  1. Bellinger is out until mid June? Him missing a month is not ideal.
  2. The Cubs seem to have a real problem identifying bench personnel. Breaking camp with Torrens. Giving a roster spot to Rios who has no value except his bat, and his bat has been non-existent. Choosing both Mastrobuoni and Madrigal over Mckinstry. Signing Barnhart to a multi-year deal. Signing Hosmer when there was nothing to indicate that he could still be a productive player. The front office has at least shown a willingness to move on when bench guys don't work out, but it certainly doesn't inspire confidence that they have missed so often.
  3. It's one thing for the manager to discount the splits due to fairly small sample size and field a semi-normal lineup, but it's quite another to lean hard into the exact opposite of what the splits are showing.
  4. The Cubs have 6 left handed hitters in the lineup. None of them have any hits. They have 3 right handed hitters in the lineup. All of them have a hit.
  5. I must have been watching a different game yesterday. The one where Wisdom hit 2 home runs. I mean Mastrobuoni, Tauchman, Rios, Barnhart... My best guess is this pitcher has some severe R/L splits, but no major league team should be rolling a lineup out there with those 4 guys all in it on the same day.
  6. 1st and 2nd with no outs is this team's 7-10 split.
  7. I can't get over the tastytrade ad on the mound. Just awful, greedy, money-grubbing.
  8. Oh but just wait until the minor league depth gets here. Waves and waves of passable Major League pitchers should fix everything.
  9. Jed Hoyer really had a near complete disaster of an off-season.
  10. The Cubs have to be able to do better than Mastrobuoni. I'm yet to see anything he does well, or even average.
  11. Just got home and fast forwarded through the game, mostly to see how Kyle looked. I'm not sure what was worse, the Cubs offense or that ad projected onto the pitcher's mound. I'm going to be really annoyed if that is going to be an every game thing now.
  12. I can't go there. Not for the last man standing from the World Series team and the guy who outdueled Kershaw to clinch the NLCS. I know he's not that pitcher anymore, but if he's good enough to return anything of value, he's probably also good enough to factor into the Cubs rotation for the rest of the year.
  13. They have to be positive toward something.
  14. Your math is way off. No way is he hitting more than 200 homers this year.
  15. So Morel is peak Sammy Sosa, but not an asshat.
  16. This Morel fella is on some kind of heater.
  17. What's the deal with game threads not being in the game threads forum anyway?
  18. It's going to be a real stretch for Bronny to be 1-and-done to the NBA though. I also have a hard time envisioning a scenario where teams are willing to throw away a first round draft pick just to attract a 40+ year old LeBron. It will be really interesting to see how that all plays out.
  19. Lakers swept. You hate to see it. Seriously though, how much longer can LeBron keep doing this? He played all 48 minutes tonight, scored 40 points, and was 1 assist from a triple double. He will be 39 years old next season and, as much as he is a complete freak of nature, time has to catch up to him eventually.
  20. This is my biggest concern. The Cubs are at the point where they are supposed to be turning the corner and entering their new competitive window with a fresh supply of minor leaguers to drive their success. Their minor league situation has improved substantially, but they still lack any real difference makers and there is no clear path to obtaining any. It would be great if they could make video game trades where multiple "pretty good" prospects can be exchanged for one really good prospect, but that just doesn't happen. They will likely have plenty of minor leaguers who can fill roster spots, but they can't count on those guys to come up and create a new Rizzo/Bryant/Baez core. So that basically leaves us back where they are going to need to spend themselves out of this hole if they are serious about competing, and are they really willing to do that?
  21. It's still early, but Mervis is hitting the ball on the ground way too much.
  22. I hate it. I guess we were spoiled by the consistency of Harry & Steve, Chip & Steve, Len & Bob, Len & JD, etc. Boog is fine, but I would prefer the Cubs find a quality broadcasting team who could be there every day. I do like hearing Pat on TV, but it has a cascading effect of making the radio broadcast almost unlistenable when he isn't there.
