  1. Didn't he say they were going to try to stay in South Florida?
  2. Yep. Quinn used to drop back by moving forward. it rarely worked. :o HAHA, good one :D I wanted to avoid using the word "mechanics" and that is the best way I could think to phrase it. Perhaps I should just say his footwork is much improved.
  3. Regarding academics that is one of the reasons ND will never join. The Big 10 often does joint research, and with the religious nature of ND's research it would either a) limit their ability to do what they want with research b) involve the other schools in research they are not interested in doing. This was one of the main reasons given by the University a few years ago when the Big 10 invited ND. That plus the alumni funding. Since ND is funded mainly by the alumni the school often makes efforts to schedule games where a large fan base can see them play. A conference affiliation would take away from that ability. Those are just two of many reasons, but they are largely non-football, so I thought I would throw them out there. Just a tidbit of interesting info. Many, many, many years ago ND attempted to join the Big 10, but was denied in large due to Fielding Yost and his hatred for ND.
  4. I thought the same thing about JoePa but the fact is he is still the head coach. I don't really know how much responsibilty is relenquished, but I am sure all coaches let their assistants deal with certain aspects, I just don't know to what degree. Quinn is 8x better this year than last. His whole approach is different. The way he drops back is different, his ability to read defense is improved, he checks his progressions better, he doesn't force passes, etc. He is actually coached now. He even said himself that he felt like he was never taught anything under Ty. Plus Quinn is only 1/22 of that football team (that starts). However JoePa is the winner in my mind. He has turned that team around in an unbelievable fashion. Congrats to him and PSU.
  5. That won't happen. I hear Temple is still looking for a new conference :D Maybe the Big 10 can get a team from the Big East. Pitt or WVU?
  6. I just heard on ESPN radio the Oregon could now be in the Fiesta and OSU will get left out. So many different stories :x When is the BCS selection show? Dec. 4th BTW, another argument for a Big 10 title game: Ther have been split or co-champs 6 of the past 10 years How many of those Co-Champs met head to head? That is what I really just don't get. I think a few years ago UM and Iowa split but they did not play. This years co-champ thing just does not make sense. There's always a lot of talk about Mizzou going to the Big 10. I don't think any of it is ever serious, but as a Mizzou student, although we would get pounded, the exposure would beat the hell out of the current TV deal that the Big 12 has. Then would the Big 12 lose their championship game? What other teams could fit in the Big 10?

  9. Nope. Joe will run away with this one. Doesn't matter who else you put in the poll. I don't care one way or the other, just wondered why he wasn't listed at all. But when most of the board couldn't care less about the SEC, it's to be expected I guess. Les Miles is up there and he is SEC. I just overlooked him, thats all. While he is doing a good job, I would not consider him to be a coach of the year. There are just too many other good ones this year IMO.
  10. He and his mother have both made it very clear he's coming back. His mom slipped and mentioned winning the Heisman as his goal. She meant to say National Championship. Big goals for Brady at ND next season. Quinn is already being predicted as the #1 pick in two years. A little to early for that IMO though. That was funny when his mom slipped up. You could tell she was real embarassed. Fassano is eligible for a 5th year also, but he will probably leave after this year. A side note, Ty hung a "play like a champion today" sign in the Washington locker room. Probably not interesting to most, but I found it to be funny.
  11. Well, ESPN agrees with you, as both of their guys have PSU playing Va Tech in the Orange Bowl, while collegefootballnews.com has PSU playing ND in the Fiesta. Who knows. I think both matchups would be exciting. Saturday ESPN had ND/PSU, going against everything they have said up to that point. ESPN Radio said the same thing today. Now they are back to the original PSU/VT match-up? This will probably change 30 more times between now and then. All this talk has made me excited for a PSU?ND game, so I really hope it happens now.
  12. The PSU-OSU game earlier this year was ESPN's second highest-rated game every, topped only by Free Shoes U versus Miami in 1994... and both those games are obviously very regional in nature. In college football, prestige and storylines matter more for ratings than anything else. In PSU and Notre Lame, you've got two teams returning to powerhouse status, probably the most prominent coach in the game, and another coach who is becoming one of the biggest names in college football. Plus, one school with a ton of alumni, and the other school with a very large following. ND gets the best TV ratings, but PSU is very close behind them. Unless there's another game that I'm forgetting, I really do think a PSU-ND matchup would be the highest rated non-championship BCS game ever. I really can't overstate how big that match-up would be.
  13. Yeah, that was something. Wasn't the only TD on a blocked punt? There were 3 TD's. Two by PSU and one by ND. PSU had the extra point blocked on their first TD. Both of PSU's came of off turnovers (Irv Smith fumble, and Mirer int). The game also had one of the most impressive goal line stands I can remember when PSU had the ball 1st and goal on the 1 and ND held them. ? Michigan beat OSU 9-3 oh, I found this just now "Teams routinely punted on first, second and third downs in hopes of winning the field position battle." I was referring to the ND/PSU snow bowl that NDistops mentioned in regards to a PSU/ND match-up. Were you talking about something else? Perhaps so if it was 45 punts in a game. I just noticed that. Didn't know there was a OSU/UM game dubbed the snow bowl as well. :-k
  14. True, the yearly arguments due to college football is one of the upsides to the current system, and it would just lead to arguments over who was left out of the playoffs--which would not be as fun.
