  1. So where do we go from here?? I am really concearned about CF and SP. Is the plan to start Pie next year? you can't have him and Izturis in the same team. Anyone else get the feeling it's Floyd,Marquis hope for lofton and then call it an off season??? If we don't add a quality starter we are going to have to go with the hope and pray situation which has dogged Hendrys tenure as gm. I also fear that we'll let Jaque Jones go for nothing ie some idiot like Rodrigo Lopez when his contract and numbers make him attractive for a number of teams (including us as a CF) So as people have said before me the winter meetings are over and there is as many questions as before, we really need to get the SP situation sorted and not get ripped in a Jaque Jones trade.
  2. If we get Marquis on the cheap that tells me Jock is gone for a bag of balls rather than a serviceable starter as i'd hoped. I can't wait for cubs.com 'jones traded for 2 PTBNL who turn out to be monkey crap 1 and his brother 2.'
  3. I have no idea why you wouldn't just give Guz or Marshall the chance at No5? Hell i'd rather have Veal or Gallager in the majors............
  4. Just say no to trades with the 'os! unless they want Izzy!!!
  5. ESPN1000 reporting this deal is set to fall through and that they couldn't work it out.
  6. Hendry now needs to add 2 starters, we appear to have lost out on Meche. Not that i wanted Meche but that seemed to be the plan and then to trade Jones and trash for a serviceable pitcher.Would something like Dempster,Ohman and Marshall get us any SP? What about Jones,Marmol and Cedeno? Would anyone else think about offering Veal and Pie for Peavy,Harden or Haren??(get well asap jim)
  7. I can tell u r thrilled , it's for 1 year no financial details guess he's just Mabury mark 2??
  8. Per Bruce levine ESPN1000. Will be announced in 2 days........
  9. I'm afraid most teams will ask the cubs for more than we should give....why??? Look no further than Nolasco,Pinto and Mitre for the 1 yr rental of JP. I guess teams are relying on Hendry to overpay .....again.
  10. I'll be amazed if we don't go as high as anyone on schmidt. Possibly Meche and Westbrook would interest me but if your talking about Weaver,Marquis or another reclamation project i'll take my chances with Marshall and Guzman.
  11. Vance , do you thinl we have the pieces for A Jones?? If we'd sign Lugo for SS i'd take my chances on Pie and bat him 8th
  12. Bruce (sorry to bug you!!) How do you see the rotation shaking out for the cubs?? 2 lesser FA? one final Q, do you see Jones in CF or is he gone?? thanx again your a star.... 8)
  13. Bruce, Can we definetely rule the cubs out on Igawa if the bid is $25 mill?? Thanx in advance.
  14. Anyone hear the update on espn1000?? Levine was muttering something but i just missed it.
  15. I've come full circle after thinking about this, i was thinking about the old debate of win now vs win later and Pitching vs hitting and then i wondered what happens if you go cheap on the pitching and defence but end up with this RF Soriano SS Lugo 1B D Lee LF Manny 3B Rammy C Barrett 2B Derosa CF Pie(if you managed to keep him in the Manny trade)or someone serviceable such as Lofton or perhaps the riot?? I know what everyones going to say but just look at that lineup 8)
  16. If this is true we should be looking at Drew or Manny. If you can get either and lose Jock + Eyre/Howry your still in a position to go after pitching FA or Via trade. If numbers add up and the payroll is $125 mill Hendry still has alot of flexibility at $95 Mill. Not to mention being able to give Z his money.......
  17. Manny,Jones,Soriano in the OF??? man that's going to be an adventure........ :)
  18. Press Conference tomorrow??? Hot Stove seems to of gone preety cold, Hopefully by the end of the week we are going to here something about our rotation.
  19. Got this off Inside the Ivy.......... 'According to Kevin Kennedy on MLB Radio on XM Satellite Radio and Tim Kurkjian of ESPN Radio, the Cubs and outfielder Cliff Floyd are closing in on a one year contract worth up to a maximum of nine million dollars. What does this do for the outfield? Also, Floyd told Newsday that the Cubs were his first choice' Came from a poster over there, $9 Mill??????!!!!wow....................
  20. Can't let this one go, just listened to Dan Patrick from yesterday quote 'Soriano will only hit bad pitching , if your pitching staff is bad watch out, if he faces tough pitcher it's 0-4 everyday. Good luck to the cubs , ride him to the playoffs but count on him to do nothing after that'. Any of our stats people want to look if this is factually correct, what are his numbers like against Oswalt Carpenter etc? How did he do against Floridas staff last year? they seemed to have a pretty decent team era.Maybe Patricks right but i'd sure like to know.
  21.    Just listened to olneys Podcast from last night, cubs overpaid blah blah blah but (get this) the redsox did an excallent job because pitching ALWAYS WINS. I'm scratching my head.......does pitching win even if its never pitched in the major leagues?? if so just promote Veal and gallagher and then we'll be smart too..........
  22. 'When was this? Did they say how close the cubs were or is it merely speculation?' Last update was 10.20- More peculation than fact-could be the next signing, not will be the next signing.
  23. Haven't heard that this offer has gone in yet, however latest update on ESPN1000 quotes levine as saying schmidt could be the next to sign for the cubs.
  24. Don't know if this has been posted..... Lugo Next? Rosenthal still believes we're targeting Lugo. Sorry if link doesn't work i'm not very techwise!!
  25. ;. Dave Roberts - The guy has been a productive lead off man for about 3 years now. .350's OBP and will steal about 35 to 50 bases a year!' Lineup CF Roberts RF Soriano This isn't happening, Soriano is here to lead of and he's been guaranteed that by hendry.
