  1. Maybe to some, sure. But I, for one, never thought Hendry thought Izturis was the great savior at SS. People who think Hendry is an idiot and a bad GM will look at the simplest of post-trade news conference quotes and turn them into more fodder for hating Hendry. What else is the guy supposed to say at the "I just traded Greg Maddux" news conference? That the guy we got in return isn't what we hoped he would be? Yeah, welcome to Chicago, Cesar. The reaction to that trade on this board was mind-boggling to me. As far as the Aramis NTC, I certainly had no idea if he had one back then. But if its true, it just goes to show how many of the opinions we carry are really only based on what we think we know instead of the whole truth. Umm ok, that's exactly why people give Hendry a hard time because he is the GM and he was the one that got garbage for Maddux. Considering how important it is to Hendry having players that can catch the ball I put the blame squarely on his shoulders. What did you expect to get for Maddux? Just curious?
  2. I agree. Retaining or replacing Aram is not enough by itself. We also need to add Soriano in CF or ARod at SS and get Jones a platoon partner. I'm not sure we have to do all of that. Add Soriano and get some pitching. If anything is left over go for more offense.
  3. This is just silly...Wood can't start, and his shoulder isn't strong enough to close? What exactly is he going to do? Stain-stick the other guy's jerseys? If this is true, there is absolutely no reason to waste a roster spot and cash on him. And I say this even though Kerry Wood is my favorite player sine Ryno. Wood will be a setup guy, which means that Eyre or Howry could be dealt in a trade.
  4. As is Prior Career. Sorry...couldn't resist.
  5. I'd rather take my chances with Normar at 3rd.
  6. They don't seem to have any sense of ugency getting him back, so I have to wonder...
  7. I'll bet you 5\75 million he plays CF.
  8. What's the odds that his kid pitches in a ML game before his dad does???
  9. That would be a solid pick up.
  10. He said basically the same thing last night on WGN radio. I was also encouraged that he seemed optimistic about Aramis re-signing. I heard the same thing.
  11. Hip, Hip, Hooray! I'd rather save the 12-13 million and keep Murton in LF.
  12. When are we allowed to want to move on from depending on him? After 3 dissapointing seasons? 4? who said anything about whether or not we could depend on him? i wouldn't really depend on him, but it's not because i think he's a wuss/pansy/less than a man. The last thing I want to do is depend on a pitcher that has no stones! Instead of spending another off season playing video games, I'm hoping Prior actually takes it seriously enough to get his arse off from the couch and lift some weights.
  13. What are you basing this on? Lee got a fantatsic deal. Ramirez is well paid. The offer to Furcal was market value (nobody expected the Dodgers to crazy with their offer). If he says these guys are in his sights, and news reports show Soriano as his number one target, why disbelieve it? Just out of natural Cubs angst? Furcal, Pudge, Beltran.
  14. Hendry has never ever said that. Can we please but this to rest. I was at the Cubs convention last year and Hendry said he never said that nor would he.
  15. ..wasn't able to listen; what do you like about that statement? Players play, pitchers pitch, hitters hit, coaches coach, posters post, etc.....sounds meaningless to me...what was the context? I think he meant that ideally he'd just be in the shadows and the players would produce on their own. Meaning he'd like as much of a "hands off" approach as possible. Thank You! I was trying to articulate my words and had trouble doing so.
  16. I actually like what he's saying. I like the comment that he lets the players play.
  17. Be prepared for the Anti-Stone people. I also enjoy Stone but we are the minority on this board.
  18. Really? I see that happening espically with MacPhail gone.
  19. Yankees aren't going to want Rich Hill, Marmol, Prior, or anyone else but Zambrano.
  20. Will someone please explain to me why people still think of Soriano as a leadoff hitter? Will someone please explain to me why Hendry is going after Carlos Lee? I have no idea! Save the 12 million and kepp Murton out there.
  21. I doubt his a Cub on Opening day. He's good option for a lot of clubs espically with his low pay.
  22. I believe it! And quite frankly they have no choice. Losing viewership to the W.Sox I'm sure was an embarrasment for the Cubs.
  23. Will someone please explain to me why people still think of Soriano as a leadoff hitter? It's where he's most comfortable and his OBP of .368 at the number 1 slot last year ain't all that bad.
  24. I'm not sure if it's dumb. Depends if we can notch another starter to take Z place. Let's face it all the playoff teams this year don't have the best pitching. I'm torn about this. Knowing how easy pitchers get hurt, I'm almost inclined to pull that trigger....
