  1. :D Hehe.
  2. It is. Sharing the fact what wasn't what I took issue with. The commentary upon it was. Uhhhh... O.K.
  3. Just sharing, that's all. This is a message board, right?
  4. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=lukas/060308&lpos=spotlight&lid=tab6pos3 Apparently the CoolFlo helmets will allow air to pass through the helmet, preventing us from becoming such hot heads. No word if they'll be worn by pitchers. Seriously, though... aren't there other things to worry about? EDIT: Fixed Link.
  5. How often has Kenny done that?
  6. Why do we keep comparing out teams to the '03 team. They were dead lucky to get into the playoffs with 88 wins, and it won't happen this year. Even though the NL stinks, I'd be shocked if 88 wins get us a division again. Comparing this team to a slightly above average team shouldn't be a source of hope. That being said, I still don't think anyone in the Central is better. Not saying that we're all that great, but who - on paper - is better than the Cubs? The Stros/Cards/Cubs/Brewers have to be considered the favorites simply based on most teams being equal.
  7. I wrote about this before (duing the WS fallout). I'm a teacher, and though kids are fickle and fairweather by nature, about 75% of my kids (West Suburbs) are showing great, great interest in the Sox. I printed off 100 Cubs and 100 Sox Skeds, and the Sox are nearly gone, while I can't give away the Cubs skeds. In fact, I do. The idea of changing the culture can't happen in the next two or three years, but over the next 10 or so. If the White Sox want that to happen, then they'll have to keep winning, which isn't unreasonable considering their off season. And with the Cubs propensity to be drama queens and wimp out by August, they won't have much competition earning the adoration of young kids - future customers to baseball organizations. I can see how the Sox constantly feel like a step kid in this town. The Trib runs tons of Cubs stuff, and though the Score and SunTimes are heavily White Sox focused, nobody takes them seriously. The Sox even got hosed on the SI cover. ESPN didn't even mention them as Sportsmen of the Year, let alone the "Top 10 stories fo the year." All that is lost publicity, which is lost revenue. Until the National Media and the "culture" considers the Sox on even keel witht the Cubs, they'll be unhappy. They'll lose out on tourist dollars and even local dollars. Until they can have some appeal, they'll continue to bitch and moan about being "second class."
  8. And silly over spending shall continue! I bet Rusch could have nailed down a 4/40 contract easy, as bad as this market is going. Good think Hendu got him locked up early!
  9. Bad calls happen all the time, and blaming the success/failure of anyone due to officiating/upiring is immature. Sure, you can make the "what if" arguements, but so can anyone. A LOT of things have to go your way to be successful, and only one of them is the umpiring. Lots of players have come and gone through successful systems (Patriots, Braves, Yankees, etc) who are only successful with that team. It's coaching, atmosphere, and the players willingness to perform. The officiating/umpiring has such a small fraction to do with it, it's not worth your time.
  10. Holy Crap. The Mets are getting better literaly every day.
  11. Great. I was wondering how long that would take. They'll lose Grudz, then sign Nomar reaaaaaal cheap (has anyone even heard his name being mentioned... what's his going price?). He'd go back to .330 AVG days if he played for them. Oh, and a Gold Glove  .
  12. Much better, ITC!!! I'm glad you have a sense of humor. Boss Hogg... if you checked out the whole thread, I did apollogize to ManEatingTarp about my comment. Read the whole threa - wait. You're from Arkansas. UBlink... Beautiful. LMAO!
  13. Dude, no offense, but could you take an extra minute or two and improve punctuation and grammar in your posts. I'm not exactly an English major, but your posts have got to be getting passed up by more than just me. EDIT: Please reduce the size of Pujols' mid-life crisis pic, too. Thanks!
  14. Sorry Tarp... just being a little silly/jealous. The $$ AJ's bound to get is ridiculous. But I think the Cards are infatuated with the idea of front-line pitching, and since the market is thin elsewhere, overpaying for Burnett isn't exactly the worst thing. I can't imagine people want to work with Walt Jocketty as easily as in the past (he's really hosed some people, in retrospect), so trading may not be easy right now either. Plus, who wants to make a team that's won 205 games in the last 2 years better? If the Cards are going to overpay, it makes sense to do it in pitching. A Rotation of (if healthy and at peak performance - two BIG ifs) Carpenter, Mulder, Burnett, Suppan, and Anthony Reyes could be very, very sick. Not that I think they'll all stay healthy, or will it last beyond this year, but STL would only have about $30 mil spent on a real good rotation, even with the Burnett signing (if it happens).
  15. Apparently, dude grew up a Cards fan in Arkansas. It apprears that the Cards are hoping the mullet memories are so strong, he'll take a little less to be a hillbilly again. http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/stories.nsf/cardinals/story/E742A5F5027284D1862570CB001F9F6F?OpenDocument If the Cards expect that Monday "deadline" to be a promise, they're really, really dumb. Setting a deadline the day Winter Meetings begin is a pretty obvious negotiation move.
