What a disaster of an inning. The error by Mervis, the misplay by Gomes on the wild pitch, then Tauchman playing prevent defense in CF on what should have been the third out. -
Add another one. Might as well let the pitchers bat.

I meant in general. Velazquez makes a lot more sense on the roster over a guy with no position who also can't hit.

Whatever the Cubs thought they could get out of Rios, they aren't getting it. Wouldn't Nelson Velazquez make a lot more sense right now?

The best part of the Cubs lineup all year has been the Hoerner-Swanson combo at the top of the order. So let's mess with that and put a terrible hitter in the leadoff spot instead.

Haven't we seen this before? A "minor" injury, no IL stint needed, followed by going on the IL a few days later, followed by the inevitable longer-than-expected stay on the IL. -
Good thing Ross got Mancini's bat in the lineup.

Playing Mervis twice a week isn't enough. I know he has struggled, but if he's up here, he needs to be getting a chance to figure things out.

It seems Happ has been getting the Schwarber treatment lately. As soon as I saw the location of that pitch, I just knew the umpire was going to ring him up on it.

Anytime Dansby wants to get hot again is ok with me. The OBP is still really good, but SLG isn't.

That's great and all, but if you're going to use him today while trailing by 1, why not use him while you still have the lead? I'm not a fan of back to back days after a multi-inning appearance, but especially not when the team is losing.

Only Alzolay, who is now pitching while trailing after having thrown 2 innings yesterday. He'll be burnt out soon.

The Wesneski move has certainly paid off. The chances of Rucker getting through multiple scoreless innings would have been slim to none.

The offense may well be the same, but I kind of like this version where the pitchers flirt with no hitters and/or shutouts every game.