  15. Yeah, that was something. Wasn't the only TD on a blocked punt? There were 3 TD's. Two by PSU and one by ND. PSU had the extra point blocked on their first TD. 16. Favorite line: "Dude, remember when I asked your mom to prom?" I don't know about Rocky 6. The first 3 are classic. 4 is alright, but I refuse to acknowledge the 5th one ever being made. The fifth created the classic "Yo, go for it" line. I don't know where I would be today without that wisdom.
  17. Wow. Nothing like calling someone stupid because they are offended by something that you are not.
  18. Thought I would start a poll to see who wins for the NSBB coach of the year. I am just picking a few off the top of my head, so sorry if I exluded anyone. I know there a few games to be played yet so maybe this is a coach of the year so far poll.
  19. A bowl committee that is interested in drawing in crowds and ratings from different parts of the country. PSU/ND is a good football game, but the big bowls typically try and get something other than a regional matchup. I think they'd rather see PSU or ND face a west coast or southern team if at all possible. I thought PSU had a pretty large national crowd, due to the size of the alumni. A lot more than Oregon at least
  20. I really don't care. Most people around here consider us the Big Ten champs, and really, if you get the automatic bid from your conference by way of a head-to-head victory, you have good reason to think that. Most people at O$U probably don't think of them as Big Ten champs because they could end up going to the Crapital One Bowl. As for where PSU goes, I really don't care. To be honest, I think the Orange Bowl is idiotic for choosing O$U over Penn State. Penn State is the #3 BCS team, won the head-to-head matchup, is a prestigious program returning to national prominence and has a legendary coach who was written off last year. There's more interest in PSU than O$U this year. I have a feeling that the Fiesta Bowl-Orange Bowl dealings will be kind of a "you scratch our backs this year, we'll scratch your backs another year" type of thing. The Notre Dame-Penn State matchup will have mega-ratings, probably the best of any non-championship BCS game in history, I'm guessing. Exactly. Plus, PSU historically draws great ratings and has fans who will travel anywhere. Local paper said that the alumni association has already had over 1000 calls from people interested in the organized bowl game trip, and that's just locally. I'm pretty sure that PSU is #1 (or close to it) in # of alumni in this country. It's pretty astounding ESPN was full of people calling in who were OSU fans, and bragging about winning the Big 10. There merchandise says Big 10 champs as well. Those are what led to my question. PSU/ND would be a huge game for the Fiesta Bowl. I agree Truffle they would probably see more money for that game than they ever have for a non-Championship game. I was unsure at first about it, since they play next year, but now I am getting excited at the prospect of this happening.
  21. I'm not sure about this anymore. The LA Times hasn't mentioned anything about this in a week and other publications are now saying the Pac-10 will go to the winner of UCLA-USC. :-k If UCLA wins it becomes a 3 way tie. In that case it goes to non-conference games, and since Oregon has played the weakest non-conference (they have a division IAA) they are out. UCLA and USC then go on a head-to-head tiebreaker which UCLA would win. At least that is what was just explained to me. EDIT: Perhaps I am wrong in what I just wrote Since UCLA lost to Arizona, they are out and USC wins the head-up between them and Oregon, meaning that USC will win regardless of the UCLA outcome...unless Oregon losses and UCLA wins, then UCLA will win outright.
  22. The new BCS 1 USC 2 Texas 3 Penn State 4 LSU 5 Virginia Tech 6 Ohio State 7 Oregon 8 Notre Dame 9 Miami 10 Auburn 11 West Virginia 12 UCLA 13 TCU 14 Alabama 15 Georgia 16 Texas Tech 17 Wisconsin 18 Boston College 19 Fresno State 20 Louisville 21 Georgia Tech 22 Michigan 23 Florida 24 Florida State 25 Northwestern
  23. I was going to ask about the OSU/PSU split. Derwood and Truffle, how is that sitting in Nittany Lion nation. I can't comprehend how these two teams split the Big 10 title. PSU won head to head and they have the same conference record. What else is there to be said? Does it have something to do with OSU beating Michigan-the only team PSU lost to? Even that shouldn't matter IMO. I also liked how OSU players were wearing shirts/hats that said "Big 10 champs" no mention of the "co" part. And now a PSU team that wins the BCS spot may get passed over for OSU as the first choice for a bowl? PSU is getting jobbed in this whole thing.
  24. No comment
  25. If I were an Oregon or Auburn fan I would be extremely upset, and they have every right to be. This year ND will benefit from the fact that more than anything the BCS games are a business. I will not say this is right or wrong. It has been argued A LOT on this board, and I don't want to keep annoying people with ND talk. I end all my ND talk with this- I see everyones point against ND's ranking. If I were not a fan, I am sure I would argue that same thing. I do think there are valid points on both sides of the argument, however. The simple fact is that the system is flawed. In the past it has benefited some teams and hurt some teams. ND has been on both sides of the spectrum as I am sure many of your favorite teams have at some point. If the roles were reversed and ND was getting screwed and Oregon was benefiting would there be this big of an uproar? If your favorite team was benefiting from the system would you complain as much (this is a general question, not directed at anyone). It all boils down to the BCS sucks, a playoff is needed, and this is a debate that will never end, and no one will ever win it. Can we please just let the ND talk die out, at least as to their rankings and if they deserve it? Game talk fine, bowl talk fine, but whether they deserve it or not, we all know how everybody feels. Lets just all agree to disagree. I promise to not argue their ranking, schedule strength, or what bowl they deserve to be in from this point on.
