 million option if the Texans want to extend his contract after this year-through 2008. It has to be announced by the end of the season if they are going to extend it or not, so the bonus will spread out over 4 years, including this one. Sources with the Texans said that if the Texans remain with the #1 pick, which they currently have, Carr will be gone. The GM said they plan on picking it up. Either way it will be known by the end of the season what they are going to do. I guess I misread the statement. The Texans did not announce it...yet. "Sources" did. We all know how sources go, so that could be very wrong. I personally could see them dropping Carr. Or they could trade the pick and work on getting Carr some protection, which IMO would help him out a lot.
  3. That's true. Vikings 21 Packers 14 Two of the Vikings touchdowns are scored on special teams. Either way, my money is on the Packers losing. You should be rooting for the Packers. I know I'm rooting against them. I want that number one pick, REAL badly. Trade down for someone who is desperate enough for Matt Leinart and hopefully get Reggie Bush... Unless you're trading down like 1 or 2 spots, that won't work. Baltimore, Arizona, Cleveland and NO could pick Leinart, but a number of the other bad teams - GB, SF, Jets, Houston - will not be picking him. If you're GB and you want Bush, it would just be best to pick him right at #1, or else you're running a strong risk of losing him. Either way, there's a lot of competition for that #1 pick, so GB really has to tank it the rest of the way to get it. I think if they win another game they have no shot at that pick. Houston will be going after Leinhart. They announced this week they plan on releasing Carr after the season.
  4. Vick only played two years (99-00). In those two years Miami was the only team ranked in the top 25 at the end of the year. The teams you mentioned had a record over those two years of 13-10; 11-12; 15-9; respectively (excluding Miami). BC is the only BE team from that time that could be considered good. And look at the rest of the BE- Temple, Rutgers, Pitt. Not a very good conference IMO.
  5. I think he receives too much adulation. People have been saying for years that he'll reinvent the position. He won't. He is a very talented QB that can help your team win. But outside of the hype, I wouldn't even consider him pro bowl material let alone say he's on track to be a hall of famer. Far too many have simply annointed him as the next great one. In reality he's done very little. The defense down there has been the biggest reason for success. Right now I'd take him on the Bears in a heartbeat, because I don't have a lot of faith in the Bears QB's and think Vick could do a better job of managing the team, without losing games on his own. But I think Brees is better than him, and stands a very good chance of finishing his career as the better QB. I think some people complain a bit too much about Vick, but for the most part what I hear is people echoing my sentiments, basically annoyance at all the early praise he's received without having really earned it. Or perhaps better explained as annoyance that many are still praising him after he's shown over and over that he's not great. I agree with what you say, but the simple fact IMO is he wins games. He did not reinvent the position at all, nor will he. His arm is incredible (or at least it used to be) but he rarely uses it as he should. It don't think he has done as well as he can. There is no excuse for that. He is overconfident of his skills and it shows. But I think that since he has proved that he is a winner he should be given respect. He turned VT around (against a weak Big East) and he was expected to do the same with Atlanta. He hasn't done what everyone wanted him to do, but that does not make him bad. Maybe great is not the right word in terms of his skills, but he is an very, very good QB who gets criticized a lot, but keeps winning. I think by the end of his career he will have proven this. If he had come into the league quietly and done what he is doing, without all the hype, does anyone think people would praise him a lot more than they do?
  6. Was that the year they went nuts and beat all those teams in Maui? Indeed it was. Beat I believe Duke and UCLA before losing to Kansas. Or something like that. Beat UCLA and Kansas, lost to Duke in the Finals. Was a close game until about 8 minutes left. That was the 2001-2002 season. They went to the NIT that year. 1999-2000 was when BSU made it to the tournament. Lost to UCLA in the first round.
  7. Good luck Flames, and thanks for pulling us within one game of first in the division, even though we can't win it. :) Hope you guys win the MAC. It'd be awesome for our ego to know we dominated the MAC champion at their place. BSU is within one in the MAC!!? Wow. I don't think won more than 4 games the four years I was there. Is there still a Lynch at QB? As a matter of fact, Adam, there is! Joey Lynch, but he is actually really good, especially considering the o-line gives him no time to throw, ever. We're 4-6, on a three game win streak. If we can beat CMU, we end the season 5-6, and with 19  starters returning next year, we look like a (wait for it) BOWL TEAM! Wow. BSU in a bowl? Hoke is turning it around, huh? I remember when they went to the tourney a few years ago. The place was crazy.
  8. Cody Ransom is: http://img388.imageshack.us/img388/354/78032544gv.jpg Wasn't he with the Giants, or am I thinking of someone else?

