Cubs are working a lot of deep counts against Musgrove, but nothing to show for it yet. -

There are no guarantees with the portal, but it has really consolidated the power in college basketball. Mid-majors have virtually no shot now. The product itself is still exciting to watch, but I really hate what it is doing to the sport as a whole. I don't know what the solution is, and maybe there isn't one now that Pandora's box has been opened, but hopefully we aren't seeing NIL in its final form. There has to be a way to get players paid while also not making every season a recruiting free for all.

I'm assuming tomorrow will be a Smyly/Brown piggyback, so hopefully that can cover 6-7ish innings. Hendricks, on the other hand, might require a lot of bullpen help. I think Wesneski is a good call.

Neris is supposed to be good, right? Because I haven't seen anything that makes me think he is a reliable late inning reliever.

If you listened to Crane Kenney last week on The Score, I'm not sure he has any other option.

They do usually solidify the pen over the course of the season, but this cycle of reliever roulette at the beginning of every season is extremely frustrating.

Which combination of 3 remaining bullpen arms can get through the next 3 innings unscathed? None of them? That's right. The Cubs better add on.

Does Cuas have options? If so, I think it's time to figure things out in Iowa.

At least 1 more rehab start, and I wouldn't be surprised if it is more than that. There's no reason to rush him back right now.

Sutcliffe did fill in for most West Coast games last season. But I always assumed that was more about JD's travel/schedule demands and not the Cubs unwillingness to send their full broadcast team on the road. On a related note, I was watching a Giants broadcast last week and they had their primary play by play guy live in the booth and the color commentator was remote. I think it was likely health-related, but I thought that made for an interesting broadcast dynamic. I can't go 10 seconds without accidentally talking over someone on a conference call.

I'm not an EST person, but I have always loved West Coast games. As a kid, it usually meant my parents were in bed and I could watch the game in peace. As an adult, it usually means my wife and kids are in bed and I can relax and watch the game in peace. Everything between 6-9pm is usually occupied with the kids in one way or another, so West Coast games are a good opportunity to sit back and watch a game when all the day's responsibilities have been finished.

Honestly, then change the rule. If you are going to play a game in potentially unsafe conditions because of the score, then maybe MLB should think about what is causing them to consider that. Simply resume the game where it left off and this is a non-issue.

Completely anecdotal with nothing to back it up, but it feels like MLB has been waiting longer to get games in. That may be related to the way the schedule is now where teams don't play each other as often, which makes the logistics of make-up games a potential nightmare.
