  1. there may be hope yet . . . I just read that Piniella already said he won't take the Nats job because they are rebuilding.
  2. Instead of spending the 4-5 million over 3 years to get Piniella hired you might as well save the cash for players and hire Girardi for 1/2 the cost.
  3. I honestly think Lou will be our manager come next week...
  4. http://www.nypost.com/seven/10102006/sports/yankees/hes_joe_ing_nowhere_yankees_george_king.htm That means the Uncle Lou watch is back on!
  5. What's the point of these token interviews? Why waste your time? Does Hendry want to expense lunch/dinner or something...
  6. I honestly don't see Bochy getting axed this year. Who would he be replaced by? Of all the current managers avaiable he's the best of the bunch. Pads would be stupid to get rid of him this year...
  7. I'm not so sure about that. I think the Yanks will move AROD. I can't imagine how bad next year will be for him. The fans are going boo him beyond belief next year. If he's not traded it'll be a very long year for him...
  8. Just heard this morning that Lou is going to NY. So with that it looks like Girardi or perhaps Bochy is our man.
  9. That's what I think also. I think we'll get Girardi by default...
  10. Wow! That is brutal!
  11. While I don't want Piniella, I still can't see how Girardi and the Cubs are a match made in heaven. I'd rather have someone who is not so tied to the conventional wisdom, small ball, method of management. Largely, Vance, I agree with you. However, I REALLY don't want Piniella, and while Girardi is a bit of a conventional wisdom type of guy, I don't think he is to the same extent as many of the other old-school types. I would not complain at all if we hired Girardi (even if he's not perfect), but I sure would complain if we hired Piniella. Until a hire is made, I'll still hold out hope for a good hire, not an acceptable one. I'm not sold on Girardi at all. And from what the Marlins bloggers had to say, my fears about Girardi seem to be well-founded. After reading that I'm also kinda leary...
  12. Unfortunately there's a lot to complain about and very little not to complain about...
  13. Man, I can't stand re-makes!
  14. Anyone know if Uncle Lou understands the importance of OBP?
  15. Sounds like a Cub-like move...
  16. That's a promise he should not keep. There's no reason why he'd need to to an extensive search. That's just a euphemism for "I have no idea what I'm doing." And the Cubs will tell you, Hendry is just methodical.
  17. No way...He intereviewed for the Chicago job 4 years ago and didn't get it. I don't think Showalter will manage for a while...
  18. Bingo. You are exactly right. This team needs a serious shake up....like when Dallas Green/Jim Fry came in. Something big. Moves like promoting the marketing guy to be President....is like making the Cruise Director Captain of the ship. It's very small time, and likely to end in disaster. Not that disaster really even matters anymore.....after 2003....this year....all the other years....honestly.....how could it get any worse? Very hard to be optimistic about things. I'm beginning to think some on here are talking about a subject they really know nothing about. The president of a baseball/football/hockey/basketball team primary responsibility is not on the field stuff, but off the field(business)stuff. Again, if a president hires the "right" baseball operations guys then the president doesn't have to know much on the field stuff. Andy MacPhail was bad because he didn't hire good people. The president's major role is more of the business side than the operational side. I don't see what the big deal is with John McDonough as prez? Think of it this way, in the entire Cubs Organzation he is the only one that actually does his job, and does it very well. I like the fact that's he's hungry and wants to win. He's has no lorals to sit on (like MacPhail) and wants to prove himself. Nothing wrong with that. Let's see how he does.
  19. The funny thing about all three is they are all a bit similar. If that's the case go for the one that's going to cost the less.
  20. If he felt that way he would've hired a manager already.
  21. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cubs/84784,CST-SPT- cub05.article Why wouldn't "losing out" concern Hendry? If he knows who he wants go get him. Is he just going to wait and just take the last man standing? Unless it's another Baker situation and he wants one of the guys in the playoffs. No team is due to let go of any of the managers in the playoffs, and I haven't seen him mention any of the coaches that are in the playoffs... javascript:emoticon I'm just reaching here cc...give with me a little! :D If this drags and Hendry ends up with Lou, I ain't gunna be too happy. I agree. The last thing we need is another crusty old Vet. who doesn't have patience for kids...