  10. I don't. When he plays the Falcons win. When he doesn't they lose. OK, maybe some people speak to highly of him, but he is a great QB, IMO. Obviously you haven't watched many games with Schaub at the helm... Actually I haven't. Has he played in many? I remember one last year that did not turn out too well.
  11. I don't. When he plays the Falcons win. When he doesn't they lose. OK, maybe some people speak to highly of him, but he is a great QB, IMO. He played against the Pack this last Sunday and couldnt lead them to a win vs a pretty shaky Pack team. I wouldnt say hes a great QB, but I definatly would take him on the Bears  Ya can't win every game  . I just think he is good because has proven that the team needs him in order to win. He has a decent arm but is just not your typical QB. Just because he doesn't fit the mold does not make him bad, IMO. I think he gets to much criticism.
  12. Bingo. Plus, it's great for sleeping. Anyone going to argue against my pro-sleeping agenda? And I agree on the refreshed feeling. I made the mistake of riding my bike back from the gym in shorts when the wind chill was about 18 degrees today, but other than that, I love it. Can't wait for some real snow. Sleeping in cold weather is great. It is a great feeling to just be able to get under a big pile of blankets. I also like being able to wear big sweaters all the time. Much more comfortable. Only thing I miss is flip-flops. That's why you crank up the AC, turn on a box fan, and turn on a ceiling fan in the summer. Trust me, you'll need some blankets during the night. I have woken up many a night after the bars and been able to see my breath in the middle of summer. I am always hot and when I get drunk I decide I need to turn the AC as low as it will go to get it cooler faster (which doesn't work), then I pass out. Also I am unable to sleep at night without a fan on. I really love the cold. Right now it sucks, because I did not expect it, but in about a week I will be happy as can be. I normally turn off the heat vents in my room during the winter, making sleep great-and getting up impossible.

  14. Why the quotations? Probably because that was the week where people were saying "this is the vick we've waited to see!" Interestingly, vick's season qb rating is identical to his career rating Ah, the week where stated he proved he could pass?

  17. Independence bowl is against the SEC right? Any chance they will match up with either Tennesse or South Carolina?
  18. While it's true that ND has blown out their opponents while Oregon, UCLA, and Alabama haven't been good, look at their competition. The quality of Notre Dame's opponents rapidly deteriorates after USC on their schedule, and by nature of a conference schedule, the others' schedules improve. Cpatt, I don't think we ever agree on this issue. Perhaps, as I mentioned earlier we should just not discuss ND in the College Football threads. Lets talk about your team. Is Mizzou going to be bowl eligible? (I don't mean that sarcastically, I am trying to change the topic an d am genuinely curious). I know they have a very outside shot of winning the conference, pretty much a miracle will be needed, but will they be in a bowl? If so what one? Just saw your edit. Guess we are thinking on the same lines here.
  19. They're this year's Cal, but with another loss and the Media likes them. That was a pretty poorly written article IMO. He dismisses the records of teams in lieu of watching them play. While there's something to be said for how a team plays, their record, strength of their schedule, etc. are REFELCTIONS of how the team played. This part in particular made me wonder: He compares this to people pointing out MSU-ND. Maybe the difference is that in the former case, it's the opponent of the opponent losing compared to just the opponent. And if he were to apply that Miami-FSU-Clemson logic to the other situation, then he could ask a similar question about ND-MSU-Northwestern/Purdue/Minnesota. It's just poor logic. I hardly think strength of schedule is a reflection of how a team plays. Their record yes, their strength of schedule they have no control over. All a team can do is play the opponent they are supposed to and do their best. Weak or strong the SOS is not a REFLECTION of how a team played. It is how they handle that schedule that reflects on the team. I think what you just explained is exactly what he meant. You kind of confused me, but Miami lost to a sub-par FSU team. It seems everybody forgot that, or agrees that Miami has gotten a lot better. I know I think they have. The ND-MSU-Northwestern, etc... point is the point he is making, I think. ND lost to MSU who lost to any one of those teams. Miami lost to FSU who lost to Clemson, NC State, and Virgina. Do you think ND is a better team since when they played MSU? Likewise do you think MSU is a worse team than when they played? Did any of that make sense? It did when I was writing it, but now I'm not too sure. NDistops, maybe you can better say what I am trying to.
  20. Well I appears that some of you have been e-mailing questions to SI.com regarding ND's ranking  http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/writers/stewart_mandel/11/16/mailbag/index.html A pretty good article that explains the reason for their ranking. Simply offering it as a complimentary read to what has already been said. I don't want to stir up the ND argument again.
  21. I thought for sure you were going to say the Festivus pole. i really should have. dang it. the f the pole eece thing is really something that nobody probably thought was funny besides me. I found it to be hilarious.
  22. That makes me think a certain scene from Playmakers. Good article. DP interviewed someone not too long ago who was saying that, no matter what, the drugs will always be ahead of the tests. For each one discovered there a multiple new ones to take its place.
  23. At least it shows Neifi starting is not plan 'B'. AGon II is hardly a big improvement over Neifi. That is b/c Neifi is plan A for second base. Cedeno hasn't played one inning at second this winter. He hasn't? I though he did for some reason. I am very likely wrong though. I should probably just face the fact that Perez will be in the line-up come spring. :x
  24. Could possibly be the first time since Carroll was hired that Plaschke wrote something bad about USC. With USC's depleted LB corpse, it was much harder for Carroll to take action against Maualuga. Is this a somewhat big story out there, or is it no big deal? It's big when the pro-USC folks are writing front page stories about it. Wow. Maybe USC will get in trouble and become ineligible for bowl games and scholarships...forever. Than maybe other teams will have a chance.
  25. I think it is Bryan Cody Ransom.