  16. No, it's not "pathetic" if a 9-2 ND team makes a BCS game. It's terrible if an 8-4 FSU team makes it though. Between them and South Florida (even though they lost), that would invalidate any meaning a BCS game has. How else is ND supposed to make a BCS game? They have no conference, and even if they went 11-0 people would say they're undeserving. 9-2 is pretty good, and you can argue they and a number of teams* could/should make the BCS instead, but it's not "pathetic." EDIT: Really, you can only make a legit arguement for Ohio State, Auburn, Texas Tech and maybe Oregon. It's "pathetic" a good ND team can't get any love.
  17. So, this would all but cement DLee's departure after this year. If we've given 2 players $100 million contracts, he's gone because we couldn't afford him. This deal has a snowball's chance.
  18. Oh, Careless, I'm not dogging the people who post and read transaction news. I'm one of them. I just get sick of seeing the media report every single happening. It gets annoying, that's all.
  19. He still looks pretty good? He threw 2 interceptions last night, one which was run back for a touchdown in a game where his team lost by 3. Favre's 2005 decline is visible. Just like Earned Runs in baseball, INT's arent' always a QB's fault. I don't remember much of the game Monday night, but I can specifically remember 1 not being his fault. I did also see 3 dropped passes. I didn't see the one where it was run back for a TD, but Farve's always thrown a few INT's. If his team had a running game (or perhaps some defense - how does and offense run by Brad Johnson score 20 points?!) Oh, and I'm a Bears fan, too. I just don't like the idea of seeing a great QB being benched for the sake of his successor being "developed." If he's a good QB, he'll be ready when asked. See: Orton, Kyle; Brady, Tom; Roethlesberger, Ben. "Groomed" QB's like Ryan Leaf and Cade McNown didn't work out so well. If you're good, you'll succeed, no matter how you're developed. Unless Dusty allows you to throw over 100 passes a game.
  20. This is what happens when people cover the offseason transactions too much (in regards to the press). This happens all the time. Teams discuss trades, pull out of trades, change trades, have last minute fears about them... when ESPN and other outlets cover ever second of transactions, they look like idiots. Instead of reporting "so and so are close to a deal," how about just waiting until it's all done. I think we're free to discuss what we want, its our time and our imaginations at work. But when "news" organizations are constantly correcting and arguing about facts of rumors, it's obnoxious. There are more important things to discuss, like where TO's doing his situps today. :?
  21. Do they? I understand the sentimental value of bringing a sports team to NO/LA, but aren't there more important things to worry about right now? NO owner will entirely fund a stadium, and I don't think any citizen would be willing to pay for stadium.
  22. I don't think that's necessarily true. You need to have a balance of veterans acquired through acquisitions and homegrown talent. Crede, Rowand, Garland, McCarthy (to an extent), Konerko, Jenks, and Ozuna were all people brought up through the Sox farm system in one way or another (I could be wrong about Konerko). A bunch of others were critical FA/Trades. I haven't seen a lot of youth that the Sox have traded away (under Williams) that has haunted them.
  23. That's a good question. I really don't know. Over the last 5 or 6 years, I'm guessing the Cardinals have the best regular season record in the NL. They're always winning 90 + games. However, isn't the main goal winning the WS? I'd be THRILLED with the Cubs winning division titles like your Cards have, but wouldn't it be better to see them win a WS? The Cards offense is good, don't get me wrong. But come playoff time, they seem to crumble catastrophically in one series. It's actually quite strange. They're a much better team then they've shown the last couple years at the end of the playoffs.
  24. I don't think there is much in the works. Back in the '80s, there was some talk of relocating a team to Indy and a feasibility study was done, IIRC. This was shortly after the Colts move, so there was some minor momentum. In fact, I think they may have even floated a name (the Indianapolis Arrows?). I think it would be a difficult market with regard to current MLB expectations. Not to mention the fact that it sustains a very nice AAA facility presently. However, I don't live in Indy, so I'm sure there are people with more info than me. Well said, JC. I just don't see Indy being able to support an MLB team. Economically, the city isn't in real good shape, where Portland and Charlotte have a much more positive economic reputation with projected growth. Charlotte, for one, has nearly doubled in size the last 10-15 years, and the school systems in the area are some of the fastest growing in the nation. I've heard nothing but good things about Portland from people I know there. I think it would be neat to see one there. I lived in the Raleigh-Durham area, and I don't think they could support an MLB team quite as well as Charlotte. I think the success of the Panthers there would suggest the Queen City as a better fit. I don't know who mentioned it, but an MLB team in San Antonio would be a very good idea. It brings a major hispanic population a popular team. However, that didn't work out too well in FLA, either. I would hope it would mirror the success of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim of Orange County Of Southern California in the United States of America, where Latino leadership on and off the field has been a rousing success with the Hispanic fanbase.
  25. Why? Brett Farve deserves to play, and isn't the problem with that crappy team. Actually, I think he still looks pretty good.
