  1. 100 % right. Good job Ryno!
  2. Actually, I think you could get something decent for Dempster if packaged right...and the Cubs would probably have to eat some of the money. Bottom line, you can't get rid of both Howry and Eyre and if you have to pick between the two I don't know why anyone wouldn't keep Howry. He's held up under the extra work and has shown he can usually slide right into the closer's spot when needed. Guys like Eyre and Novoa have deceptively decent numbers that I think could net some good returns. Trade Eyre off on his own and package Demp and Novoa together, insert Wood, Marmol and Mateo and move it on up! Sounds good to me!
  3. You arean't going to get any takers for Dempster. Howry and Eyre would be the ones you'd get the most for. Also if Rusch retires Wood would nicely slot in there with Rusch salary. It's almost a wash...
  4. I'm glad I'm not the only Wood fan. I man-love the guy. You can say all you want but the man gives you everything he has everytime he's on the mound. And he's one of the rare pitchers in the league that when he's on he's worth the 100 bucks to see him pitch. I hope he's a Cub next year. It's nice to hear a ML baseball player have such loyality to a City and their fans... Honesty and sincerity at it's finest. Bring'em back!
  5. why is hill still in there?
  6. It's good to see him battle with less then his good stuff yet still effective.
  7. Len and Bob are saying that Prior maybe ready for ST in 2007. Maybe?
  8. I'm not so sure about that. I don't think Juan really wants to stay. Espically since Baker is gone. That may prompt Hendry to overbid though and that worries me. C'mon! When was the last time the Cubs out-bidded anyone! Neifi, Rusch, Jones, Howry, Eyre, Dempster...the list is long and lamentable. Outbid means other teams also made a bid. No, it means our bids were so far over the top no one even tried. All of those guys would have had jobs in the bigs. Someone would have paid them. Wait a sec! Howry and Erye in hindsight weren't bad deals at all. Farnsworth got 3/17 and Looper got 13.5 million! The Cubs actually did pretty well by signing them early... And Jones actually performed pretty well for what he is getting. So you have to shorten that list to Neifi, Rusch, and Dempster. Even though with his performance last year someone would have probably gave Dempster more. Neifi and Rusch are the only 2 really stupid "pre-bid/overbid" players JH screwed himself on. The list was players the Cubs outbid somebody for, why would you have to shorten it because guys were actually decent? I'm not sure about that. All I'm saying is the Howry, Eyre, and Dempster could've of gotten better deals...

And I would dare to say that Dempster on the open market could've got more money also. So it's down to Neifi and Rusch. Both were terrible deals.

  11. Why does everyone think Crawford would make a difference on the Cubs? This year he is having a career year, and he wouldn't even be an improvement over the Cubs current OF's. Crawford .303 BA/.345 OBP /835 OPS Jones .287 BA/ .335 OBP/ .839 OPS Murton .298 BA/ .365 OBP/ .811 OPS It seems like the Cubs already have 2 similar players in the OF. It's an improvment if you add one more. Espically if he replaces Pierre.

  15. I couldn't agree with you more. He was the only, and I mean only, reason to watch this team for quite a while. I think people tend to forget how fun it was to watch him play in his prime. It's a shame people still have negative feelings for him.
  16. Hell, he's not a 1st baseman either, but that didn't stop the Dodgers. I wouldn't rule it out. Hendry does love the guy...
  17. Very true. Don't blame the offense. Can you imagine where this team would be without the offense? The pitching just flat out stunk this year, and that's the reason they missed the playoffs.
  18. Uh, no. Your feeling may be the dinner you had last night ;) Ummm...Sure dude. That might be it.
  19. Anyone else feel that if we don't sign RAM, Hendry will go after Normar to play 3rd? I just have that feeling...
  20. Ouch! http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/rozner.asp?id=231905 The Cubs haven't been in a playoff race since '04. In September '04 while the rest of the team was collapsing Ramirez hit .326/.423/.589 I'n '03, Ramirez was having a very middling season unstil August and September came around with him on a playoff chasing team going down the stretch where he put up lines of .272/.342/.544 and .270/.324/.510(both out performing his season line) There's also the 250 /365/ .591 he put up in the playoffs. But clearly Rozner hasn't put any thought into his article so more simply said. To compare him to Sammy is just flat out wrong. Get a clue Rozner...
  21. Barry Rozner won't shed a tear if Ram leaves: Ouch! http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/rozner.asp?id=231905
  22. I see Barry Rozner is jumping on the Girardi and Kranitz bandwagon: http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/rozner.asp?id=231905
  23. I was thinking the same thing this morning.
  24. Business model of the Chicago Cubs. At least they are happy either way. Not a bad way to do things if you can...
