Derosa in the trib.... DeRosa came up as a shortstop. He played mostly third base for Texas in 2006 and has played a lot of outfield during his career. He said second base is the position he most wanted to play. "I just feel more comfortable there,'' he said. "It's a position I felt comfortable playing in Texas.'' That's it i'm done,pretty clear he's been promised 2B so thats him and i can't hit izturis down the middle. Don't think an OF ruth ,Aaron and Ted/Billy Williams could save that IF. Is Glendon retiring or what?? cos at least thats him and perez gone. I'm guessing he will retire as hendry is already paying out for mediocre replacements.

I'm not happy, i'm not ready to throw the toys out the pram just yet, i do have a question though-why not Lugo or Durham? What about the idea of Derosa playing ss instantly upping the production of that position by god knows what,then sign durham trade 'Izzy' and Cedeno for a bag of balls how's that sound?? We then lose izturis salary and have replaced him with better production.

If we're not going to give an oppotunity to Cedeno,Theriot,Moore then Hendry better find someone to take them that will give us a legit power bat in return. What spot did Derosa hit in last year??.

Why do we need a better LF? If we upgraded in other positions? Drew is flat out a better player than Lee. He can hit,defend, get on base, hit the long ball drive in runs. He could also play CF. The upgrade from someone like pierre to him is astronomical, the upgrade from Murton to Lee is not astronomical if you put someone like drew in CF and Durham at 2B. Thats 3 On Base machines to place in your lineup. Murton also runs well and will have far better range than Lee.Murtons trade value will be far higher in coming years to boot.

'The Cubs do need to add one more pitcher. Two would be nice, but I think with the addition of one solid to very good pitcher, the Cubs could be ok.' Vance i mostly agree with everything you post as you talk alot of sense however i think we need more than one solid pitcher and i don't think Meche and Padilla would be the answer.

CUBZ99 You have to also add the fact that it was Murtons first full season and like another poster pointed out if you take out matts awful june he batted 311. He will be far more valuable for the amount of money comapred to talent than C-Lee on a multi year contract. Another aspect to consider is the inevitable M Cabrera derby, we will require quality young players like murton to even have the slightest chance of trading for miggy.

Post All Star Murton: .319/.390/.522 (.911OPS) CLee: .311/.358/.512 (.870 OPS) Soriano: .283/.367/.572 (.940 OPS) Can someone please e-mail these stats to the Ramirez bashing jurnos. Then when we get one of these overpriced sluggers they can bash them for not producing any better than our current LF. Oh no they'll present Soriano as the 2nd coming of Billy Wiliiams.

Looking at our SP situation, who from the minors has the inside track?? are we all decided that guzman, marmol,mateo and Ryu are AAAA pitchers or will they get another look?? Who arrives first Gallagher or Veal??. One more to think about should we unload Epatt while his value would appear to be sky high??

I am amazed that we've no interest in Drew, Hendry and Baker always loved the idea of a LH stick in between Lee and Aram. Drew would also solve our sick team OBP, i guess he just makes to much sense to go after.

'why would u be afraid of trading Murton for Westbrook and then getting Lee. You replace left with a better leftfielder and then get an arm for the rotation.' If you take in to account Murtons potential and Lees possible decline together with the cost of each i take murton every time.

Anyone else feel that this year is Murtons big one? it came late last year but i feel he finally figured it out 2nd half (i'm lazy can someone put his splits post all-star against C-Lees and Sorianos!!?? Thanks in advance!). if he hits similar to his 2nd half in front of D-Lee,Aram, + Another i could see 20 HRS and 80 RBis no problem. I'd like him to hit 2nd in the lineup, if we get Durham that could be a problem.

Levine also stated no interest from the cubs in C Lee, that tells me The Big Murt will start the season in LF.

Read further in todays Daily Herald, He tallks about Lou having to watch fat,lazy Aramis why is it never mentioned about Dusty asking him to take it easy?? such one eyed reporting.........

I'd rather bet on Prior and Woods arms lasting all year than zito peforming like a #1 starter this year. To me at that money he should gurantee me 15+ wins and an ERA below 4 niether will happen wherever he ends up.

'If it were up to me I'd just give the Yanks Z and forget about 2007. That's vastly preferrable to the Soriano proposals I'm seeing, and IMO a 2007 run is unlikely anyway.' Let's not get hasty here!!!! might come to that if JH doesn't get z extended though.

If you can gurantee that Jones,Dempsters,Izturis and Ruschs contracts are gone then i would think about making a play for Soriano. How much are those 4 contracts together?? $17 mill?

Another note about the $$ , what happens if Prior finally turns it around? we will need to lock both him and Z up + the SP we need to at least have a better than mediocre rotation. If the money used on Soriano lets prior walk and he 'does a Maddux' there's going to be alot of people wondering why the hell we got in to the soriano contract in the 1st place.

Yes you give up players but you get quality talent back. It's alot easier to replace a guy like Eyre or even a guy like Hill (i like him too but it was only 1/2 a year) than get the skills an elite player like A-Rod offers. Soriano just isn't an elite player to justify that type of contract.

Its all very well saying 'im not worried get it done' etc,etc but he really isn't an elite player along the lines of A-rod,Cabrera,Pujols or even Manny. IMO it would be very short sighted to give anything over 5 yrs $80. Even that figure leaves you in a bind if he gets injured etc. If this guy was the answer to all our problems yes go out and get it done but his skills do not equate to the $$$ people are talking about.

From the Sun-times this morning......... 'as it stands now, the Cubs are saving their biggest money for Soriano.' cdeluca@suntimes.com He also states that Piniella wanted Soriano from the get go and also says the Angels are determined to outbid the cubs after the Aram situation. Why's Stoneman got such a beef about a club re-signing a player?, not like we're in thier league let alone division. Deluca is the 3rd beat writer/jurno i have read/heard say that Soriano is no 1 on the cubs radar. I'm worried about the amount of yrs and $ we might give.........
