  1. cedeno Nah, it won't happen. The Cubs can get through August with 12 and then have all the bullpen help they need in September.
  2. Tomorrow is Thursday. :D
  3. Percentage points are good enough for me!
  4. It's amazing how someone can hit the ball so hard (according to Len & Bob), but with relatively no power.
  5. I agree. I get tired of reading posts with these Moneyball stats being the only way to evaluate a player. Sure OPS is a useful stat, but I refuse to believe that any one stat can truly reflect someone's value.
  6. Is anyone else worried that Wood has never really had to work in any of his rehab appearances? What happens when he gets activated and has a tough 30-35 pitch inning? It doesn't seem like his shoulder has been tested very much so far.
  7. Anyone have an update from tonight yet?
  8. I'm still trying to temper my excitement for Wood's return, but he would truly give us an abundance of 8th inning caliber setup men. Howry, Marmol, Wood, and even Wuertz on occasion... that's a very impressive pen.
  9. Interesting... That's not at all what was reported tonight during the ESPN broadcast. They said that he would make a 2 inning appearance on Thursday or Friday and could be called up afterwards if all goes well. That didn't make much sense to me, waiting almost a week between relief appearances, so I'll have to go with Paul Sullivan on this one.
  10. It's also Bruce Levine. He hasn't been right about trade rumors or Chicago baseball moves since he reported Brock for Broglio in 2002 (had to wait for official confirmation). You mean the same Bruce Levine who rather emphatically insisted that Ryan Theriot wasn't and couldn't play Shortstop on an every day basis?
  11. Len said that if Kerry feels OK tomorrow, he will pitch back to back on Thursday and Friday. That's a pretty big step. Question: Are the Cubs going to keep moving Kerry up the minor league ladder or are they going to fast track him to the big club so they can take advantage of whatever bullets he has available in his arm? Hopefully the first option, and won't the Cubs have to make a 40 man roster move before they can activate him?
  12. This is sad... I'd like to think that I have something better to do than sit here and watch pitches come across on MLB Gamecast.
  13. I've been one of the Jacque Jones haters all along, but I have to admit that he has looked like a different player since the All-Star break, even before he started hitting. He came out after the break running everything out extremely hard and just seemed to have a completely different attitude. This team is playing too well for me to dislike anyone, so I'm going to do my best to get behind Jacque and give him a 2nd chance.
  14. This morning on ESPN 1000, Silvy said that Wood has lost something like 48 pounds??? I wonder if that could have anything to do with his heart condition and needing to carry less weight to make it easier on his body? That's just a complete guess though.
  15. I agree. Regardless of what happens in the game, it's embarrassing for me as a Cubs fan to see people throw garbage on the field. It just makes the team and its fans look bad and I hope as many of those people as possible were ejected tonight.
  16. Len seriously needs a Home-run call. Swung on, belted!
  17. The link on cubs.com is reporting Bowen and Blevins. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20070716&content_id=2090118&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc
  18. If Griffey only cost us Marshall, I would be fine with that. We're not going to get him for a couple mediocre prospects and I would be fine dealing one of our soft-tossing lefties for a huge left-handed bat. Yes it would create somewhat of a hole in the 5 spot, but most other teams have that same hole.
  19. He's in the last year of his contract and I'm assuming the Cubs would pick some of the remaining money up, so he would be a fairly cheap "solution" to anyone desperately needing middle infield help. That's desparation at its finest. The Orioles are playing Brandon Fahey at SS, they are desperation defined. Sadly--or maybe more accurate--amazingly, the Red Sox have Lugo there and we all know how bad he's been. Izzy would be a cheap help to them perhaps. Just spitballing here is all. Thank God we didn't sign Lugo.
  20. He's in the last year of his contract and I'm assuming the Cubs would pick some of the remaining money up, so he would be a fairly cheap "solution" to anyone desperately needing middle infield help.
  21. I wonder if the Cubs lead the league in errors at the catching position?
  22. I believe most of the complaints about Wrigley come from players/reporters in regards to the clubhouses, press boxes, etc. As a fan, I have no complaints and think it looks great, but I think some of the players feel differently based on parts of the stadium that we don't get to see.
  23. Wood could potentially be a nice insurance policy, but I see absolutely no reason to count on him or to rush him through a few rehab starts. Especially with an 11 man staff, the Cubs can't afford to have a guy who can only pitch every 2 or 3 days. I think Wood should remain in the minor leagues for several rehab appearances until/unless he can prove that he truly is healthy enough to pitch on a consistent basis. I'm a huge Kerry Wood fan and I hope more than anything that he can come back and contribute to the Cubs, but I still think it's too early to count on him for anything until he proves that he is ready.
  24. I disagree. Jones is occupying the spot that should be held by a 12th pitcher and I'm not sure how much longer the Cubs can get by with the bullpen working as much as they have recently.
