  1. Reading the update on Brennen Davis, what the hell is "core muscle surgery"? Are they just making up injuries for him at this point?
  2. Fractured elbow. All things considered, maybe not the worst possible scenario? The UCL is supposedly still in tact, but he'll be out again until at least spring training.
  3. It looks like Mervis left the game early yesterday and isn't in the lineup tonight. Anyone know what happened?
  4. Similarly, I'm a bit curious about the algorithm for the levels (A, AA, AAA, etc.). I have seen some people with similar post counts who are right around the same level as me, and others who are at a much higher level for no apparent reason. It doesn't really matter at all, but I still wonder what kind of black magic is going on under the hood.
  5. There is also Option C - Continue to ride Tauchman in CF and Bellinger at 1B. There doesn't seem to be any reason to do anything else at this point unless there is another injury or Tauchman's performance falls off a cliff.
  6. Amaya back in the lineup is nice to see. Although now it is Swanson we have to worry about. Hopefully the 3 days off will be enough for him to heal up and get back in the lineup against the Cardinals.
  7. We very nearly had a Barnhart and Madrigal HR in the same game. I wonder what the odds would have been on that parlay.
  8. My least favorite starter on the staff by far. He's no better than a 5th starter on a good team, but he's being paid way more than that.
  9. I still love Dave Martinez, and this was a classic rant. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/37855335/baseline-call-astros-wild-win-draws-nationals-ire And by the way, he is right.
  10. Nobody is capable of running away with this division. The Cubs have about as good a chance as anyone
  11. Imagine throwing 5 straight balls to Tucker Barnhart.
  12. Oh, I agree with that, but I don't think David Ross necessarily does. If Bellinger being back in the lineup means that Mervis is only going to get 2 starts a week, then let him play everyday in Iowa. I would much rather the Cubs continue to run Mervis out 4-5 days a week, but that clearly isn't going to happen right now.
  13. It has to be Mervis. He needs a reset at this point. Let him get going again in AAA and then bring him back up to play everyday later in the season.
  14. It should. I know, attendance and advertising and everything else, but I used to love going to a mid-week day game.
  15. Nah, Seiya won't go on the DL for at least a few more days.
  16. Watching it again a few times, Happ didn't take a great route to the ball. He ran more parallel to the wall rather than angling back toward the wall to give himself a chance to make the catch. He probably did the "right" thing for most situations to not turn the hit into a triple, but this wasn't most situations.
  17. I don't know. That ball was hit pretty hard. Could Happ have caught it, and are those the type of plays that someone usually has to come up with for a successful no-hit bid? Yeah, probably.
  18. I'm still watching, but I'm not sure how much more I can take. It's not just that they are bad. There is simply no compelling reason to watch. They are such a boring version of bad with nothing at all to look forward to or get excited about.
  19. Agree on Happ. He's a decent enough hitter, but not enough power for the position.
  20. The ranking of the farm system is debatable, but even if we agree that it is a Top 10 system, it is much closer to 10 than it is to 1, and also doesn't stand out against any other minor league system in the NL Central. At best, the Cubs have reached a point where their system is on par with the rest of the division. I also don't see anything at the minor league level that is really going to change the trajectory of the Major League team over the next few years. So with a lack of high-level impact talent, how does this team make up ground to compete next year and beyond? I don't think they do. Barring a spending spree, my current thinking is the Cubs are going to be a middling team for the foreseeable future.
  21. They will always be the California Angels to me. And I'll be deep in the cold, cold ground before I recognize Missourah.
