    I'm going out on a bigger limb and say the Cubs were in the top 4 for bidding. So as usual, we will have bid just enough to lose but say we tried? Did you expect anything more? When was the last time we roped in a top tier FA that wasn't our own?

    Even if he doesn't suffer as much as Nomar, the notion that the broken bones wouldn't affect Lee was already proven incorrect when he tried to come back this year. It had a much greater effect on his 2006 than many people were willing to assume, both in terms of time missed and how productive he'd be upon return. Nomar was only 28 when he returned, and seemingly still had some upside. Lee is already 31. Anyway, I just think it's important to remember, when discussing Ramirez, that we can't just assume he's nothing more than the 2nd best hitter on the Cubs. He could easily be the best hitter on the team, as he has for 2 of the past 3 years. We can't dismiss Ramirez leaving by saying Lee was the true face of the franchise or franchise player. Lee isn't Pujols. He hung tough with Albert for one season, but he's not the rock solid stud anchoring the lineup that the Cubs need, this is why it's all the more important to have multiple very good hitters. And that means keeping Ramirez, getting Lee healthy and acquiring new guys. You can't just replace Ramirez with a new guy and count on enough improvement to make this team better. Not that I'm saying anything new or anything. No your not, but it's a nice reminder and well said.

    The following is totally warranted: :roll: This whole thing wreaks of smear job. It's like they unleashed a horde of critical articles to gauge public opinion. By "they" I assume you mean Hendry and the Cubs. I agree that the criticism is over the top, but how exactly does JH control the media such that they smear players on his orders? That's a pretty ridiculous notion. I thought he meant the media? Saying it's the Cubs smear job is far fetched.

His defense has improved every year he's been here. If I'm RAM and I'm hearing all this media bias I wouldn't come back. The sad part about this is a lot of fans are starting to listen to these a@#@#$#s and believing it.

    Is WGN saying the same thing? ESPN? If not, saying something could happen 4-5 days from now is really saying nothing. And the Score is already famous for breaking stories that go nowhere. I'm starting to wonder if the Score update from yesterday was BS. I believe all they are doing is taking Miles article on Ramirez from yesterday and re-stating his proposed figures as fact. I don't think it's so far fetched?

    It does sound sort of like some of Wood and Prior's injuries over the years. It should be healing, but it's not. My best goes out to Liriano-I think one thing we forget about these guys is how frustrated some of them must be to get that taste of greatness, and then to have your body absolutely fail on you like these three great young pitchers (along with many others) have happened to them so far. It does tell you to enjoy the great times when they are there, because one will never know when they will be over. Joking aside it really is a shame. It just shows you how fragile these guys are. If he does get TJ he's young enough to come back from it.
