  1. I thought he did, but it looks like he might have the right to elect free agency.
  2. I would have him up tomorrow and at 1B. Put Tauchman in RF and sit Seiya down. Unfortunately that would mean Amaya needs to go down (along with Wisdom most likely), but that's not the worst thing in the world right now.
  3. He has 3 years left and is making $20M next year. Nobody is going to touch that contract.
  4. There are a lot of parallels. They both started out so promising.
  5. The best part of Mancini's .635 OPS is that he's doing it almost exclusively in a strict platoon. A right handed platoon first baseman needs to really mash lefties to have any value whatsoever.
  6. Having the two coldest hitters (not named Mancini) hitting 2nd and 3rd isn't working out.
  7. This would be a really good time for a double steal to avoid the DP with Seiya.
  8. The bullpen has done their part. This would be a good time to get a few runs.
  9. Why not include Wisdom in the deal? He's not the long term answer for the Cubs and still has SOME value. Wouldn't a team like Washington be interested in him as a replacement for Candelario?
  10. You can't. And then if you somehow get to the playoffs, you have to cobble together a 4 man rotation without your best (or second best) starter.
  11. Any team that makes the playoffs can be considered a contender, so it becomes more about the likelihood of making the playoffs. The problem is they are still partially buried in the hole they dug themselves in the first half of the season, with multiple teams in front of them in both the division and Wild Card races. That means whatever the Cubs add needs to either (1) provide value beyond 2023, or (2) make it more likely than not they will make up enough ground to secure a playoff spot this year. Ideally though, you would try to do both.
  12. Posting here as this seems most relevant to this thread based on it's title... I get that having all the separate articles might help drive traffic from an SEO standpoint, but these forums feel like a disorganized mess now. There have been attempts to consolidate posts into single trade deadline threads, but other threads and articles continue to pop up. It's great that we have more people posting, but the activity is way too fragmented for my liking. I don't know what the right answer is, but I don't think the answer is having 5 separate ongoing conversations about the trade deadline.
  13. All things considered, that was a respectable performance by Hendricks today. If nothing else, the bullpen will be fresh going into the Cincinnati series.
  14. To be fair, Matz had several strikes called balls today.
  15. I find the lip smacking on TV to be a bit annoying. For whatever reason, I don't notice it in radio or it just doesn't get picked up on those broadcasts, but I hear it a lot when he does TV.
  16. I didn't have getting dominated by Steven Matz on my list of possible outcomes today.
  17. Reminds me of my little league kids with the first baseman chasing the ball across the infield.
  18. A lot of weak contact in the air for Cubs batters so far today.
  19. A week ago I was dreaming of the unlikely scenario where the Cubs would take 5 of 6 from the Sox and Cardinals to get back into the race. Forget that. Go get the sweep!
  20. Not a terrible idea to get Happ a day off against a lefty.
  21. Someday we will all tell our grandkids about the Cubs team that was on the verge of trading their best players and then never lost again.
  22. Wow. That's gotta be a huge confidence boost for Palencia. Really interesting that Assad wasn't allowed to continue into the 9th, but maybe Ross is trying to keep him fresh for possible long relief spots?
