  1. He's certainly better than the anemic Neifi Perez or Ronny Cedeno. Is he? I mean he was last year, but that's 1 year.
  2. I don't mind overpaying, but overpaying for a player that doesn't make you better is dumb.
  3. On a really, really, really, lesser, lesser, lesser scale.
  4. The more I think about this the more it pisses me off. WTF is Hendry doing? 3/13 mill!
  5. Why 3 years? Was there really a market out there for him that they had to go 3 years?
  6. I really don't see the point of this signing?
  7. that was my thoughts too. theroit isn't proven, but derosa doesn't really seem to be either, though if he can do what he did last year offensively it would be great(mind you that was in texas). AVG .296 | HR 13 | RBI 74 | OBP .357 | SLG .456 not bad. but walker probably would have done about the same. his number are just about identical home\away spilts.
  8. I honestly don't know much about him. Last year stats are solid.
  9. Post All Star Murton: .319/.390/.522 (.911OPS) CLee: .311/.358/.512 (.870 OPS) Soriano: .283/.367/.572 (.940 OPS) That is a great post and quite shocking to say the least.
  10. Also, look at the end result. Lee ($10m+) and Westbrook ($5.5m, plus he's going to be a free agent), or Murton ($350,000) and INSERT FREE AGENT PITCHER HERE ($10m+). You save a lot of money keeping Murton both now, and in the near future. Very true, but I don't think Hendry's capable of basic logic...
  11. Unless Soriano goes to LF. They want Soriano for CF, no?
  12. I'd be severly upset if the Cubs traded Murton. It would be nice to get good production for league minimum out of at least one position on the field. I don't want to trade Murton at all but we all have to agree that right now he probably has the most value. If we trade him for a top of the rotation starter, guys like Bonderman, Bedard, Ervin Santanna, Chris Young, I'd have to consider it. If we get Bedard and Carlos Lee I wouldn't complain, wouldn't be my first choice but I could understand the deal because it would significantly improve our ballclub next year. If the Cubs traded Murton and Wuertz for Westbrook and Michaels and was able to sign Soriano. The OF would not look too bad. Let's sign Soriano first...
  13. I'd be severly upset if the Cubs traded Murton. It would be nice to get good production for league minimum out of at least one position on the field. It depends who they get in return...
  14. I thought Westbrook was a strong candidate to become a Hendry target. 3 straight years of 200+ innings, and below average to very good effectiveness during those innings. I don't believe he's a free agent until after 2008, but he'll make a lot in arbitration following this season. And I'm deathly afraid he'd trade Matt Murton for Westbrook then sign Carlos Lee. He said the Cubs would be trading young bull pen arms for Westbrook which "was the one commodity they had to trade." Also said Lilly was looking for 4/36. Please dont trade Michael Wuertz! Give them anyone else, but hold on to Wuertz, please. Wuertz for Westbrook done deal!
  15. Someone explain that logic to me please. That's what got me. What culture? I don't understand what RAM did to deserve this media bashing. Let's see he worked out in the offseason to be in better shape - stayed healthy last year - improved his defense - Yet, Yet, he's lazy? Ummm...Okay?
  16. The difference is that ARod costs more than the money-he also costs the players that it would take, and then the extra money that it would take to replace those players. Even if we got a good deal (Hill+Erye+ good prospect), we'd still have to replace Hill with one of the pitchers on the FA market, say Padilla for 9 per. Would you want ARod+Padilla for 25 mil or Soriano+Hill for 18 mil, not to mention that Erye and the good prospect are gone also? That's also one of the best case scenarios-if Arod costs more then that, then it becomes harder and harder to replace the talent we'd have to give up. If it were up to me I'd just give the Yanks Z and forget about 2007. That's vastly preferrable to the Soriano proposals I'm seeing, and IMO a 2007 run is unlikely anyway. Why? You just saw a 83 win team win the World Series. The Nat'l is weak. All we need is a creative GM...Wait...Nevermind.
  17. That's a mighty, mighty big "if". Let's not count on Prior for anything. Espically thinking about giving him a big contract when he hasn't been healthy in 2 years...
  18. Sometimes you have to overpay here and underpay there. You have a team salary to start with. Get the players you want with the salary you structured and all is well. I'd rather have a Soriano, then not have him...In this market you are going to overpay for everyone. Obviously baseball owners are making a crap-load of money and the Cubs are one of those teams.

  20. I'm not worried about money or years. Just get it done. Easy for you to say, it's not your money..:P Well in a round about way it is. Having spent heavily on the Cubs for my 38 years of service, I deserve a championship, no matter what the cost.
  21. I read someplace that his defense was terrible...
  22. I'm not worried about money or years. Just get it done.
  23. Let me guess. Barry Rozner wrote the Herald article? No. It was Mike Imrem.
  24. I'm just amazed by the bad rap the Chicago Media has on Ram. I was listening to AM 1000 last night and they were ripping him. Today the Daily Herald is ripping ram saying the Cubs needed to change the culture of the clubhouse like the W.Sox did in 2005 with ridding themselves of Lee and Ordonez? Huh? Is Ram a bad clubhouse guy? I'm just shocked how stupid the media in chicago - across the board - actually is?
