  1. Then he'll be here next week. The only question is, will we give up Hill, Guzman and Marshall or just Hill and Guzman?
  2. Of the guys currently on the 25-man roster the only untouchables should be Zambrano and Ramirez, and possibly Dempster.
  3. This two year stretch is as miserable as any I can remember in the 30 years I've followed these clowns. The pre-Dallas Green 80s would probably be the previous low point in my Cub-watching years IMO. Yeah, they've sucked more than they've been good in that stretch but more often than not they've either been entertaining or given you some hope for the future. I'm seeing neither right now. I wrote at the end of last year that Dusty has sucked all the joy out of being a Cub fan. That's more true now than it was last September. There is nothing enjoyable about watching this team and there hasn't been for a long, long time. The only reason I'll even think about tuning in for the Sox games is the possibility that there might be one hell of a fight.
  4. Yet Larry Rothschild still has a job.
  5. I'd rather have my rectum examined than watch Sox game.
  6. What's sad about this is that the most surprising part about that list is that we're actually beating someone in home runs and slugging. What's sad is Gene Clines and Gary Matthews still have jobs in Chicago.
  7. Of the guys currently on the 25-man roster the only ones that should be untouchable are Ramirez and Zambrano and maybe Dempster. Everybody else should be available for the right deal.
  8. And the hay's already in the barn as far as this year is concerned. They aren't sold out for the rest of the year but they've certainly sold a ton of tickets already. A boycott does no good, especially when you have tourist sheep who are going to make Wrigley part of their trip to Chicago regardless of how the team is playing.
  9. There is absolutely nothing wrong with what Barrett did in either the Roberts or Oswalt situations. The Astros didn't earn the wildcard in 2004 because Michael Barrett got in Roy Oswalt's face after Oswalt deliberately drilled him. The Astros earned the Wildcard because the Cubs were a bunch of choking dogs who couldn't put away two craptacular teams the last week of the season. If Juan Pierre, or any other Cub, had done something similar to what Roberts did to a team struggling like the Cubs are he most likely would have gone in the dirt on the first pitch of his next at-bat. That's baseball. It'd be nice if we had a few more guys who, at least once in awhile, didn't keep their emotions in check.
  10. That doesn't surprise me. Anyone who thinks the folks at the Trib care about winning a World Series is fooling himself. All they care about is putting butts in the seats each day. As long as tourists continue to make a game at Wrigley a part of their trip to Chicago they don't have to go all out to put a winner on the field. And they won't. They'll continue to half-ass it and sign guys who used to be good to make it look like they're trying in the offseason. You won't see a significant free agent signing by this franchise until there is an ownership change.
  11. I think the only way we can realistically expect Baker to not be back is if he decides he doesn't want to be back and doesn't accept the extension. I still think there's a chance that he greases the skids for his own exit by saying and doing things that dare Hendry to fire him.
  12. If Hendry insists on collecting 2003 Marlins he should make the next logical step and hire Jack McKeon.
  13. Ok, they're just a grand slam away from being a three-run homer away from winning this thing.
  14. Is Guzman the pitcher of record or was it still tied when he left?
  15. They have direct deposit Ok, that made me laugh.
  16. After today the Cubs will be winless when trailing after nine innings.
  17. The thing that kills me is that it always seems like the Cubs have a new plan every couple of years but that plan NEVER involves starting from scratch or going for broke on the free agent market. Regardless of the GM you never see the Cubs do either of the following: 1. Make a splash with a big-ticket FA signing or two in the offseason. 2. Strip it down to the frame and play a bunch of kids. Nope, instead we get the mediocre retread free agents who used to be good along with the crappy trash that had a semi-decent year for the Cubs last season with one or two rookies thrown in just to make it look good. Yeah the FA market last year wasn't great but there was absolutely no reason for clowns like Rusch or Neifi Freakin' Perez to be picking up checks at Wrigley every week.
  18. Do the idiots in charge not see what is happening on the field? It's one thing if you go through a bad streak due to injuries but this team has looked listless and uninterested pretty much since the start of LAST season yet nothing has been done to turn over the coaching staff. The Cubs have been the dumbest team in baseball since the start of the 2003 season. The only common thread over those three years has been the manager.
  19. Our fans aren't mean enough. There should be garbage all over the field now. I mean, besides the players.
  20. Why are we using our good bullpen guys in a game that's out of reach?
  21. Only Dusty could overwork a seven-man pen.
  22. Walker pinch hits, sac fly, Murton scores, Hairston to third. 8-4 now.
  23. I couldn't care less if the next manager "knew" Chicago or what it was like to be a Cubs fan. I don't need a fan managing, I want to see a smart manager. But you need manager that understands this city and the Cubs history. You need someone with pride. Look no further to the south side and you have a manager that bleeds with Sox pride and instilled that into his players. I tell you what a manager that knows the Cubs history would've freaking went out to talk to Mark Prior after the bartman play that's for sure.... No, you need a manager who wins.
