  1. Silly me thinking, "Maybe the wind will hold it up."
  2. Looks like Hendricks isn't calling his own pitches anymore. So far so good.
  3. I'll go against the grain and say that I think leaving Canario in was the right move there. He didn't get the job done, but taking at bats against lefties is what he is supposed to do. I just don't think bringing a left handed hitter off the bench to face a tough lefty pitcher was a realistic option. And if you bring Gomes in there, MAYBE he gives the Cubs a fractionally better chance of getting the run(s) in, but what does that do for Canario's confidence? I like that Counsell is giving unproven guys chances in situations like that, but it isn't always going to work out. Unfortunately, this was one of those times. I'm 50/50 on the bunt with the Amaya, but I absolutely understand why the Cubs did it and Amaya executed it perfectly.
  4. Oh man, Canario. Interesting route to the ball. And JD with the perfect call, "Grandpa's got the joystick again!"
  5. The Cubs don't attempt many stolen bases, but when they do, it is obvious why they don't attempt many stolen bases.
  6. With a lineup composed of three outfield reserves, and Cooper and Madrigal.
  7. Luke Little coming in with Amaya catching and a runner on third... Haven't we seen this before?
  8. Wind blowing hard left to right? I thought Cooper's ball to LF was going to be a home run, and Wisdom's looked like a routine fly ball to right center that almost carried into the basket.
  9. That can't be true because they said the winner plays Miami Friday night and Miami is #8. So it's like a double play-in for the 8 seed or something?
  10. I still don't understand how this whole play-in things works and I contend that it is dumb even though I have no idea what it is. But this has been an entertaining game.
  11. It would have been great if the Cubs had swept, but it is encouraging how they have bounced back on multiple occasions from what could have been demoralizing losses.
  12. Over/under 0.5 innings before the Cubs bullpen gives up the lead?
  13. To be fair, he has a grand total of 10 at bats through the first 17 games, so it's hard to expect him to have any sort of success in his infrequent at bats. But life isn't fair, and I don't think any number of consistent at bats are going to turn Mastrobuoni into a legitimate MLB player.
  14. I really want him to retire as a Cub. I'm hopeful that, when his time with the Cubs is done (which it appears may be much sooner than later), he will walk away rather than trying to hang on somewhere else. I know that isn't usually the way it goes though, and he'll probably keep pitching as long as someone will let him.
  15. Yep, that's why I don't think a 6 man rotation makes sense at this point. The starters don't need extra rest. That isn't the problem.
  16. Eh, there's not a ton of downside. You lose the runner at third and gain a runner at second. Still need a hit either way.
  17. This one has been thrown away multiple times, but the other team keeps throwing it back.
  18. I'm fine with walking Carroll there. Maybe they lose the game right here, but IF the game makes it to extra innings at least he won't be the runner in second.
